Hmmm.....I may retract my earlier comments.....maybe...we'll see.

Mostly because of 2:15.

Everyone is going gaga for Harley, and rightly so.

But between Paper Towns and this movie Cara Delevingne who is on the second picture in that link, will blow up as well. Supermodel by day, geek sexbomb by night.

Sovereign Court

She's really pretty.

I love everything about this so far....EXCEPT the joker. I still think he looks like a marilyn manson rip off. Maybe this design looks better if he is in a suit?

At least he sounds like the Joker I guess...

I had thought I was the only one who thought that she looked almost exactly like Gillian Jacobs.

Honestly, the more I see of this the more meh I feel towards it.

I was worried when i saw the first images start to show up but im not looking forward to Suicide Squad.
I think the Leto jokerwill be very different from the Jokers that we have seen before but i think it will fit the movie and how DC is shaping there universe right now. I hope...

I'm still not sold on Leto as the Joker (but then I'm not a fan of his acting at all) or how they've re-imagined the Joker's look.

I want her to be strongly based on her look in the Arkham Asylum video game

I want to see her in a costume based on Justice League: Gods and Monsters. ;)

Scarab Sages

After seeing Leto in those few seconds as Joker, I have a teeny, tiny hope that maybe his performance will shine through the entirely idiotic look they have given the character.

Finally watched the trailer. Really not liking what they're doing with Harley and the Joker at all.

I honestly have no issue with how the Joker looks. If, like the others in the movie, he's been in prison for a while it makes sense that he won't be in his purple suit. It's not that unreasonable that his hair would be cut short as well, after all, he is the kind of psychopath that would hit a broken piece of a pencil in thick hair to later stab someone with it.

The Tats are a bit much, but that's not enough for me to despise the look.

For me, what really gets me are the ridiculous teeth

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, get rid of the tats and the teeth, and he could possibly be a decent joker.

I like Harley's look a lot better. I still think they could tone down the tats, but it's not the deal-breaker that it is with the Joker.

Probably helps that Margot Robbie is freaking gorgeous.

Which itself seems strongly influenced by her Arkham City costume.

Harley can get away with the tattoos because she's always been a perky goth street thug, basically.

The Joker is supposed to be more than a common criminal. He's supposed to have UNDERLINGS with tattoos that say HAHAHAHAHA and teeth like Lil Wayne, not be the guy with them.

Cesar Romero was more believable and better looking as the Joker than Leto is.

Except when she was a promising young psychiatrist, you mean?

Sovereign Court

Because promising young people in any highly regarded profession don't get tattoos?

Btw, just read this. A nice piece.

I mean that as more a reply to the "always a perky goth street thug" more than as to having tattoos.

And there are still quite a few professions where having prominent tattoos will at the very least get you cross-eyed looks. If not from your colleges, then from your clients.

I would love to hear what people think of this trailer and the movie BEYOND Joker and Harley.

I really like how the team looks. Deadshot's costume is on point. And I'm really excited to see Wil's performance. Killer Croc looks awesome, so great to see him in live-action movie. And my favorite Squad member Captain Boomerang looks just like the scumback he is. Next trailer better have him throwing some 'rangs! Also interesting to see how Slipknot fights in the movie. He seems to have some kind of rope-gun. Batman should sue. Really digging the Katana's look as well. She oozes threat and danger and I love that.

Amanda Waller also looks good, and her attitude towards the criminals is spot on. They are just tools for her.

I'm starting to think that the Enchantress might be the big bad of the movie. Trailer really focuses to her- she is exploring the cave, sitting in the pool of...something with markings above her and then in her full getup. And I can't see her in the group shots of the trailer. Either she is full villain, or being played by someone else.

Shadow Lodge

As someone who hasn't ever really been into DC, Joker and Harley are really the only two characters I'm familiar with to any real degree.

Dark Archive Vendor - Fantasiapelit Tampere

This scene really makes me laugh. I bet Digger just said something REALLY inappropriate or flirted with her. Even though I liked the Arrow's Captain Boomerang fine he was really far away from the comic book version. He was just another professional killer with grudge. This however seems much more closer to Digger Harkness of comic books that we love to hate.

Back to the point about the villain- I found these pics taken from the set. These...are not normal folks: Thing 1 and thing 2.

Ideas?

Shadow Lodge

#1 - Possibly Killer Croc ?
#2 - Some dude wrapped in tin foil.

Objection: Harleen Quinzel and Harley Quinn are entirely different people.

I think we are getting origin stories for Harley and Enchantress included as flashback within the movie (maybe for other characters as well?). I don't think Enchantress is the big bad, but hell if I know who is.

Beyond Joker and Harley, Killer Croc looks awesome (the earlier pic made me a bit worried). I also think Will Smith looks pretty cool as Deadshot, and Amanda Waller was pretty awesomely cast.

As for Slipknot...IIRC in the suicide squad comics, he was one of the guys who tried to escape and thus triggered his explosive device. So um...I don't expect him to be alive for all that long in the movie.

The only one not in the team lineup was Joker... so I am guessing the Joker is the big bad guy.

