Orik Fistbreaker |
Yes, Orik had the Aid HP still on board, and its part of what helped him survive, thanks!
Grudgingly, Orik hands the fine adamantium blade back to the cleric Oswin. "Took mae a wee bit t'git warm'd oop, but it turn'd oot alright in t'en'. Thank'ee fer t'use o' yer fine blade, father. It makes mae dwarf blood prood tae use it."
Once the healing and buffing is done, and the fallen are revived, Orik leads the group, shield up, back into the complex throught the sewer grate, following Eye.
I am at 25/49 hp, if some will use my wand or do more healing, please.
Rikas Horgold |
If my mental calculations are correct, Rikas is at 9 HP after the Infernal Healing, CLW, and above channel.
With time of the essence with that zill thingy, Rikas requests only a single CLW charge from his wand before urging the party to return to battle. The battered tiefling is either suicidal, mad, or just fancies himself a big damn hero (or just fancies himself).
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

When Hedra open her eyes, she thanks Aroden for living another day. Without His help, she will have died.
Thanks Gamin for watching me while I was unconscious.
It was my Honor Hedra ! said Gamin
Hedra added to Oswin and Orik Thanks to you both for keeping us alive and killing these foul creatures. Aroden will have been proud to still count you as a follower Oswin. You have the heart of a Hero of Legend.
When Eye came back she thank him.
Thanks Eye. You have done great.
Still bloodied, Hedra said to her comrades.
It's risky, but I can teleport me and three others in the previous room. Or we can go on foot. Your choice as I don't have had time to study the room as well as I would have like.
She touch Rikas for Aroden's Blessing.
May Aroden give you a spark of His divine essence Rikas she prayed
Cure Moderate: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (4, 4) + 9 = 17
She does it on each of her comrades who don't already have received Aroden's blessing.
Cure Moderate (Orik): 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2) + 9 = 14
Cure Moderate (Ardisen): 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 8) + 9 = 25
If someone could heal me while I do it for the other it will be nice of you.
Oswin Durnhelm |
Thanks GM. I realize you could have hardballed and handed out a TPK. A hard-fought semi-victory seems better, if we can manage it.
We have another 3 or 4 baddies from before. That Xill hits hard. I think that if we cam dim door in pre buffed though we can wreck his day. My plan is to go Divine Favor, Righteous Might, and maybe Holy Lance for the extra damage. The first spell lasts 10 rounds, the next nine, so I'd have nine rounds to work with. Can Hedra do another Blessing of Fervor? If not, I'll cast that over Holy Lance right before the "teleport"
Oswim trades a Searing Light into a healing spell on Hedra.
CSW: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6, 7) + 9 = 25
He then heals himself with his wand and offers the same service to his friends. He is all out of channels.

After the healing, Orik is ready for action. "I beleive mae wee axe is still oon t'groond in there. I mae need tae borry yer fine blade again, laddie, oop oontil wae 'ave dealt with yoon beastie."
Oswin Durhelm |
"Fair enough Orik. I can align my secondary balde to the forces of good."
Oswin will cast align weapon on his cold iron longsword, making it good aligned for nine minutes. Orik can borrow the other blade for awhile longer.
So I want to lay down buffs. I don't mind if I move then cast each round, since it'll still burn actions. Or I can buff then teleport. I want to get in the room with as much time left on the buffs though. So I vote to teleport if it can be done safely. Like I said, I wi cast divine favor for extra attack and damage, and Righteous Might. Large size, -2 Dex, -1 size AC, but +2 natural armor. DR 5/evil, but that won't help here? Don't know if evil creature's natural attacks count as evil.
Oswin calls on Iomedae's divine favor, then fuels his aggression by beseeching his god for an infusion of righteous might.
"Hedra, bring us back to the room swifly! We must save the Riftwarden!"

@Oswin If you are enlarged, I can take only you and one other as you count for two.
With teleport I have 24% to not be "on target"
Oswin Durhelm |
Ok, then I'll save Righteous Might and go Blessing of Fervor. That way you can get everyone. With Ardisen gone, we are only 4. What happens if you "miss" Hedra? Do we end up in a wall, etc.?

