From what I read in some of my early Drizzt books, Salvatore wrote that he never wanted Drizzt or any of his characters to be statted in D&D anyways. Once you stat them, they stop being literary character that can change and grow and now become limited to the rules of the game. I am paraphrasing of course. It seems that did not last long since all his characters got statted out.
So yeah, he was not supposed to have any written levels in anything at all or any written abilities so he could stay fluid.
I can see a low wisdom because in one of the early books, Drizzt forgets how his eyes work.

Olive Ruskettle and Bruenor Battlehammer, my two favorite fantasy literary characters.
I liked Entreri... for about three books.
Sometimes death is better.
You either die an awesome villain(or hero, for others...)....or live long enough to be shamelessly warped to fit a new and contrived story niche.
Cadderly's ending in Cleric Quintet was poignant and moving. The "nope, just kidding!" tacked onto it really, really stank. (Not that the CQ was all that great, but... come on.)
Point is, Salvatore has clearly just accepted that his writing in TSR, then WotC's playground is going to operate under some rather crummy rules.

I loved Servant of the Shard, I also liked the Entreri and Jarlaxle books, except maybe the half-orc side story.
Wish he did more with Entreri and Dwahvel Tigerlillies, but whatever.
Loved the end of Road to the Patriarch.
Jarlaxle is still his awesome self in the later novels

Oh I'm sure, I've moved on.
Edit: can someone explain the sundering and whether or not forgotten realms has gone back to the way it was, use spoiler tags please, no one wants to get flagged by Kobold Cleaver. :-)

ULTRAGEEK wrote:R.A Salvatore has mentioned many times in his books that Drizzt is a ranger. In all the books I have read, he never used any spells associated with the ranger class. Why? This question has been nagging me for months..
Copyright and lack of Open Gaming License. It's a legal issue,
not a D&D issue. Well, yes it is a D&D issue. But, adults have to
follow rules even if your mom says it's ok..
I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but that has nothing to do with anything. As the owners of D&D, Wizards doesn't need to give or receive any kind of permission to use anything from D&D in their own books. (Heck, if they really want to, they can use stuff from Magic: The Gathering in their D&D books, and vice versa!)

In all seriousness, I may have missed any semblance of spell casting Drizzt did in Salvatore's books due to all the times the 'hunter' aspect of this Ranger showed up. His dazzling display of daring do demonstrated in his destructive dance of death was decidedly deadly.
Edit: Ok, the use of so many words that start with 'd' is probably going too far ;)

Nay, my good sir, I would not wish such a thing upon you for fear of another reading of the 'hunter's dance of death' to happen upon mine eyes and woe to anyone should that happen for I fear such a thing would cause yet another string of words starting with the same letter to cascade across the forums.
