A Bit of Theorycrafting: All Hail the Manticore

Advice

After re-reading the Magic Item Compendium and after seeing the Gloves of Endless Javelins I decided I wanted to build a character who uses this exclusively.

Since my games are almost always gestalt I was thinking Warpriest//Ranger focusing on the thrown weapon aspect and using his javelin as his deity weapon. Kurgess has Javelin as a weapon.

Half-Giant is good because it increases Str and Wis, and gives your Javelin's a 1d8 instead of 1d6.

If you're doing this purely for theorycraft purposes try doing it non-gestalt. It's really, really, really, easy to perform hilarity with gestalts.

I just prefer Gestalts, and rarely go into cheese or insanity levels. Often just want to hit all good saves, decent skills and so forth.

And it is theorycrafting for now. But it doesn't mean it might not see play someday.

It's really difficult to create a character who can invent death and all things that are bad...

FEAR THE MANTICORE!

i approve of this name

Quick Question: Thrown weapons to hit and damage is based off Str right?

Thrown weapons use Dex to hit but get Str to damage.

I see, that is quite messy. I thought there was a feat for that. To use Str

Dread Prince- if you will excuse the slightly off topic question, You are one apart in running gestault.

The consensus among those I game with is that if you can't produce an unbeatable character by middling type level you are silly. They would all like to try it, but none are willing to run gestault.

I don't know myself, but they all know the game better than I, and I am curious as to your thoughts. I strongly suspect if you give the PCs free reign they will quickly hang the campaign.

Oh I could make an unbeatable character using gestalt, but I would rather use it to flesh out a character and give it complimenting powers and abilities that make sense. For Example a Swashbuckler//Bard fits a theme very well, as Bards and Swashs use the rapier as their iconic weapon. Its hardly optimal though.

There may be a feat to allow Str to attack, but I'm not familiar with one. There is a magic item Belt of Mighty Hurling (and a lesser version) out of Ultimate Equipment that allows you to use Str to attack instead of Dex.

The feat is Brutal Throw from 3.5, Power Throw is also very good for throwing weapons.
