ah, i see. well i suppose that is good, because i mean if you roll more dice (as one would from leveling up) you are bound to get more 1s...

I think Shinobi is with 9 of clubs and possibly Gunner. Meeting the coyote 'Stalker' at Sloan Lake park to organise getting across the border.
Takigami 'Overflight' Mina |
No, Gunner had a fake ID, and said he wanted to take hsi own car, yes? Or did I misunderstand his comment about using his car and smuggler compartment?
*Whisper |
Our planing phase was a little haphazard :D
I got the impression that he was offering his car to be used by the other group but wasn't sure if he was going to ride with us or drive his car...
*Whisper |
So you are with 9 of clubs and Shinobi and you guys have the real envelope. Correct?
*Whisper |
Myself and Overflight are crossing the Pueblo/CAS border at the regular border crossing in Overflights SUV.
You guys are in Gunner's car, meeting with Stalker, a guy who I'm assuming can get you across the border.
The others leave, to get a fake envelop and drop it off back with the other group who contact the coyote, Stalker, when informed about a job he will respond. Okay, ese, meet you at Sloan Lake Park.
It is a 4:37 when you contact him, Sloan Lake Park is about a 15 minute drive. By the time the other runners return with the fake envelope it is 4:47. When the coyote's group meets its 5:02
9 of Clubs |
On the road with spotty access and currently no access to my sheet (that will change). Daway I would like to be actively watching our surroundings for signs of magic specifically and other trouble generally, I do not have astral sight (if I understand the type of mage I am correctly).
Takigami 'Overflight' Mina |
I've been confused about who is where.
There was a post from the GM about us 'all meeting up again' and I thought that meant 9 & Gunner & Shinobi all got together in Gunner's car (Mina won't let anyone without a 'valid' ID in her car, which means only Whisper and Gunnery for now).
Takigami 'Overflight' Mina |
Question for the GM while we wait to find out how he wants to do the two groups (my vote is he just assumes we all met up again and the other two got into Gunner's car, makes things simpler given people have posted that way already). Probably the coyotes will meet them at the CAS border to get them over the next border crossing. That would seem to fix the issues.
Questions :
1) How much time does Mina need to put in on programming to work up an autosoft of her own? There's no rules for making programs or autosofts, so, I'm assuming we'll have to house rule it?
2) Mods to a vehicle include 'costs for installation by a mechanic'.
2a) How much can Mina save by doing her own installations/modifications? I'm assuming it's some percentage of the price for the mod? 25% seems reasonable?
2b) How much can she earn on down time doing mods for other people?
3) I'm assuming the base cost/time for an autosoft or program covers as many copies of that program/soft as needed (IE: you can copy the program as much as you want).

Addressing Taki's questions, (this is after quite a bit of thought).
I would prefer you not, allowing this might cause a little imbalance in the system with the other characters, I have no problem with you buying it at cost and saying you did this yourself.
I will allow you all to Work for the Man and trade 1 Karma for 2000 Nuyen (it pays well but eats your soul) or Work for the People and trade 2000 nuyen for 1 karma (it costs you a little bit but you feel better afterwords). This will have a cap of 5 Karma per adventure.
While we are on the subject, I will allow everyone to upgrade their bio/cyberware at the a difference in cost plus 30%

