Backstory:
Francisco Contreras, known as Frankie to his family and Killjoy to his colleagues, is a 22 year old Ork male. His family hails from Puerto Rico, the youngest of a family of six. Life was fairly normal for Francisco. Life wasn’t too easy or too rough. His parents were a pair of mid-level wage slaves, able to pay for a decent lifestyle. Francisco was a smart kid and he excelled in computers. Slight of build and small of tusk, Frankie was normal-looking enough to not earn the hate of his peers. Soon, he was building custom decks for all the kids on his block and he was able to develop his skills in a creative way. He was eventually able to turn this passion into a career path, earning a scholarship in Computer Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It was here, however, at one of the worlds most prestigious scientific academies in the world, that Francisco would find his fate: running the shadows.
Frankie thrived in at MIT. Surrounded by people that were as smart as he was and nurtured by a helpful and engaging faculty, his talent with computers increased. Francisco was easily able to adapt to the increasingly wireless world. Spurred on by his increasing skills, his rebellious classmates, and the arrogance of youth, Frankie began hacking. Nothing serious at first: changing the AROs around campus to confuse freshman, cracking coed’s comlinks for their numbers. Slowly, it became more serious. Francisco became better known on the Matrix, assuming the handle Killjoy. He began more taxing and complex jobs, such as shutting down the student drop box so a friend could turn in a paper late. MIT is not known for a lazy security department, and this is where Killjoy cut his teeth as a hacker. When he tried to bring the entire security node down for the university, he overstepped his capabilities. Campus spiders tracked him to his dorm and he was expelled for his mischief-making. To top it off, when his dormitory was searched, security found a briefcase full of BTL-chips amongst Francisco’s things. His roommate had hid them there to escape punishment. He claimed innocent, but he still received several years of jail time. Killjoy was released after six months on good behavior. Alienated from his family and unable to find a decent job because of his criminal record, he pawned most of his possessions and bought the best programs he could afford. Facing poverty on the east coast, Contreras now works as a hacker for hire in Seattle, where his skill set is highly valued. |
