Dotting aboard!

I'm choosing between the Nemesis, or Overachiever story feats to replace Rival with. I'd prefer Nemesis because it's closer to Rival, but I figured I'd run it by you again just in case.

I'm looking at different build combinations. Wizard is definitely staying, and upon further examination I've realized that gestalting Wizard with a martial class completely eliminates the need to PrC into Eldritch Knight; the base gestalt is better to begin with. Fighter could be swapped out for Swashbuckler (though that build would mostly accomplish the same thing) or the Cavalier-into-Battle Herald monstrosity that I mentioned previously.
If I went Cavalier/Battle Herald, I'd be able to pump the party through the roof with teamwork feats. Thematically, it would be really cool if our ship's flag could count as the banner for the Cavalier's ability. What does everybody else think of that?
Laknir Kii |
That does sound pretty cool. Course, I can't speak for the GM.
Edit: As for the class, Im not sure. I'd suggest Daring Champion Cavalier, but Im a bit biased. And Amby would come out really similarly to Laknir.

If I go Cavalier, I was thinking Strategist/Standard Bearer with a single level of Evangelist Cleric for entry into Battle Herald. By level 6, I'll be doling out
- a +3 morale bonus on saving throws against fear [banner]
- a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls made as part of a charge [banner]
- grant party one teamwork feat for up to 5 rounds twice per day [tactician]
- grant party one teamwork feat for up to 12 mins (120 rounds) twice per day [drill instructor]
- a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls [inspire courage]
- issue a miscellaneous bonus [inspiring command]
On top of being a wizard focusing on summoning, battlefield control, and maybe some buffs if needed.
Daring Cavalier would be great on top of that, but Daring Cavalier and Strategist both replace the expert trainer ability.
Well that's a fun little bug. I'll need to make sure to report the bullet point problem.

Sounds pretty nifty. Remember that the morale bonuses from banner and inspire won't stack for the fear and saving throw bonus though. If I keep leveling the way I originally intended, Ill be adding another teamwork feat on top of the other two with Daring Champion as well. But Im currently wieghing the benefits of DC Cavalier over the Noble Fencer swashbuckler. Noble fencer will make Laknir a real good face if we end up not getting one. But without cavalier his saves, and damage will suffer. Ill probably only use Noble Fencer if we dont get a diplomacy guy/gal.

Thanks for pointing that out. I would go Swashbuckler or something similar, but with gestalt and the pirate theme, I get the feeling there's going to be plenty of that going around already. And this way, Ambrose can give orders like a military commander. He's built to be a diplomacy character (among other things), despite a lower Charisma score than I would prefer thanks to the racial penalty. There was a trait that switched Diplomacy to Int-based, but I think that's supposed to be a geographically-limited trait.
The GM mentioned that there was a barbarian/sorcerer who was guaranteed a spot. I wouldn't mind it if they dropped their two cents in. We still have five days left, but I'd love to get things finalized sooner.
Laknir Kii |
Yeah, kinda surprised he hasn't jumped in yet.
So, If I go with Noble Fencer (still perfectly in character, imo) and give him one racial trait that I think Ill go with anyway, Laknir will be able to pull anywhere from a +8 +20 diplomacy modifier. Plus extra if the GM chooses to use the Verbal Duels for any reason.
Lieutenant Ambrose Jeggare |
If you want to pull face duty, that leaves Ambrose free to be generally brittle and abrasive. I'd like for him to have moments where he gets to play tempter devil, but I'd be happy to let somebody else be the primary face.
I hadn't seen that Swashbuckler archetype. It mentions verbal dueling; is that from Ultimate Intrigue?

Si. Im a fan because it gives the swashbuckler a real ability to compete with Bards and Paladins as team talky-man. And it replaces charmed life with a weaker, but more reliable will bonus. I guess we can wait to see if one of us needs to pick up the role more anyway.
