Recommend me an Android tablet for Paizo PDFs.

So I'm currently using an old nook color to read my PF rulebooks, but it's not great in the speed department, and chokes entirely on some of the more image-heavy pages.

So I'm looking to upgrade. I've had good luck reading said PDFs on my Android phone, but the screen is too small for comfortable viewing.

So what's a good tablet for this? As I've enjoyed using the Android OS on my phone, I'd prefer a tablet which runs the same. I'd also like to avoid spending more than $200 on one.

My Kindle Fire is two years old and still does very well. I'd definitely suggest it. Don't need the HD one either. It has dropped in price since i got it. Best RPG purchase to date.

I've been using a Google Nexus 10 for about a year and a half now and I love it. Unfortunately, they are on the pricey side. If a 7-inch screen is adequate for you though, then you might look into a Nexus 7 instead. Looking at prices on Amazon, the 2013 model are $230/270 for the 16/32GB models respectively, and the 2012 32GB model is only $150. (2012 is a 1.2GHz Tegra 3.0 w/ 1GB RAM, 2013 is 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 w/ 2GB RAM.)

If you value an SD card slot over the fastest Android updates, then look at some of the Samsung Galaxy Note tablets instead.

I have a Nook but it is one of the newer HD models. It took a bit of playing with but it does a really good job with the pathfinder pdfs as well as other things such as the pathfinder ogc sites. It also has a bigger screen than the nexus 7 at less money than the 10 with the added advantage of an sd card slot. I have been happy with the purchase.

I have heard that the snapdragon processor is fast. One you might look at that uses such a processor is the Samsung Galaxy Note.

You might look at the new Samsung 10.5 inch. It has much better resolution than their previous models (2,560 by 1,600 pixels - the 10.1 inch display had half that).

I just took a look at it and found a pdf readable by the page (I downloaded the D&D basic rules down on it to take a look as it didn't require a login to do so. I assume the font size is about the same as a Pazio pdf). Also it's pretty light.

Hang on, Kindle Fire and Nook?

I got my Kindle years ago and it reads PDFs very, very badly. Granted, this is one of the earliest Kindles so I'm sure newer models are better, but how is the page loading/scrolling speed compared to, say, viewing on a phone or PC?

Can you guys provide a link or at least the model to your tablets/e-readers? I'm assuming the battery life is still great with the e-readers.

I use Kobo Arc 7 - it is a bit slow in opening PDFs but I might be spoiled by laptop combined very fast SumatraPDF reader...

I got a model with 64 GB (which boils down to about 55 GiBs which interest us more) so it has lots of space for pdfs and music. I haven't chance of using it during an actual session, however.

Galaxy Note Pro. Large enough for comfortable landscape reading combined with side by side app containers make note taking as you read uber easy.

I bought a Asus Transformer Infinity about a year ago. I'm probably gonna get something else. It just takes too long to load up PDF's. I even did a factory reset which gave a brief performance boost. One good thing about it is the battery life which can't be beat with the keyboard attachment.

You definitely should go with a Ipad.

I have an ipad 2. Sometimes it loads pages fast sometimes not. I use iBooks for most things, but there was one time where a PDF simply wouldn't load so I downloaded Adobe Reader and the file works (Mutants & Masterminds 3)

I would imagine a new iPad would work faster, but this one is 2 years old and the battery is still going strong.

Don't be fooled. Text is far more readable with a HD screen.

if you're getting a Kindle Fire, you want the HDX version. Don't get a cheap tablet, after a couple of weeks of trying to use one with a large PDF, it's going to spend the rest of it's existence gathering dust in a drawer somewhere. A Samsung tablet with a hi res display or an IPad are good choices.

I guess so. I've honestly been using the Kindle Fire just fine. Sometimes I just use the default reader. Other times I use Adobe reader. But yeah, I've never had an issue with it and I have horrible vision.

That said, it looks like the HD dropped in price. May look at that.

I bought my GF an Acer Iconia 7" and its actually a great tablet for web browsing and PDF viewing. It suits all her couch surfing and TTRP needs. Wont do much else but thats not bad considering I saw the tablet in a best buy add this week for like $120 with an extra mem chip.

The Nexus 7 is a wonderful device. I still have the older-gen and it does everything at full speed. My eyes are getting a tad weaker these days, so I am looking to move up to a larger screen, but if 7" suits you, the Nexus 7 is great.

I've got a Nexus 10 and have had it for almost 2 years. I love it. The price is up there, but it is a high end tablet. A nexus 7 might do you just fine, but I love having a 10.1" tablet and having it in portrait view for PDFs, it's just like reading the book (albeit a little smaller than full page). Budget tablets just don't have the power needed for these PDFs unfortunately.

If you have a choice get a 10 inch tablet, it makes all the difference in the world. 7 inch is good for browsing the web but for a tool for RPGs you need the extra real-estate.
