Are ninjas penalized in any way, shape, form or fashion by wearing medium armor? I'd like to play one and wear a do-maru but all signs point to it not being able to be made out of mithral.

Scarab Sages

Not directly, as far as I can tell. The penalties to dex and strength based skills, plus having to use feats to recieve training in the armors, seem to be the main penalties. The max dex of heavier armors and reduced speed would also prove very limiting with most of the ninja class features.

You have to be in light or no armor to use the Evasion talent.

Grand Lodge

Huh. That's cool. I think I need to make a homage to one of my first players fighter/ninja characters now.

Mithral kikko armor is the answer.

Has an ACP of 0 so you don't even need proficiency.

It's like a mithral breastplate with the Armor Expert trait, except you don't need the trait.

Kind of tempted to try a paladin/ninja in full plate now.

My Ninja wears Full Plate.

Helps him Disguise as a Samurai ;-)

Never really occured before, but yeah, reducing armor check to zero would effectively reduce the proficency penalty to zero making armor training feats unimportant.

I'm very tempted, but what I really want is to look like these kisho ninja here. It looks like the only way to do that would be to eat the penalties and forget I have evasion (which I know by instinct is a BAD IDEA), right?

Grand Lodge

You don't have to take evasion, and it's not like all kikko have to look the same.

It's actually pretty awesome.

Mine is paladin 8/ninja 2/oracle 1 of Sarenrae. Hospitaler, oath against Fiends; base ninja; life oracle with life link and extra revelation for channel. 2 separate channel pools, a ki pool, and a lay on hands pool all based on Charisma. I have effectivity 30+ lay on hands per day or 25 ish Smite evils. You just need a meditation crystal(reusable, takes 1 minute) to convert channels into lay on hands or ki pool and tea of tranferance(consumable,40gp) to convert ki into lay on hands, Smite evil or channel. (Or spells, but I need 3rd level spells first)

Just imagine all those strips are little hexagons instead and you basically have kikko armor.
