The Broodmaster Challange, Can it work?

Advice

So, I'm compleately in love with the idea of the Broodmaster, Having 2 little minions with me, Twins, Who help out my summoner and the party. But.. Can it be done? It dosent have to be OP, Just passable and working. I had one idea of making one Eidolon a melee fighter and the other an archer, But is there mayhaps better ways to do it..?

Yes, it can be done. Unfortunately your eidolons will have a lack of hit points and evolutions. This means they're far less effective in combat and will die much faster. They also can't be as easily buffed by wearing magic items.

Honestly, if your idea of a summoner is to conjure up lots and lots of small, disposable minions, you're better off just using your SLA and picking creatures from the Summon Monster list. They'll be about as effective, if not more so, than the Broodmaster eidolons.

I had an idea for a Broodmaster once that involved wands. Someone in your party needs Craft Wand (preferably a full caster).
You get them to make wands for you. Then you just pump up your eidolons' Use Magic Device as high as possible and hope they beat the DC 20 wand check more often than not.

Aside from buff and healing spells, spells without saves and those that target touch AC such as Scorching Ray make good wands.
Spells like grease or web that affect terrain might be good too.

I've successfully made one... but as a villain. He was much higher level, and created marionette caricatures of the party.

The idea was someone who had childhood friends with a set of twins, They where always together, Causing trouble and having fun, Untill one day when something hapend, Something bad, And in their time of need, He abandoned the twins and ran like the coward he is, The twins got killed and he went into a depression, And as he become a summoner, He made his two eidolons look like the twins he used to be friends with, Mayhaps in part thinking he can in part redeem himself through the eidolons..

So no horde of disposable minions, Just two, Who looks like his long dead friends. And while he is still a coward, They fight to protect him, And he tries to help them a bit.

You presumably want there to be some synergy between them. For most versions of 1 melee + 1 ranged that's kind of hard to manage. The exception is with teamwork feats' weird cousins, betrayal feats. Friendly fire would fit. Would those twins be reckless enough to work together in that crazy way?

Hmm... Would it work to make two melee Eidolons for a Broodmaster? The twins where very much about helping and protecting eachother and their friend, Who abandoned them. But when it hapend they where all quite young and where fighting with sticks and thrown rocks for the most part.. Hmm.. Maybe.. Maybe I could give the two Eidolons both a melee weapon and a ranged weapon.. But that might be too feat heavy so maybe not.. Hmm..

I havent though too deep into it, I just like the idea of the twins who are now the eidolons in a warped way of the summoner trying to redeem himself from his cowardice.. I do want to make it work and not be a burden to the party but I'm unsure how..

I would like to make the two eidolons melee fighters, Who fight to protect their summoner.. But they are also going to look like half elves, So no 6 arms with claws or such, i'd have to teach them to use melee weapons, Maybe through a weapon proficiency feat..

Let's imagine these two when your summoner reaches 6th level. They'll both be size small (half-elf children maybe) with +5 BAB, +4 base Fort and Will & +1 base Reflex, darkvision 60', evasion, +1 to one ability score and devotion. They'll split between them 5d10 HD, 20 skill points, 3 feats, +4 armor or natural armor, +2 in str/dex bonus and 9 evolution points (more if you spend feats on extra evolution). Their stats before applying these bonuses would be Str 12, Dex 14, Con 11, Int 7, Wis 10, Cha 11. Maybe Str 14 after.

They'll lack feats (they won't really have enough to do teamwork feats), won't do a great deal of damage and will bite the dust easily.

Scanning the rules I don't think they could be effective given your concept until ~9th level. They could be medium size and have 2 feats each then.

I'm starting to give up on my idea.. I love the idea of the Broodmaster.. And i like my silly idea.. But it just dosent sound like it will be able toh old up with the rest of the party and I dont want to be a burden..