Hedra Dreamcaster |
Hedra explained to her comrades the risk of teleporting in a place she does'nt know well
off target : 76-88; similar area 89-94; Mishap 95-100
Off Target: You appear safely a random distance away from the destination in a random direction. Distance off target is d% of the distance that was to be traveled. The direction off target is determined randomly.
Similar Area: You wind up in an area that's visually or thematically similar to the target area. Generally, you appear in the closest similar place within range. If no such area exists within the spell's range, the spell simply fails instead.
Mishap: You and anyone else teleporting with you have gotten “scrambled.” You each take 1d10 points of damage, and you reroll on the chart to see where you wind up. For these rerolls, roll 1d20+80. Each time “Mishap” comes up, the characters take more damage and must reroll.
Hedra Dreamcaster |
Hedra used one charge of her wand to cast bless on the party then make a prayer to Aroden to transport them right on the right path.
Aroden, hear my prayer. Make Time and Space disappeared. Make us appeared on the right Time and Place.
She touched her three comrades and cast Teleport
On Target !: 1d100 ⇒ 5
Aroden heard Hedra's prayer and teleport them exactly where Hedra want.

The Pathfinders all disappear from the dusty sewers and reappear instantly in front of the Xill, who was torturing Jahani! Oswin and Rikas react instantly, whereas the other ones are slower to react than their opponent. Jahani is at the gates of death, barely standing the pain and suffering the outsider is dealing her.
Save Jahani! - round 1
1. Rikas, Oswin
2. Xill
3. Orik, Hedra

Oswin grips his sword in both hands and waits to see if Rikas will try to flank. After Rikas acts, Oswin lays into the Xill, swinging 3 powerful slashes at it!

A dance of a thousand blades starts around the Xill, who's too absorbed by his sadistic occupation to notice Oswin and Rikas piercing and slashing at him, leaving him only moments to live before it finds death, and oblivion.
End combat. Nicely done!
Jahani is unconscious, and severely wounded. You also notice that her tongue has been removed, rendering her unable to speak or cast spells.

Orik shrugs seeing his attack wasn't necessary against the xill. He finds his dropped war-axe and hefts it back, returning the enchanted blade to Oswin once again.
"Tha' seems tae bae oon oof t'Riftw'rdens, eh? Tae bad she can't tell oos where t' others are baeing kep'. Reckon wae joost poke aroun' a wee bit then?"
Oswin Durnhelm |
"Let's hurry then. The spells I cast won't last much longer. Jahani, can you walk? Please stay close behind us if you can. Orik, please keep my second blade. The magic a lining it against evil will last for several more minutes. Eye, lead the way."
Oswin hands Orik the backup weapon, then makes ready to follow Eye at the double.
OK, so I cast Blessing of Fervor, then we teleported in. One round of fighting, one for the heal check, one more for the cure spell. A fifth for this conversation. Not sure if that first round, the one in which I cast, counts against the duration. We have probably 4 more rounds of it? Maybe we took longer healing Jahani. What do you say GM? If we have any time left on that, I'll take the extra speed for now. If not, I'll renew bless by using my wand.

Oswin Durnhelm |
If Jahani does not follow the group, Oswin will try to reassure her.
He walks over, and puts a hand on her shoulder:
"We are agents of the Pathfinder Society. Maroc sent us, and we know him by his true name if that will convince you of our intentions. We are here yo rescue you and your fellow Riftwardens. All capable people are needed in the fight against the Worldwound demons. Please, help us quickly free your compatriots."

