Makes it a warning too :P
I suppose I could research this myself, but since I have a bunch of RPG SS nerds captive here I might as well ask. I am wondering if the monster rounds have traditionally allowed for a picture along with the stat block?
I am drawing my potential monster, in part to help me visualize it, and also because I want to show it off. Will I be able to use my drawing?

I think Mikko posted an illustration of his monster 2 seasons ago, but that was well after the voting had closed. It won't help you win votes, but I bet your fans would love to see it after round 3 ends.

Yeah, I wouldn't post any pictures of your monster until voting ends.
Also, rely on your words. 95% of the time, freelancers that design monsters for me don't see the art until they get their book (or PDF).
And 100% of the time the art is light years better than whatever I could have produced from the description I gave to the artist.

But I have to constantly remind myself that what's done is done, it was the best effort you could give at the time and you need to take the lessons from it and make your next effort that much better because of them. (= And sometimes this happens every few books you publish. I have plenty of things I would have loved to do differently or thought of a cooler idea weeks or months after a book went to print that I'd LOVE to have done differently. Like you said, such is creative work.

While I'm here, I wanted to make sure that you current contestants that are already thinking about monsters knew that a couple of use monster fanatics revived some advice threads from a judge and contestants that we've used in previous years.
My "So You're Designing a Pathfinder Monster" thread. Full of dubious advice I'm sure.
Eric Hindley's "How I Make a Monster" thread.
And... as a bonus this thread contains links to Mikko Kalio's blogs (and other A Sword to Hire stuff).

'Tis a shame. Though I understand the reasoning. The competition is not an art contest, and giving people who can write and draw an advantage would hardly be fair for the others. A picture is worth a thousand words after all, and when you're measuring a word count that matters.
I will probably eventually post an image of the critter, if I get into the next round, and if my critter even works within the rules once they are posted. I'm certainly not going to dedicate any more time to drawing before the Round 3 submission deadline comes though. That's time that could be spent obsessing over word choice and double checking statistical values :P

Otherwise it falls into that all-important rule #5 about adding information about your submission and all the rest...

Thanks for the concern, but I'm so paranoid about getting disqualified on some technicality that I'm being very careful about stuff like that.

Adam linked to the whole thread, but here's what I noted about monsters last year season.
The stats don't reflect last season's monsters (though a super quick check reveals LOTS of neutrality last season; still no lawful evil or lawful good Superstar monsters).

Can't help but shake my head in disbelief. I hope everyone learned a valuable lesson and we won't be seeing any more DQs in future rounds.

Yes, please don't risk a disqualification by commenting on your entry. If you feel you have to make a comment, then wait until after voting closes.

Just popping in to say hi and congratulations on making it this far (can't let Jacob W. Michaels do all the representing for the Superstar Jacobs). There are some awesome maps among your submissions, and I had a hard time picking my 8 votes.
Enjoy the ride, and remember that even making it this far is a great achievement. And even if you don't make it any further, the experience, exposure and contacts you get from being a contestant can still help you break into freelance RPG design. There a a bunch of 3PP's out there looking for talented designers right now.
Looking forward to seeing 16 spectacular monsters in the next round. If you are not already hard at work making them, you should be.
Monica Marlowe wrote: Something I would like to ask anyone who has achieved Guildhall status to consider - putting your RPG Superstar entry links on your profile page. I went looking for some stuff and it is terribly inconvenient for me to go looking through all the contests to find your entries when I can find you so easily.
Okay, it's not for me, it's for the 3PP who also may be looking at your stuff. And me. It's always about me ;-)
Took me a little while, but they're up there now! Along with links to some of the 3PP stuff I've had a hand in! (=
I too have now taken the time to update my profile with links to various things I have had a hand in.
As voting close draws near I wish you all good luck. Well done folks. Regardless of if we proceed, you all did very well and I'm honored to be here.
OK now that that's outta the way...where's the blackjack?!
Best of luck to all you guys. I think this was genuinely the most difficult voting of any round 2.
Well over half the maps are contenders for advancing, in my opinion, so it'll probably be a close one!
Special kudos for getting maps in with a very short deadline. Getting anything turned in is an accomplishment, and getting all those good entries in under those circumstances is darn impressive.
Best of luck to everyone. There were many great maps this round and I was hard to figure out which of them got my votes.
Voting was hard. The majority of the maps featured great locations, and narrowing it to 8 was rough.
About six hours to go till we discover if we can sit back and relax or if our obsession with previous years' entries and the mechanics of Pathfinder will only deepen. Best of luck, everybody!
Good luck to the 16 advancing. I have a pretty good idea of which 16 move on. Think I'll be getting to relax and work on some projects that have been back-logged now.

I will have to say this about all the sitting and waiting. Before the map round even opened, I had 3 monsters made, and I figured the rules would tell me which one I'd submit. Once I saw the maps, I decided I needed to step up my game, scrapped all three monsters, and made a new one.
Good luck everyone.
Like everyone else I'm hoping to get through (I have a feeling this is my weakest round, so hoping to somehow make it), but even if not, I just wanted to say:
Gentlebeings, it's been an honor.
Good luck everyone!!!!
I'm honored to be competing with all of you.
Bows
These past few weeks, have been some of the happiest Competition I've had.
Good luck y'all!
To those who move on to the next round: I wish you enough time to work on your entries AND to sleep when you need it.
November...or elimination days, are for sleep.
With less than 10 minutes to go, good luck to everyone in the top 32.
And congratulations to everyone who gets into the final 16.
Congrats guys! Do the rest of us proud!
Congratulations to those who went on, now to plan your demise next year. ;-)
Congrats winners! :-D I'm glad I got to compete with you! Keep going strong Guys!
Congratulations, Top 16! Looking forward to your monster entries!
Congrats to the top16! Great Maps!
A pox on all your hous- err, I mean congrats to the top 16. "Ask for me to-morrow, and you shall find me a grave man."

I find it particularly interesting that maps with submission issues of one kind or another (no 50-word context, submitted at a very small size) made it into the Top 16. Since there were calls (public and private) to either allow these to be edited or disqualify them, I'm gratified to know that allowing them to compete as-is turned out not to be "pointless," as had been suggested to me a few times.
Similarly, the question of whether something was a "good flip-mat" or not (which wasn't ever mentioned in the official rules) and whether these maps should therefor be of a single encounter (and in any case we've had flip maps of entire dungeons before) didn't seem to have any trending impact on what was popular with voters overall.

Congrats to the top 16, now go make us some awesome monsters!
Congratulations to our best half! :) Amazing work, all of you. You've set the bar very high for the next year's contestants!
As for me, back to the drawing board... and see you next season!
Also I'm happy to give feedback for Round 3 drafts if anyone's interested.

I always accept any and all feedback! I'm anxious to learn, and always happy to know how I can improve.
Congrats to the Top 16. Looking forward to seeing everyone's monsters.
Congrats, new top 16! Can't wait to see your monsters!
Congrats to everyone who made it! Hugs and encouragement to those who will hopefully be back another year!
