I had a great idea for a staff, but I couldn't get it to where I was happy with it before the deadline. One of the biggest challenges is that, because it's a spell trigger item, I can't just pick the coolest themed spells and have it work... they have to be class list spells. Between wrestling with the spell selection and looking for a weapon-like function or alternate use for charges, I had to abandon it.

That was actually an issue for me with a lot of staves. I'm okay with a design choice to have not all the spells in a staff be available to a class, but it needs to look intentional. The question "who is this staff for" came up more than once, even among winners.

I'd like to start by submitting my non-SIAC wand:
Wand of Puncturing.
This sharpened wand, oddly, has no magical aura. It does, however, grant the wielder the ability to make melee attacks that do 1d4 points of piercing damage, plus any Strength modifier the wielder may have. As long as the wielder has more than 0 hit points, she can continue to use the wand of puncturing without expending charges. Once the wielder's hit points drop below 0, the wand of puncturing ceases to function. So too does the wielder.
I offer up this addendum:
"A wand of puncturing is treated as an adamantine weapon for the purposes of overcoming ego damage reduction."
:)
Edit: Make that "...treated as adamantine and lawful" so it works on slaadish egos too.
