Oswin Durnhelm |
Oswin's eyes flash in anger. He offers a short prayer and calls for Iomedae's favor and he then heads down the eastern hall as quickly as he can.
Cast divine favor, move towards east 20'.

Be Aroden your guide and protector Mighty Orik prayed Hedra casting Aid on Orik
Temporary HP on Orik: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
before moving to follow Oswin.
@Orik: you have +11 temporary HP and a +1 moral bonus on attack rolls and against fear effect
Gamin said, hearing the cry Hedra ! We need to help this poor man, or woman ! Please, Hurry ! I will guide you.
Each round, Gamin will cast Guidance on Hedra
Orik Fistbreaker |
Thanks for the Aid effect. How long does the spell last?
Keeping an eye on his charges, Orik readies his shield and axe, shouldering his way to the front of the group, trailing only Oswin searching for the sounds of torture.
"Jus' point mae in t'right direction. Wae'll save them Riftward'ns."
Ardisen Greymore |
As everyone moves to stomp forward, Ardisen puts himself in front of them and throws out his arms, whispering quickly.
"Don't let your emotions get the better of you. When they hear us coming they could raise the alarm, or kill whoever that is. We have a scout in our number, let him do his thing so we know what we're walking into."

GM Lithrac |
Hedra's hypothesis proves right as you enter the room at the end of the hall. The bright lighting in this wide chamber highlights the gruesome experiments and tortures performed within. Several broad tables have manacles affixed to either end to restrain struggling subjects, and dark, sticky residue cakes a pair of broad stone basins. Along the north wall stand four stone statues of ghastly figures whose expressions suggest they delight in what they see. Strangely enough, there is no one in sight, the only slightly moving thing is the burning flame of an eerie candle resting on one of the tables.
At this stage, I'll ask everyone to take actions just like in a combat, one "round" after another. Everyone may proceed with their first action.
GM Lithrac |
Alright, let's switch to initiative.
Initiative(Hedra): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Initiative(Oswin): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Initiative(Rikas): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Initiative(Ardisen): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Initiative(Orik): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Initiative(S): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Initiative(X): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Hedra casts a spell, revealing whatever is invisible to her eyes.

1. Rikas, Orik, Ardisen
2. ???
3. Oswin, Hedra
Ardisen Greymore |
Ardisen takes out the wand of Shield from his belt and casts the spell on Oswin.
"What do you see Hedra?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Hedra Dreamcaster |
@Ardisen : you can't cast shield on another person than you because shield is a personal spell
A woman in the back of the room, invisible with an insectoid creature and a blooded Jahani at her feet
Ardisen Greymore |
If that's the case I'll use it on myself. I picked it up for Oswin.
Ardisen curses in Infernal, annoyed that he doesn't have anymore dispelling magic available.
"Tell me someone can get rid of this invisibility effect?"
-Posted with Wayfinder
Oswin Durnhelm |
"Yes, I can manage it when I get the chance."
I will cast Invisibility Purge on my turn. And sorry about the wand. I didn't realize sheild was a personal spell. So my current AC is 25, or 24 flat footed.

Ardisen Greymore |
Not to worry. It's not a spell I have so I'll make use of it. Should have checked first. Waiting on Orik and Rikas now.

Orik Fistbreaker |
Sorry for delaying you. Please bot me if I am dragging dwon the game.
Round 1
Orik is a bit frustrated by his ability to not see an enemy after waiting so long for some action. He looks around, but in the end decides to keep his shield up and be ready to ward off any blows from invisible enemies.
Will take Total Defense this round, until we can see something. Make AC 27/16/21
Orik Fistbreaker |
Total Defense is a dodge bonus, so I believe does not apply to Flat-footed AC. May be wrong on that.
That seems to be correct per Hero Lab, but Orik's FF is 21 anyway. Nice rules catch however. Note that because Orik has Two Weapon Defense feat, he gains an additional shield bonus when taking Total Defense, so it is +5 not the standard +4.
GM Lithrac |
Ah yes, sorry. I'll ask someone to post an action for you next time the situation arises. Thanks for reminding me.
Everyone lies in waiting for something to happen, most adopting defensive measures.
Suddenly, 1d3 ⇒ 3 emaciated, hairless canines with a strange air of menace and cruelty about them materialize into the room, following a shorter summoning incantation. All three immediately let out a frightening bay. Everyone please make three DC 12 Will saves. If you fail any of them, you are panicked for 2d4 rounds (I'll let those concerned roll for themselves).

Oswin Durnhelm |
Please move me 3 squares to the east. I would want to make sure I was in the room. Before or after casting doesnt matter too much. At my level, it's a 45' radius sphere eliminating all forms of invis. Also, just 7 rounds of divine favor left.

As Oswin steps forward into the room, the veil of lies and shadows disappears, revealing three creatures. The first two are definitely human: both are women, and one of them corresponds to the description Eando Kline made of Jahani. She's kneeling, bearing many severe wounds and has her tongue cut out, rendering her unable to speak. The second is a Garundi woman who looks at you defiantly, weaving her fingers around the thin veil between the outer planes and here. In front of her stands a stalwart, four-armed bodyguard that looks like a humanoid insect. Another Knowledge (planes) to idenfity, DC 16 as Hedra guessed.

Slight retcon, then:
Crippled by Hedra's spell, Sophini taunts you: "You'll never get the Riftwardens alive. May you burn in the Nine Hells." As Jahani lets out a long, desperate moan, the Blackfire Adept grabs the Riftwarden's hair and both figures disappear instantly.
1) No DR.
2) They can implant eggs in a helpless creature that'll hatch 24 hours later and consume the host from withing. Their bite attack paralyses their enemy.
3) They are very well-trained at using many weapons simultaneously (no DW penalties) and can easily travel through planes.
4) No elemental resistances.
As for the other creatures, they are a variety of daemons. They have DR 10/good or silver and are immune to acid, death effects, disease, mind-affecting effects, paralysis, poison, polymorph effects, sleep effects.
