I don't know whether to hyperventilate in excitement, or freak the F##+ out in excitement.

Is Rick Moranis going to be in it, I know he quit acting years ago.

As of right now, the answer is "No!" Sad. I though that Rick added a lot to the movie.

Rick added everything to the movie. :-)

Hyperventilate while freaking the F*&$ out in excitement! I say go big, Space Balls is worth with.

Then there is the sad fact that John Candy cannot play Barf :(

(Rick is great in the original "I can't breath in this thing!")

I CANNOT WAIT

Liberty's Edge

I can't wait either, but it will be bitter-sweet without Rick Moranis, John Candy, and Joan Rivers.

I don't see the point without Rick Moranis and John Candy.

Did Rick Moranis ever give the reason that he retired?

Liberty's Edge

He didn't retire, but he decided that raising his children after his wife died was more important than acting and leaving then to nannies. He's done voice work, comedy albumns, and convention appearances since then.

Oh thank you thank you thank you!

I would be very resistant to this idea, but A LOT has happened in sci-fi films in the last 20 years that is ripe for satire.

That said, if Rick Moranis isn't going to be in it, I feel very skeptical about the whole thing.

Who knows? Maybe Mel Brooks can rope both Moranis and Gene Wilder into the movie and have a reunion of semi-retired actors.

I didn't know his wife died, that does explains a lot.

As cool as it would be, I really don't see anything that says this is happening.

Liberty's Edge

The posters aren't real, but Mel Brooks is working to get the movie off the ground.

This page seems to point to the Spaceballs sequel being a real thing.

but when will then be now?

If a sequel does get made, I really hope they'll lay off the excessive sex jokes from the original. It had some really strong points, but the constant bombardment of sex-related humor killed it for me.

What were you expecting from a movie called "Spaceballs";)

Finally a Star Wars movie I am excited to see.

If it doesn't have Rick Moranis, I doubt it will be worth it.

Without Rick as Dark Helmet, there is something missing. We can hope that Rick decides to return to the stage, if only to help make this movie happen the right way ::fingers cross::

It is however false that I am my own best friend....

I think Mel Brooks has at least one more amazing movie in him.

The question is will anyone let him let it out.

Agreed.

I just doubt that it will be "Spaceballs."

Yeah, I think the biggest stumbling block will actually be whether he directs or not. He hasn't directed anything since 1995 and he's 90 y/o now, so I'm guessing he doesn't have the energy to direct any more.

If he was the writer/director/producer, I would have faith in him to get the most out of any cast, even if theyire missing iconic people from the last movie.

Conan O'brien or Louis CK would make a really good "Son of Barf" imo, though in very different ways. For some reason, I keep casting that part with redheads in my imagination.

this better be real

The posters were a hoax, but Mel had said on the talk shows that he's trying to put it together.

But there sorta was a sequal. I somehow only just found out that there was a short run animated space balls series and yes, Mel Brooks was in it as Skroob.
