Players, some exciting news.
Our stress tests this weekend indicate that the server performance has improved to the point where it exceeds our minimum qualification requirements to move the project to the start of Early Enrollment.
The team is on Christmas break but we are still doing some basic housekeeping tasks in preparation for some monumental announcements just over the horizon. One of those things is changing the code to reflect the correct permissions for Early Enrollment.
So it is with a little bit of wistfulness but a heart full of excitement that I'm announcing that we're ending the Alpha Stress Test period this afternoon.
After we make the necessary server side changes the only people who will be able to access the game will be those with Alpha or Early Enrollment accounts. People who had Alpha Access via a friend & family invite or other mechanism will no longer be able to log in. Nor will users with Explorer or Open Enrollment access. (Remember - you can always upgrade your account in the Goblinworks.com store!)
We thank everyone for helping us with the Alpha Test. Without your participation and feedback we would not have been able to achieve the huge improvement in the game that Alpha has represented. Due to your help Crowdforging we've been able to get core game systems aligned with your expectations and to verify that the various systems are working as intended (or within parameters we'll accept in the short term).
Have a great Holiday!

Yay!
But the house sitter maxed out our data cap for the month already...grrr.
Ugh... data cap. I don't think I could ever tolerate that for my home. Cell Phone is understandable but it really falls under the greed of the Cellular provider.
What makes it worse here in the USA, most Asian and a few European countries have better Internet data capacities then we do because our government has allowed cable companies to form monopolies.

Yeah, we're currently on satellite here. We're under contract to get broadband here for work, but it's mid-winter and Comcast is dragging their feet. I'm hoping they can finish up wishing a couple of months.
I agree, our state of internet here in the US is pretty poor considering what we could have.
Edit: More importantly, Yay EE!

Dang, there net my 6 week bid int the poll at Rotter's Hole. SOmeone said 4 days. Who was that. I think that is closest. OK, this week will be alpha because GW, properly gets this week off for all the effort they have put in (sleeping under the desk!).
They have moved but need to redeploy, 2 days. Maybe Friday (after New Year's day) flip switch. THat may be aggressive.

OK I can confirm the change. I had two temporary outreach accounts that did not have Early Enrollment. I added Early Enrollment to one; I couldn't let my level 10 wizard die in Alpha prematurely. I logged in this morning and the account I upgraded was fine and I can no longer log into the one I did not upgrade.

Sigh. My invite-account from waaay back in Alpha 7 can also now no longer connect. Alas, Darkleaf, you will be re-born soon! :)

A question about EE. The Destiny Twins will be available or not at the stat of EE?
Last information was yes the new form of Destiny's Twin will be available at the start of EE. Now you can permanently and irrevocably select one character on the DT account to always receive xp as long as any character on the account is gaining xp. If that character is deleted you lose the DT perk too.
What this means is that your "main" should be the one to get selected for Destiny's Twin then you can set to train one or two other characters on the account as you please and your main will always be gaining xp too.
This also means we're right back to everyone with DT trying to log in minute one and get two characters set up so as little xp as possible is lost.

I believe it has been stated that a two week or so "backdating XP" will be implemted to avoid a massive server crash as everyone tries to log in on day 1, hour 1.

You are correct. There will be backdating of XP. I don't know all the details, but it will be made clear when we put up the blog announcing the start of EE.

Latest released information on that (before the change to how DT works) is:
the first character you create on the account will get its xp backdated if you do it in the first two weeks of EE. The second character you create on the account gets no backdated xp even if you have a DT account. Now add the stitch with changes to DT and you have people racing to be first minute again so they can create TWO characters- one designated DT and the other gaining xp the regular way as early as possible. Only one of them gets the backdated xp we're still racing to get the first minute xp for the other character.

Perhaps I'm just confused, but can someone explain why the first character you create gets the back dated xp?
The natural sequence in my opinion is that we create our main or primary character first and then our Destiny's Twin second. Your second character or any character created after the first, and designated as a DT, should get the back dated XP.

I see the reasoning. An army of characters with a couple weeks' worth of free XP is an unreasonably large gift. I think the best solution, if it's possible to implement, will be to make an exception for DT characters but not others.
Edit: Everyone could have an army of Tier 1 crafters in all crafting skills. Severely overpowered and something that would destroy the tier 1 economy.

There is no "free" XP. If you sign on during the backdating period, you will use up a month of time from day one forward.

All things considered, losing a few hours or even days will become almost meaningless in after some time. It is the beauty of a system where the cost of the abilities is incremental while the rate at which you gain XP is linear.
By the time I get to raise a skill from 6 to 7 a new player had the time most of the way up and almost catch the older player.

There's a technical complexity to backdating XP and I do not know if the team was able to make it work for Destiny's Twin or not. As soon as I know, I'll let the community know.
Given the stated objective for backdating XP, it seems obvious to me that they'll backdate it not only for the first Character created on an Account, but also for Destiny's Twin.
Perhaps I should have said it seems obvious to me that they would want to backdate XP for Destiny's Twin as well :)
