One way or the other, whether xp is backdated for just main or DT or both, I'll want to log in as soon as real life allows. Just because I want IN. :D

Goblin Squad Member

I will probably make my 1st character then log out and make my 2nd character. Then do the relevant stuff before I make my way to my Settlement.

That way, there XP will only be a few minutes apart. I probably won't be one of those people that tries to be on for the 1st minute of EE, but definitely the 1st day.

Goblin Squad Member

I'm curious if we are talking about the same things?

Why is there a need to back date xp at all?

Day one of EE, may be a different day for each consumer. I purchased the Pioneer Kickstarter, which came with 4 months of play time.

Lets say EE launches on January 2, 2015, but I don't register / create my account until January 27, 2015. My four months and my characters don't start until Jan. 27, and should not get or need backdating to Jan 2.

Unless Goblin Works is intending on making all Kickstrters effectively start on the same day and the 4 months of KS time is used up, whether you have "started" your characters / account or not?

I also don't see why, if we have a DT account, we can't just create two characters and designate one as main (the first) and the other as a DT. Both gain experience points at the same rate.

Points spent on the main, are automatically available for the DT. Points spent on a third character, from the Main's pool, are also lost to the DT.

This is how the system was described in the blogs, and previous Dev quotes.

Ryan has indicated before that because fulfilment will not be complete, if you login during the first period, you'll be assumed to be wanting to start day 1, and will get XP accordingly. Later, you should be able to pick differently.

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. Back dating XP, in this respect, refers to creating a character when EE first launches. As a way of avoiding a mass of people creating a character at second 1, GW has stated that if character is created in the first two weeks, it will have XP as though it was created at second 1. The tech for DT is different, however, and it may not be backdated.

Nothing to do with Kickstarter or points spent, purely character creation.

There were updates about a month ago. The twinning feature has changed to a dedicated character that always gets XP, as long as any character on the account is earning. For at least the near future, the twin will be less of a twin and more of a special extra character.

There is also a possibility that if you ever delete the designated DT, you will lose the feature. I anticipate there will be significant blowback if that comes to be, as it is strongly at odds with the word "forever" in the kickstarter.

I think the technical solution for this could be as simple as having no delete button for such characters.

It would probably suffice to require triple-confirmation with unavoidably clear language that you will lose your Destiny's Twin benefit forever if you follow through with the delete, perhaps even requiring the user to type the words "I will lose Destiny's Twin forever".

Typing in the words is a good idea. Sometimes when distracted or not thinking about it you can just rapidly click buttons that stand in the way of getting in game.

I think the team decided on no delete option for DT characters. Simple, fast, no possible error. Tradeoff is you lose a character slot forever.

Remind me, are our character names saved? Or do we need to log in day 1 second 1 to ensure we get the names we want?

You will need to make all new characters in Early Enrollment.

We promised the Kickstarter backers that we would have a name reservation system and we don't have one. So if there's a conflict over a name, we'll resolve it by looking back at the KS pledge data, determining which pledge was received first, and awarding the desired name to that user. The other person will need to pick a new character name.

Hopefully we won't have many (or any) such issues.

How many character slots will be available for EE?

Have you decided on a time frame? I.e. how long do I have to worry that some older kickstarter could come along and take one of my character names away?

lol ... at the start of encumerance my KS main was stuck and it was no longer possible to unload him with alts on the same account so I offloaded all his crafting items and high level stuff to a invite alt and put it in that alts vault :D

Not a good plan it seems :D

Yay!

But the house sitter maxed out our data cap for the month already...grrr.

Ugh... data cap. I don't think I could ever tolerate that for my home. Cell Phone is understandable but it really falls under the greed of the Cellular provider.

What makes it worse here in the USA, most Asian and a few European countries have better Internet data capacities then we do because our government has allowed cable companies to form monopolies.

Yeah, we're currently on satellite here. We're under contract to get broadband here for work, but it's mid-winter and Comcast is dragging their feet. I'm hoping they can finish up wishing a couple of months.

I agree, our state of internet here in the US is pretty poor considering what we could have.

Edit: More importantly, Yay EE!

... you should try living in Australia,

Our current government believes fast internet merely encourages peadophilia, terrorism and internet pirating and should be discouraged at all costs :D

@Ryan,

Will it be possible to request creation of a Main and DT with requested names throught customer services linked to an EE account.

Life's events may have me away from a suitable computer for connecting to the game in January. I may be away from my computers in remoter regions of Colorado. I am hoping EE starts sooner, but I am not sure when I need to take on other duties.

We have not settled on a time to deal with name reservations. It is something we need to do quickly. We also don't have an out-of-game rrservation option.

I really like the implications in that statement :)

Ryan could set up a Survey Monkey Survey and include it in the 48-hour notice email, asking players to give the email address their account is registered to, and 1 or 2 names they would like "reserved" for that account.

It would cost $228 for a 1-year subscription to Survey Monkey, but would provide GW and the players with a more definitive place to turn to than just "Who paid first." An explanation that the "survey" is not binding would be necessary; but beyond that GW would have a viable database of the information they need to easily arbitrate name disputes whether they occur on day one or day 40.

Heck, I don't even remember which names I reserved. I think they were all dwarven names but that's about all I remember from that. :-)

I've been thinking since yesterday, and I'm going to avoid Alpha at this point. I don't really want to watch a bunch of super-characters fight. I'd rather enter the world with plenty of mystery ahead. Have fun, and I'll see some of you in game sometime tomorrow, probably.

If anyone sees a redhead with a name similar to mine in game going on a sangria fueled consequence-free murder spree muttering Fallout Boy lyrics incoherently over the mangled corpses of unsuspecting victims it's... umm... an imposter. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Fallout Boy - The Phoenix

Wearing our vintage misery
No, I think it looked a little better on me
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix

Put on your war paint.

That's a good one. I'm a fan of Centuries too.
