Back when I worked as a loader at UPS, all of the junior salary guys (i.e. the guys directly above me on the totem pole) routinely had to work 90-100 hours per week. My supervisor came in one day looking beat all to hell, and when the conversation came around to it, I asked him what kind of money he made. His response: "I think when you boil it all down, I make about four dollars an hour." He wasn't joking.

There are big changes coming to overtime laws around the end of the year to address that situation.

That's right in the tourism brochure for Elysium.

I thought more about making dyson swarm with each collector being an anti-matter producing cyclotron.

IT split neatly and the external incision for the screws is small. Pain is manageable. Just need a hijab.

GOOD MORNING TREEFORTNAM!!!!!

I must say the new schedule keeps me hopping....

Despite the bus company claiming I'd get no work if I didn't commit to a route, they seem to be up for throwing quite a bit at me, lol

That and motoring off to Boston for school

I do need to take some time and spruce up my PbPs

And get some washing done

Well,...
I was SUPPOSED to leave today to meet my family in Florida fr a Labor Day Weekend Vacate.
Yeah, the state that just got hurricane'd. :P

Fortunately (For us, not the poor people who live there, including one of my old college/gaming buddies) the storm passed to the East of where we are going in the panhandle. So we might still get most of our 3 day vacate. :)

I'm still trying to get in touch with my friend who lives in Tampa, make sure he's ok. :(

I lived in Sarasota for a year, supposedly it wasn't able to be flooded. (Like it just did)

Prayers for any and all who live there or have friends /family who do!

I told my parents I want to go to law school yesterday.

For some reason I thought they would freak out.

Good time to start thinking about it. Enrollment is way down, so even though the market isn't good for lawyers right now, it will be in 5-6 years.

Do some paralegal classes first. You get more nuts and bolts in Applied Legal Studies rather than theory in Law.

I find the classes are very similar to looking up RPG rules. It kind of scratches the same itch. They don't call it rules lawyering for nothing, lol

One of these days I want to be near the coast when a hurricane hits. My dad works with FEMA so I just get to see the aftermath. It would be fun to ride one out from a safe spot.

We've survived some pretty big tornadoes (like the one that destroyed the entire town of Barneveld, Wi back in the day) it's not as fun as it sounds from a distance.

I camped near Barneveld the next summer and stopped in town during a major storm. The town was still mostly flat and everyone was looking nervously at the sky.

I thought they had modern sculptures scattered throughout the nearby hills, then realized they were crumpled combines and tractors. It was awful.

There's standing water everywhere on the ground, but yeah, we're all fine down here. Sanibel is pretty far south of the storm. Not much wind damage (any?) but several inches of rain each of last few days.

I think greenteagamer is in the FL panhandle area and he came through ok. Taig/Rawr!, Sharoth, and Orthos are all in Georgia (I think) so they're under the bullseye for plenty of rain and maybe some wind damage. Hopefully they'll weather it without too much damage or disruption.

Thanks though. :)

I rode out Charley about 25 miles from shore on the mainland (mandatory evacuation from Sanibel) in a motorhome. I remember the worst part for me was the intermittent power--and later full outage for a day or so--and lack of online access. Bad weather doesn't bother me, so I spent a couple hours sitting in a loungechair on the RV's roof* working through mimosa's while wearing swim goggles. There was far too much rain to see anything, visibility like pea soup fog. (Went back inside and dozed through landfall.)

* Yeah, dumb, I know.

Glad your ok Ambrosia,

MY friend (WHo now lives in Tampa) says he doesn't understand what all the fuss was about.
But he was raised in Tulsa, OK (AKA= Tornado Alley)

I don't think he, quite, realizes how bad it is around him. ? ;P

Best wishes to all in FL and surrounding environs. :)

EDIT- In my friends defense, those of us raised in tornado alley tend to think that if it isn't roaring down on top of you, (literally, in the case of a tornado) then it isn't something to worry about. Flooding sometimes happens, but that's not our main concern.

I have lived 20(ish) years in LA. I now know better. :P

There was a storm going through Georgia? ~looks outside to see small tree branches down in my back yard~ Oh. There was. ~shrugs~ Oh well. Call me when it becomes a category two or above. ~goes back to browsing the internet~

Yes, it has been windy and the power has gone out a few times. But nothing too bad. OTOH, it did encourage me to finally hook up my UPS to my computer.

Didn't your mimosas get watered down?

Nope. Premixed the mimosas in a lidded 2-qt tea pitcher, drank 'em from a closable-lid travel mug. I didn't consider how much of a pain it'd be to have to climb off the roof to go pee though, and I'm clumsy even when I'm not buzzed.
