What do we do when a new book comes out and we use it. Until Additional resources?

There was a Lot of Talk about "The Healer's Handbook" and a very cool Sarenrae religious trait- Envoy of healing (when using:channeling heal,Lay on Hands" re-roll 1's, If a 1 again must take it).
I play lots of Clerics of Sarenrae.

I ordered the book and it arrived "During a Online Game Con." That day, I built and Played a new PC's with that Trait.
Additional resources came out months later, and removed from PFS.
(I spent $15.00 to use a trait, and Can't use it)

Now what do I do with the new PC? I built a Paladin and dipped 1 level Cleric at 3rd. I went Sarenrae just for the Trait. ( Travel Domain is best for tanks ) I would have chosen another Diety.

When my error was pointed out. " There are no rules saying you Can use the trait in PFS".
Do we NOT buy new books until the PFS group gives it's "stamp of approval"? It's from Piazo. Not a 3rd party book.

I purchased the Advanced Race Guide to get a Aasimar but the rule changed. Need Boon (25 convention games no boons won). Wand of Abundant Ammo, Nerf. (Bought a book for a cool spell) "If the Wand is full charged may sell back for 2PP, if used 1PP." Now this.
I am sure others are in the same Spot. What do we do.

Well, things are not available to be bought until additional resources came out. So your character with that trait wasn't legal anyway. So your local venture agent will likely just swap the trait have you swap it.

You can't ever use something until it's allowed by Additional Resources.

Not everything Paizo makes is suitable for PFS, it's not the only thing they write for.

Liberty's Edge

It's not just a Trait swap. It would be a Paladin who has to change religions. Total rebuild.
Yes, Piazo makes products. Now Know to wait before buying new books.

I check the season PFS guide. Was unaware of Additional Resources. I tend to stick to core. But will double check everything.

Talk to your venture officer how to fix the mistake. If it's an honest mistake then it shouldn't be a problem to make it better.

But yeah, the slowness of Additional Resources irritates me too. To protect myself against disappointment I wait until a book is in AR (and usually Archives of Nethys) before deciding on purchase. That way I know exactly which books are worth buying for me.

This being said, there are a lot of nice stuff in the Healer's Handbook.

I've got three or four books on my wish list/shopping cart just chilling there until the AR is approved for them (or not).

I'm horrible, I get everything and then hope the cool stuff I want gets approved.

I buy things based on what I will enjoy reading and using in non-PFS games. I guess I'm just not yet serious enough about PFS to buy things just to open a character option there.

That reminds me: I don't remember if I ever actually bought the Healer's Handbook. I want some of the new hexes for my buff/heal focused witch. I haven't played that PC in a few months, and I don't think I'll be grabbing those hexes for another 2 or 3 levels, so there's no rush to buy the book. I just know I looked at it at my local gaming store and decided I definitely want it.

But yes, as others have said, if you only play PFS, then it's worth waiting for a book to hit the AR page before you buy it.