It might actually be a detractor, in a way. I mean I'm watching her character on screen and I should be thinking "dangerous freak" but all that comes to mind is "damn, this look really works for her."

Sovereign Court

Isn't that kind of the point?

I just wish they'd used King Shark rather than Killer Croc for the big bruiser. But that seems to just be me :P Mentioned it on the show tonight when we were talking about the trailer and got shouted down pretty quick by the others.

I dunno. I always viewed Harley as more sexy/grotesque than beautiful. This might be because my main exposure to the character was through the Arkham video games, where everything in general is over-the-top and females specifically are sexuallized to absurd degrees. The resulting Harley is a sickening psychotic girl who adopted exaggerated "sexy" behavior as part of her horrendously abusive relationship with the Joker. In turn, that makes her good looks just seem part of her persona.

The Harley in this trailer? the pretty-psychotic scale seems to tip more strongly towards the pretty end. I guess we haven't really seen her in action yet, but the vibe I was getting from her was that of "the pretty face" rather than "the obsessed lunatic".

Sovereign Court

Watch Batman TAS.

Harley was kind of ooooh she's pretty and seems to like me, maybe she'll help me escape from that laughing monster, oh look she's grabbing a mallet, maybe she'll break my restraints. Wait, why is she swinging at me nooooooo....

Possibly because if your not familiar with the other characters the trailer is so disjointed that you can't tell what is going on other than the voiceover. Harley sticks out because she is one of the only things that isn't black. Everything else is so monotone that it all looks the same.

Aside from the Joker and Harley Quinn, my only real reservation about this movie is Will Smith as Deadshot.

Smith is a great actor who can pull off a lot of roles, but Deadshot is about as unsympathetic as they come and it seems likely to me that he'll add a bit too much charm and humanity to the role.

The trailer already has hints that he's not quite the lunatic he was in the comics, and if they decide to soften up his character I think they'll need to pull in something great to offset that dynamic.

(Well, that and I'm still a little bitter that they didn't have Smith grow a porn stache for the part.)

Liberty's Edge

Deadshot's been lightened up in a number of properties as of late. See his portrayal in CW's Arrow, for instance.

Dark Archive Vendor - Fantasiapelit Tampere

I think Smith can bring the somewhat deadpan sociopathy that Matthew Morris mentioned earlier: Like this. Something like Hancock.

The trailer seems to indicate Deadshot as a leader-type. I don't know what that means in regards to staying true to the source material, but for me it just means I get to see Will Smith be charismatic and awesome, so I can't be too upset about that.

Liberty's Edge

Flagg's the leader, but Deadshot (at least his more recent incarnations) is a professional. He has a death wish and the level of detachment needed to be a professional assassin, but he lacks the mental issues that tend to plague supervillians. He typical appears to have a leadership role in Suicide Squad appearances if only because Waller and Flagg consider him reliable and he's one of the people focused on getting the job done.

Also, Boomerang would look much better without the facial hair and wearing something other than a track suit.

Bro? Why you have problem with tracksuits, bro?

Sorry, wrong universe. :)

Liberty's Edge

Because it makes him being a bigoted, cowardly, incompetent bogan seem obvious.

Preach it brother Krensky. Ye Olde ways are the true ways.

Let us return to black and white TVs and coal as a main source of energy!

Dark Archive

Regarding the Joker's teeth, there was a Birds of Prey comic where Barbara Gordon shattered most of the Jokers teeth driving the madman even further mad, after all the Joker was always proud of his winning smile.

He got a grill after, maybe this is that Joker, with the Batman responsible for breaking the Joker's pearly whites in this universe.

I don't remember Heath Ledger wearing a purple suit.

You might want to rewatch The Dark Night. Event though: I am looking forward to see Letos version of the Joker.

Well, technically he does not wear a purple suit. He has purple long coat and vest, but not a suit like Joker has in the comics or previous movies.

My biggest mark against the movie trailer is it doesn't feel like the Ostrander Suicide Squad from that fat stack of back issue comics I got as a kid. Since the nu52 relaunch, the previews of the new SS comics just felt like the writers (and DiDio/Lee's inescapable shackles) were trying to retread the same ideas haphazardly/half-assed without understanding the why of how Ostrander's stories & characterizations worked.

Beyond Joker/Leto and Harley/Robbie: I am looking forward to seeing Viola Davis knock it out of the park as Waller. I'm not sure Smith can actually bring the detached dissociated Deadshot to life onscreen beyond just coasting along on his starpower while channeling "generic grim anti-hero". The only time I enjoyed Jai Courtney's acting was in Spartacus, so I have little hope his Boomerang won't be a yet another dull uncharismatic vacuum. Joel Kinnaman will probably do better as Flagg, but the Robocop reboot sucked and he lacked the acting chops to rise above the movie's faults in any memorable way. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has had plenty of crappy thankless roles, so I'm hoping they'll let him bring Croc to life, but that is some extensive prosthetic makeup to act through. I don't enough about the other cast members to have an opinion on them, but why the heck is Katanna even on the Squad?
