Item crafting cost

Rules Questions

I admit, I fail at calculating created item costs....badly.

I'm interested in the cost of crafting the following item:

Wondrous Item
Slot: uncertain, perhaps unslotted?
Effect: Quickened Summon Eidolon spell
Charges: uncertain, 50 or 2-3/day?

What would the variable costs be?
Would it be worth a disposable 50 charge item, or would a so many per day be better served?
The spell is normally a 1 round cast. Quickening would make it a standard action. Can it be further quickened into a swift action?

You can 'quicken' a 1 round summon spell to a swift action:

FAQ

That said, I have no particular opinion about how to price the item.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

50 charges, spell trigger, unslotted: 750x6x11x2 = 99,000 gp. Slotted would be 49,500 gp.

Command word, slotted: 1,800x6x11 = 118,800. Unslotted would be artefact. 50 charge versions halve the price, so 59,400 slotted, 118,800 unslotted.

These are guideline prices using the formulae, compare to similar items first (I'd suggest figurines of wondrous power) before using them.

Let's see... I checked, and I couldn't find any similar items to compare the cost to (which is ALWAYS the first thing to do when pricing new items), so...

Spell Level: 2
Metamagic Change: +4
Total Spell Level: 6

Summoners can cast Level 6 spells starting at 16th level, so there's that.

For a 50 charge unslotted item, we'd do it as follows:

6 * 16 * 750 * 2 = 144,000 GP

For a 2/day use, I think that's Command Word, so...

6 * 16 * 1800 / [5/2 = 2.5] * 2 = 138,240 GP

So a 2/day is technically cheaper, and you're PROBABLY not going to need to exceed that very often anyway. It basically boils down to whether you think you'll use it more or less than 50 times in the course of the game.

Ah, the extra *2 is from being slotless. If you stick it into a slot, it'll get much more affordable.

Going off the item creation table, it would cost about 86000gp. Twice that for unlimited use. You would probably be better off with a 2/day item, which would cost about 70000gp.

Those numbers don't look too unreasonable, either. By the time you can afford that, you can probably just *cast* Quickened Summon Eidoon. You won't be more than 1 or 2 levels off, anyway, since 70kgp is about 1/5th of a level 16 character's WBL. Even with crafting, you still only get it at level 13 with 1-2 months worth of time spent on just this one item.

EDIT: Oh, and this is slotted. Double the cost if unslotted.

As others are pointing out with their market value estimates, this isn't going to be cheap. Spell x caster level makes things pretty expensive when dealing with metamagic effects, particularly at spell level+4.

Consider having that spell on your spell list and investing in a metamagic quicken rod instead.

Lesser rod of quicken: 35k
Page of spell knowledge (if you don't know the spell): 4k
3x 2nd level Runestone of Power: 24k

Total: 59-63k for 3 swift castings of summon eidolon per day, by the book.

Note: this of course gives you a lot more flexibility than just using a rod and runestone to cast summon eidolon, so if one were to craft an item that ONLY did 3/day swift summon eidolon, it should be discounted from this price by some amount, maybe 20-30%.

That is a good comparison.

How did you figure the cost for the Page of Spell Knowledge?

They are priced pretty explicitly. See here. Summon Eidolon is a second level spell only, so you need a 2nd level Page of Spell Knowledge. Those cost 4000gp.

So far, the Eidolon Rod is priced around 50k. That's level 10 wealth, more like level 13 wealth if it's not your first or only magic item. By then, you're casting 4th or 5th level spells and 2nd level slots are no longer worth buying. So, take out the runestone "component" and let the item consume a 2nd level spell slot (which is fine, because it's already limited to casters), price: 30.000 gp.

Nice! I never knew about these!
