Regarding the slaughtering of young goblins thing. Aren't Goblins in Golorian irredeemably evil (though comical)? This kind of thing was a given until RA Salvatore starting writing gray areas into every "evil" race in the Realms.

Also, why do we get to kill young red dragons then? Shouldn't we be running around trying to rescue them from bad upbringings as well?

Technically, nothing is irredeemable in pathfinder. They even made outsiders that were literally embodiment of the forces of their alignment capable of shifting.

I fail to see how having consensual sex either either unlawful or evil...

For every 'Lawful Stupid' Paladin PC I see, I see three DM's who for some reason try to enforce such behavior on them.

Well Goblins tend to nibble while red dragons will just eat your ass. But i see your point and i don't see why you couldn't have players running around trying to save the evil ones and taking them some place that trys to turn them good or some such.

Now on my world i have Chromatic dragons that are good but its less to do with there up bringing and more to do with there souls being inherently evil or good from birth kind of thing.
On my world if you got a good reason of how it could be done i wouldn't have any problems with a devil or demon turning good. And a Angel falling and going evil or something of the like.

I don't think that consensual sex is bad for a paladin but casual and frequent and probably "meaningless" sex, especially outside of societal "rules" (ie wedlock), probably is non-lawful, maybe even chaotic, and that's because it's doing things as they strike your fancy and not being orderly and restrained.

I'm not familiar with the history of Thassilon (it does sound unfortunate) so I was just speculating on the meaning of virtue and sin and how they relate to culture vs objective morality in Golarion or home settings.

Actually the history of Azlant is unfortunate, Thassilon is for the setting more or less about the classic ancient corrupt/evil human wizard empire, maybe if you stretch it you could see it as a lesson on things like "best intentions" and "human nature".

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here's an idea. Why don't we not include sex under the umbrella of alignment? Not everything a character does have to relate to alignment.

Of course, the problem also is that this is RotRL, and it treats 'lust' as being something "sinful", so . . .

You must be using an unusual meaning of the word "problem".

From the GM's perspective, a PC in this campaign with an easily recognisable connection to one of the 7 sins is actually a solution, not a problem.

Not to mention that in my (admittedly limited) experience some of the Paladins who go Lawful Stupid do so because at some point in the past a GM told them that was the right way to play the class.

"Also known as Lawful Anal, these people may call themselves Lawful Neutral, or Lawful Good but they lean toward such rigid adherence to the law that anybody who breaks any law, anywhere, for any reason, is the enemy. Even saying an unkind word to someone is an act of pure evil, and the Lawful Stupid can and will act as Judge, Jury, and Executioner.

Woe be to the fellow party member who fails to live up to their obsessive-compulsive standards. If the thief so much as jaywalks, Mr. Lawful Stupid will insist on turning him in to the "proper authorities" (regardless of what alignment said authorities are), or even execute him on the spot. Then he'll berate the other members of his party for "condoning" the thief's behavior, and may turn on them as well. This makes this guy highly irritating as well as stupid for turning in his only allies. For newbie DMs, the best solution is usually a blunt force object applied to the head of the offending character -- if not the player."

Thanks that helps me to understand better :)

Funny, but not in line with his Paladin ethos.

Have a bunch of the young town kids start emulating his activities in a coarse and uncouth manner and asking him "Which town dragon you gonna slay next?" while thrusting their hips and pulling odd faces - and generally be deplorable, have word out he's a lothario and cassanova, have Shayliss now 'with child'... Then point out to him that society expects a lot more.

Paladin Falls is dead boring.

What if the paladin served the empyreal lord of virgins and whores?

On the other hand, this does provide some comic relief for the group.

Any suggestions as to how to handle this? I feel like I'm running a table top dating simulator every time we go back to Sandpoint.

Rewrite the paladin code or ignore it and let the player tell you when he falls.

Any action the Paladin takes can be construed as violating the code and making him fall.

As for killing the romance, there isn't any mechanic that let's him make NPCs sexually lust for him. You can just make him the Brock of the group.

It's only troubling if the Thassilonian take on virtues and sins are in fact in line with the objective good/evil morality.

This. The matter to bear in mind is that the patron Goddess of ancient Thassilon was Lissala, who has been categorically stated by James Jacobs as always having been Lawful Evil.