I have a couple of problems with this, DaWay.
You told me not to rebuild the character and I could just write my software later. The game says you can write your own software (Although they screwed up and didn't release any rules for it, unless it's in the latest PDF). I agreed because you said I could write it later, so it wasn't worth redoing the character. If you're going to change this now, I really want permission to rebuild the character since that's a fundamental shift. Especially on the mechanical skills, which I spent a ton of resources on now to be told that they are basically useless to me since I have to pay someone else to do the work anyway, and it's not as if I can do mechanic work 'in scene', so I don't need them nearly as high as I have them now.
DaWay |
It's giving you the option, to get more credits you want, while keeping gameplay fair between all aspects of the game. It won't be fun for everyone when you have all these drones doing your business and I have to throw the entire Knight Errant at you guys and everyone dies except for you, the rigger, sitting snug in your van.
I have presented the fairest option.
I will be giving everyone a chance to rebuild when they finish their first mission. I will actually be doing this through adventure 4 or 5 until everyone has a build they are satisfied with.
The mechanical skills are who your character is, it sounds to me as if you would rather powergame than roleplay, this is something I am not cool with. I already told you that you can say you will write them yourself but in an interest of fairness, they are going to cost the listed price to keep everyone on the same level.
Takigami 'Overflight' Mina |
I am not trying to powergame the system.
I am trying to hold you to what you said.
I have played this system since 2nd edition, with the exception of 5th edition.
I have GM'd this system since 2nd edition, with the exception of 5th edition.
I have always done my own mechanics/programming when playing a rigger or decker (or a combo such as 4th edition/5th edition).
Believe me, I know how to powergame the system. I've been messing with Shadowrun in general since the late 1980's.
Every game I've run or played in that had a rigger/decker, said rigger/decker has had the same issue.
That issue is, that by design, the rigger/decker is a very expensive character to maintain.
This is because while the Mage spends karma on new toys, and the street sammy pays money on new toys, and the rigger pays money on new toys, of those three, only the rigger's toys are by their very nature disposable toys. The street sammy does not detatch his wire reflexes and leave it to get shot to pieces so everyone can escape.
The mage doesn't maneuver their weapon focus in to the middle of the fire fight, taking damage over and over again to get the downed Sammy out. The rigger, on the other hand, does drive their most expensive equipment into firefights to have it blown up to save other's lives.
Your comments about not wanting me using my drones while everyone else is running around is mind boggling, as you are basically saying you don't want a rigger in the game, that is sort of their purpose. They run around with drones. It's becoming clear you just really have an issue with riggers.
This 'fairness' you are saying is really saying 'Everyone else will spend their money on things that are not disposable, but your nuyen is on disposable stuff, suck it up and quit gaming the system'.
I think I will withdraw from the game. You have been insulting as a GM from the start, you have derided me several times, you have insulted me over trying to learn the new system while having 4 previous systems rattling around in my head, and I really don't feel like dealing with a GM who is both inconsistent and assumes the worst on top of not thinking through the ramifcations of his actions.
In every previous version of SR, installation costs and parts costs were broken out, and for a very specific reason (the aforementioned disposable nature of the rigger's toys). Even the first edition had them (I had the book, just didn't run it), as well as rules for writing your own software (even if it took a splat book to finalize the rules).
To everyone else in the game, I hope you enjoy it.

Eeeh... to be honest I'm not too hot on continuing either. This has been a mess right from the start. First swapping us into Denver instead of Chicago, which for my Sinless character put him in a very bad place. Then there is the fact that no one had any clue what the hell was going on, not helped by you pushing us forwards so quickly and forcing us back together...
Yeah, sorry... but I'm not really being sold on continuing this game.
Max "3yeZ" |
dang. i feel like the Chicago group is going well... slow poster or two but it is the holiday season...
Atlas2112 |
Yeah, it's always interesting how you can have two (or more) people involved in relatively the same experience, yet have vastly different opinions of how the experience went.
But, yes, the Chicago group is going well. It will have to be seen if DaWay merges the two groups, as he said he might if there was a certain amount of attrition.
DaWay |
I figured on the attrition, which is why I split into two groups, figuring those posters will show themselves within the first mission. I felt as if my call was completely fair, others please chime in. If you felt that was uncalled for I'd like to hear it.
Killjoy PM'ed saying that he is dropping because he cannot handle the posting rate.
so that leaves a group of three and a group of four. Since both groups are half-way or more done with their current mission I would like to finish the current and then merge into one group in Chicago.
This leaves a hole in the group on the tech side, my thoughts on balancing this out are:
One of the Street Sam's start to fiddle with hacking and/or decking
Bring in another player (RL friend of mine)
or
Someone allocate resources (Contacts) to a hacker, to fill in the void.
Max "3yeZ" |
I had planned on knowing a bit of the tech stuff as background, but i dont have the resources to allocate to being passable at it.
Atlas2112 |
Of those three choices, the most beneficial one might seem to be the RL friend of yours. A character made with technical proficiency a starting priority is usually preferable to trying to shoe-horn it into a character who wasn't really interested in it.
And Contacts (and NPCs) to fill a role are kinda like the difference between eating melted cheese on toast, and ordering in a large 'za with a 4-meat topping. Sure, the former will scratch the itch, but you'd always just prefer the latter. =)
