I have a question for you miscreants. What car insurance company do you use? Have you had any issues with them? Would you recommend them?
Edit - If you have been in an accident, how did they treat you and how did they handle the accident?
I have been with Geico for as long as I can remember. I've always experienced excellent customer service with them. Sadly, I no longer get the discount offered to government employees, but I've learned to live with that.
Incidentally, for those unaware, GEICO stands for Government Employees Insurance Company.

Probably not.

I went to Geico a few years back when Travelers was going to jack up my rates about 80% when I moved to greater NYC. Geico was about 60% cheaper than my Travelers renewal. After the wedding I might hop on John's USAA policy though (his dad is a retired Navy captain).
I like John's dad and would like to subscribe to his newsletter!

State Farm here, my whole life I think. (I MAY have had a brief period of insanity when I was newly single again and trying to save $$, but otherwise,...)
I agree though, it DOES all depend upon your agent, not just the company. :)
We have had minimal 'incidents' vehicular wise (Praise Be) but our agent(s) were always helpful and nice.
AND we bundle our cars with house (Now that I am actually buying a house) to save money. We have had more claims on our renters and now Home Insurance than we have our cars, (Thanks again that my wife and I are intelligent drivers!) and again they always have been helpful and nice. They always give me as money as they can. (Or at least as much as they SAY they can) After my deductible, of course. ;P
Only complaint I have about State Farm is that they keep raising the cost of my home owners insurance every year, EVERY year, claiming that it is due to the rising costs of actually replacing the home if needed.
(But,... My home is only worth $X, your only going to GIVE me $X no matter what. So what does it matter if the cost to build the house again from scratch is now $Y ??????) :P

Found Nationwide to be pretty reasonable pricing-wise, quite a bit better than GEICO, Progressive, Allstate and Liberty Mutual. No idea how they handle accidents/car wrecks, which is a trend I fervently hope continues until they pull my drivers license for being too old and crotchety.
Edit: Ragadolf, insurance companies are gonna bone us no matter what. Usually they're gentle about it, sometimes they're not... ;)

Sigh,... You have no idea,...

Has Geico gotten better? My mom worked for them when she was young and she says they have a strict policy of ripping people off. And every time I get a quote from them they are at least twice the cost of progressive.
It usually depends on the state. Which carriers are cheapest varies widely from place to place.

Treppa, while you're recuperating, would you (or anyone else here) be interested in this editor gig?

I'm interested, but my brother from an upstate mother needs it more, methinks.

True story: My half brother (father's side) calls me his "brother from another mother", and it is factually accurate.

I too could call my own half brother that.

Syracuse officially has the worst parking of any place I've ever driven (even New York City). I was supposed to work the booth for the record label at a local music show tonight, and I had to call my boss 10 minutes beforehand and tell him that I literally couldn't get there. Some kind of civic event was going on, and in 40 minutes of searching, I couldn't find a single spot in the entire downtown area. This isn't the first time this has happened. F#!+ this.

Is there any public transportation?
Sure, if you want to pay an arm and a leg for a bus pass, wait 2 hours for a bus, then spend another hour on said bus, change buses twice, and then 45 minutes later, do it all over again. I think the public transit here is worse than the parking. Take, for example, my roommate's 2.5-hour each way bus commute to and from work every day. It's 3 miles away, and he has to change buses to do it. Everything is so spread-out and pedestrian-unfriendly that you pretty much have to have a car in order to go anywhere outside of your own neighborhood.
Back when they put in the two giant 4-lane elevated highways that divide the downtown into neat quarters, just as a big "f+ you" to the city, NYSDOT built one of the highways (NYS 690) right through what used to be the Syracuse train hub. Driving west on 690, just before the junction with I-81, you actually drive through the partially-demolished ruins of the train station.
