Raising BAB and other small questions.

Advice

Pretty simple question. Are there anyways to increase BAB besides just leveling up classes.

Or if not, then what about a way to use character level or something as BAB...

1. BAB is a level-based thing, so no.

2. There is no way to fully replace BAB for level - Vanilla Monks can do it with Flurry for attacks, but they still need BAB for feats. Warpriests can use level for BAB to qualify for feats, but they are stuck with 3/4 BAB for attacks.

3. There are ways to skip BAB requirements on feats - namely Monk bonus feats and Combat Style Feats.

Well I am trying to figure out a way to speedily get Fox Shape as a kitsune, as I would have to normally wait till level 5 if I build how I'm planning to.

Yep.

Well then what class with sneak attack (including archetypes) can get BAB +3 the fastest?

The Slayer.

Slayer is the only full bab class I can think of that has sneak attack..

Otherwise all the rest are 3/4th bab and all would have to wait.

Could dip or something.
IF you decide to only dip slayer.. then be sure to look at archetypes some great little tricks.

I for one love bounty hunter.. switching out dirty trick at certain times can be great. SPecially with blind.

Well the Transformation spell allows arcane casters to have BAB equally to their level amongst other decent benefits. However it is usually not effective because you lose your spells for the duration and the cost the 6th level spell alone is pretty inefficient.

It's enough you can do it, but it's not going to be terrible effective. But it is an option.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Monk of the Mantis Unchained Monk.

Snakebite Striker Brawler.

And I guess just for the sake of completion, Bushwhacker Gunslinger.

Snakebite Striker Brawler gets full BAB and Sneak Attack at level 1, but the rest of the progression is staggered and strange. Also, you lose your feat-gaining option, so don't consider Snakebite Striker if you're going too much further than a dip.

wat

it's one of the highest damage potential builds out there

what do you mean "don't use this"???

Thank you a Vanguard Slayer should work just fine!! ;)

Also could you retrain a feat and place the changed feat on your familiar using the Beast-Bonded Witch Archetype

Kitsune, right? That means strength penalty, which means you'd want to go dex-based, which means more feats needed. Snakebite Striker is at a distinct feat disadvantage compared to base Brawler or Slayer. You don't get Martial Flexibility, which is an amazing thing that will let you pull your preferred combat style out of nowhere.

Keep in mind that as a Kitsune, most of their feats (minus Magical Tail) have this clause:

Quote:

Special: A kitsune may select this feat any time she would gain a feat.

Which means you can take it in place of a Fighter Bonus Combat Feat, Monk Bonus Feat, Sorcerer Bloodline Feat, Wizard Bonus Feat, (possibly) Cavalier Tactician, etc.

Keep that in mind if it helps (as for instance at 4 when you would have +3 BAB on a Rogue/Ninja, you can take Combat Trick and take this).

I wasn't sure about it with Combat Trick so thank you. However my build is kinda of strange, and relies alot on teamwork feats more specifically ones that use flanking. But one of the key parts is making sure I am a fox. I'll post the build later when I finish it.

Also not sure if it will be as strong as I hope, but boy will it be fun.

I think I know what you are trying to do. Be a fox and have a fox familiar and flank with it?

Yes basically. Using feats to let me flank as small creatures. Then later get more feats to help with it. Also since 2 tiny creatures me and my fox can be in same space if I am correct.

You do know your familiar won't be able to get feats unless you are an eldritch guardian fighter right? In which case, you might just stick to eldritch guardian honestly.

Don't forget about Beast-Bonded Witch.

Which honestly isn't all that great. Feats you give your familiar for flanking are feats you don't have for flanking. And considering its when you gain a feat, and you can't take the same feat twice unless is says so....

Alternatively, there are ways to benefit from your own Teamwork feats as if your allies had them, including a way built into the new Fighter options. This would only matter if you aren't as worried about your familiar also benefitting from them.

As well as a way using vanguard slayer. Though would it be truly taking the feat twice if its your familiar getting it?

Years later and a necromancy but, uh, why not just take Superior Shapechanger as an alternate racial trait to get Fox Shape at first level?

(Ah, okay, just checked and that book wasn't out when this thread was made.)

Still, solid advice for anyone trying to do this that comes across the thread in the future.
