Hey people, I recently purchased Adventurer's Armory 2 and like many others I fell in love with the poppet.
I've got an Investigator (Psychic Detective) who's about to hit level 7 and Craft Poppet is calling out to me. The only problem is that I have no idea what I would actually use one (or a dozen) for.
So that's my problem. What do you actually use a weak, dumb, but oh so cute little poppet for?

Poppets are cheap constructs made for simple tasks for low level adventures. They can be made at level 1, the whole point of them really is just to do little things like carry gear, help with checking out corners/traps etc...
Past level 5, their utility isn't too great, even if you modify the poppet, let say the small poppet you would only be able to add one more hit dice.
Craft poppet does qualify for the craft construct feat, so it's potentially what you are going to go for, grab craft construct and make better constructs.
The other option if you really want to stick with the little guy is to make a poppet a familiar, familiar poppet scales up with their master but you can't modify like normal poppets but they gain special abilities as they level up.

You should definitely not take craft poppet since you qualify for craft construct and construct lets you make poppets but the reverse isn't true.
By level 7 poppets aren't good for much other than finding traps and perhaps hauling stuff. At 160 gp for a basic poppet they can be treated pretty much as consumables.

Wouldn't it be better to take Craft Poppet and Craft Construct rather than Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wondrous Item, and then Craft Construct? Investigators are pretty feat starved, so saving a feat could be a big deal.

What's nice is craft poppets possible/takable at 1st and craft construct can then be taken at 5th. You go tradition craft arms/armor and wondrous item you have to wait till 7th.
You even have room to make that poppet a familiar if you want, though familiar is hard on a Psychic Detective. Now if it was a Bonded Investigator...
