Stuck in a hole...

It didn't look that deep when I jumped in...

When a GM gets you out of a hole, do they just kill you, or do they have a more sophisticated method that saves durability/inventory? If they just kill you, I can do that myself without having to wait 3 1/2 hours for the possibility of a GM on a Saturday.

They have "summon char X to this spot" spell.

Have you tried the position self, log out, then log in and take no other action but a jump when ready?

Or, find a friend to come to your location and transfer all your stuff to him except a newby weapon, and then kill yourself with that.

On a related note, Golgothans who perform idiotic maneuvers worthy of great shame may be ordered to come before an assembly of their peers and club themselves to death as punishment.

Or give the friend all your stuff after hitting yourself twice with a club, then let him kill you for a free PK achievement and a story he can use against you in mumble for weeks.

Vorsk kindly rescued me.

Goblin Squad Member

At least your rescuer didn't get stuck in the same hole as you with you. :P

There were 2 other holes right next to his hole... That spot hole heaven...

I don't know if it is still there because I avoid it like the plague. But there was two holes that were death traps through the pass from Phaeros to Keeper's Pass on the west side.

I remember seeing Ryan's avatar sitting there for the next person to fall victim to them.

Those two seem to be gone now, along with the not quite as bad but still annoying trench nearby.

I just found a whole 1 hex NW of Blackfeather Keep. Right on the road. Luckily someone was nearby and I transferred my stuff to them before bashing my own head in.

Not the best way to die.

The ones that were on the best-time path through that hex are gone. There may be more that nobody has found yet.

There are two near Blackfeather Keep that are so deep you disappear completely into them.....for us Dwarves at least. I suspect they are deep enough to make a human invisible as well. Ticket sent.

The trouble with holes is that Ryan's avatar and pins attracts people and.... whoops

at least until we learn to avoid Ryan. :-)

I thought this was common knowledge but there are ways to get yourself out of a hole without death that work probably 4 times out of 5.

Basically you need to carry in inventory any weapon that you have trained an "evade" attack for then line yourself up in an appropriate direction and hit yourself with it.

Combination I know to work:

Mace or Club with Escape
Wand with Windrider

Other combos like Dagger and Footwork will probably work as well but I have not tested them.

Evasion sometime work. But there are holes out there that it doesn't work. I ran into a hole yesterday in the meteorite hex in the SE of the map and nothing would get me out but death. Thankfully, I didn't have anything valuable on me at the time.

Then a few minutes later another person got stuck in the same hole and asked my help getting out.

I tried evade in the hole I was in, it didn't work. The hole was pretty much the dimensions of a grave. Since it is in a hex I visit often, I will inspect it tomorrow.

It would be nice to be able to put a big warning sign over a hole when you find one. Or, failing that, some twigs and leaves :)

I've been trapped in a few holes, a few evasion helped. One was a deeper trench. I don't know if the trick still works but this was how I got out of the hole:

Logged out. Then when I logged back in, after hitting "enter world" I immediately pressed and held the up arrow. It seemed that you could move before the terrain loaded (even though you can't seen anything but the loading screen). When I was able to see the game, I was out of the hole.

Very interesting! I think I'll run some controlled tests on this tonight :)

I'm not about to jump in a hole to test that. I eagerly await Nihimon's test results.

Other things happened. I'm still anxious to test, tough. Maybe someone can remind me while I'm in-game :)

Hey Nihimon! Go jump in a hole!!

[wow! Now it's not even a nasty comeback.} :-)

I was unable to reproduce the results.
