It didn't look that deep when I jumped in...
When a GM gets you out of a hole, do they just kill you, or do they have a more sophisticated method that saves durability/inventory? If they just kill you, I can do that myself without having to wait 3 1/2 hours for the possibility of a GM on a Saturday.

Or, find a friend to come to your location and transfer all your stuff to him except a newby weapon, and then kill yourself with that.
On a related note, Golgothans who perform idiotic maneuvers worthy of great shame may be ordered to come before an assembly of their peers and club themselves to death as punishment.

I don't know if it is still there because I avoid it like the plague. But there was two holes that were death traps through the pass from Phaeros to Keeper's Pass on the west side.
I remember seeing Ryan's avatar sitting there for the next person to fall victim to them.
Those two seem to be gone now, along with the not quite as bad but still annoying trench nearby.

The ones that were on the best-time path through that hex are gone. There may be more that nobody has found yet.

I thought this was common knowledge but there are ways to get yourself out of a hole without death that work probably 4 times out of 5.
Basically you need to carry in inventory any weapon that you have trained an "evade" attack for then line yourself up in an appropriate direction and hit yourself with it.
Combination I know to work:
Mace or Club with Escape
Wand with Windrider
Other combos like Dagger and Footwork will probably work as well but I have not tested them.

Evasion sometime work. But there are holes out there that it doesn't work. I ran into a hole yesterday in the meteorite hex in the SE of the map and nothing would get me out but death. Thankfully, I didn't have anything valuable on me at the time.
Then a few minutes later another person got stuck in the same hole and asked my help getting out.

I've been trapped in a few holes, a few evasion helped. One was a deeper trench. I don't know if the trick still works but this was how I got out of the hole:
Logged out. Then when I logged back in, after hitting "enter world" I immediately pressed and held the up arrow. It seemed that you could move before the terrain loaded (even though you can't seen anything but the loading screen). When I was able to see the game, I was out of the hole.

Other things happened. I'm still anxious to test, tough. Maybe someone can remind me while I'm in-game :)