Hedra Dreamcaster |
Yes, we are Pathfinders. Thanks to Eye, I know, two other Riftwardens are still alive but held in another room. If you can walk or help us in any way, please do it.
added Hedra to Oswin's words.
auto-assist in diplomacy
GM Lithrac |
Using Diplomacy takes 1 minute at least, so we'll say Ardisen remains with her, does the Diplomacy attempt (he's the most apt at it anyway), then eventually escapes with her throughout the sewers.
Ardisen takes some time to soothe the obviously frightened Riftwarden, who's been left beaten, broken and scarred by the Blackfire adepts and their minions.
Hastened by godly magic, the rest of the party heads south, then west. They easily dispatch the guard in the stairs room, and find out there is another room where the daemon stench is very present - it must have been the lair of some of them.
You have about two rounds left on the spell, so do you want to head upstairs, or look for the cell where the Eye told you there was a Riftwarden?
Oswin Durnhelm |
I'd say let's look for the nearest Riftwarden. If there's one on this floor, let's do that before going upstairs.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Rikas Horgold |
I'm all for checking the cells. Don't wanna go upstairs till we have to.
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Lithrac |
Alright, that will end the spells with a duration in rounds though - just wanted a confirmation before proceeding.
A single long, lonely stair reaches up from this room to the next floor. Near the center of the room stands a broad wooden table surrounded by several chairs. A wooden bucket, a set of brushes, and a canvas kit of some kind rest next to an iron ring affixed to the wall and threaded with a set of manacles. Two passageways lead away from this room, both lined with small wooden doors on either side. The Eye leads the party through the dark hall, finally reaching an occupied cell where a Chelish man in a dire state lies. His hair is disheveled, and just like Jahani, his tongue has been cut out. Barely conscious, he calls out to you, seeing in you potential saviors.
Oswin Durnhelm |
Oswin moves over to the man and fress him, smashing through the manacles with his skymetal sword.
He offers him s drink from his waterskin.
"Don't try to speak, we're agents of the Pathfinder Society, sent to free you from this wretched place. Follow us if you like, or escape through the sewers. Jahani has fled with another of our team, if you'd like to catch them up. We're off to help your friend upstairs."
"Oh, one thing. We heard 4 of you were sent. Is this true?"
Waits for a nod.
"Do you know where the 4th person is? Our scout has only located 3 prisoners..."
Hedra Dreamcaster |
Hedra try to heal the Riftwarden, first with first aid, then with magic.
Heal: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
She then call for Aroden's blessing to cure the man from his wounds.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 3) + 9 = 20
Oswin Durnhelm |
Thanks for clarifying Lithrac!
Oswin thanks the man for his aid.
"It might be best if you slipped out now, sir. But if you want to stick with us, please give us room to operate. It seems we must go up, friends. I'll lead the way when you're ready."
Oswin casts bless from his wand, then heads over to the stairs. He'll walk up once it's obvious the others are coming too.
GM Lithrac |
I'm going to speed things up a bit, if you're okay with it.
As the tongue-less Riftwarden joins Ardisen and Jahani in the dry sewers, the Pathfinders venture upstairs. You reach a lavishly-furnished trade house that has been deserted. All the rooms around the large meeting hall are empty, save for one that has been locked. Behind it, noises of rushed removals can be heard. Thanks to Rikas's savvy with locks, the door doesn't resist you for long, and you enter a very messy office filled with papers and logs of all sorts, which a handful of unarmed clerks are currently in the process of burning. Orik easily scares them into submission, halting their business there and then. Among the papers they were burning were business ledgers and papers that a special someone might be interested in.
In one of the other trade offices, you find a third Riftwarden all tied up, a Garundi woman named Imaga. Both of her hands have been broken, leaving her unable to cast any spells with somatic components. She doesn't know where the other Riftwardens are, but she fears the worst. When you tell her of the two freed Riftwardens below, she is elated and asks to follow them in the passage.
You finally reach the courtyard, where a large squad of guards await you. As they are about to attack, the two remaning daemons appear out of nowhere and howl in delight as their preys have come to them. Their appearance causes chaos among the ranks of the guards, who start running away from both them and you!

Let me clarify: these are private militia kind of guards, not city guards.
Oswin charges and lands a lucky blow on one of the daemons! No AoO since they're considered flat-footed.
Rikas moves forward and throws a knife, but it only manages to pierce the air. Besides, you can only charge if you end your movement in melee range and use a melee attack.
