Blood of Shadows is theeeeee Beeeest!

Pathfinder Player Companion

Okay, I want to gush a little about Blood of Shadows and how hard it rocks my face. The new racial options for Drow like psychic sensitivity brings the game back to familiar 3.5 territory, then the other new stuff sort of expands it like the new rules and spells and items.

The new Archetypes are boss as hell (there now exists something as insane as a "Stealthadin") and the Gloom Chymyst is about to become my new favored class option.

As a PFS player, it's nice to see new stuff for unchained summoners because, well, it's nice to see summoners get ANYTHING.

Finally there's the new stuff for Fetchlings and Wayangs that make them both creepier and useful.

Obviously I do not yet possess the virgin blood sacrifices needed to get a Drow boon in organized play but could someone please give me a ballpark quote for how much of my soul I must offer up to the Dark Lord John Compton to ensure that Fetchlings are added to PFS race choices next season? 50? 75? Come on, guys, Year of the Shadow maybe please? I can has Shadow Plane Invasion plot-line?

Just kidding, great book everybody!

Hmmm...maybe we could start at 100% and bargain from...

Aw man, people keep proposing soul deals and then canceling at the last minute!

*John does not endorse the sale of souls in exchange for expanded Pathfinder Society options.*

John, my image of your day to day job description just shifted all the way into the weird!

Well, yeah. Pathfinder does a lot to make bargaining with one's soul look like a REALLY bad idea.

Maybe you could make a propagan– I mean, PERTINENT scenario in PFS where someone sells their soul and gets tons of nice things and is super happy and the PCs are jealous or something. Gotta raise the PR, Mr. Dark Lord!

I just received my copy in the mail.

My initial opinion is exactly the same! Could become my favourite Player Companion ever.

In the Ultimate Intrigue product discussion I lamented that Slayer are being omitted from all the new Rogue talents. I day later I get Blood of Shadows and poof - I need to eat all of those bitter bitter words. That one sentence to allow Slayers access to all the new Rogue talents blew me away. AND the talents are some of the best / most evocative I've seen in a while.

Kudos authors, Kudos.

Once I've digested it fully, hopefully I'll get around to a review.

i love that Blind-Fight got more attention, i can now make a zatoichi

The Beaming magic weapon property is so much fun, IMO. Really brings out the theme "bringing light to the dark places of the world" and it is a FREE action once you have the motes out and going! Searing Light as many times per day as your weapon bonus. Yes thank you!

The only major flaw I find with this book is that it came out too late to be able to feature the Caligni. The Drow content is good, but it's probably what I would swap out (They can have their own book with Duergar and Svirfneblin).

I liked the focus on fetchlings and wayangs, myself. Keep it focused rather than too inclusive. It is only 32 pages, after all.

... Blood of Darkness when?

I got a shadow eidolon option which gives me the warm fuzzies. Now I can make my character that tag teams with his own shadow.
