Spoilering just in case players are reading this:

Spoiler:

Ok, so I got a real problem with the end, namely Kassen's Ghost, Kassen's stuff and Kassen's Curse.

I get why people bury their dead with some of their possession. I get why those people would enchant the items so anyone stealing them would get cursed.

What I have problems with though is, why the heck would a good ghost actually care? He can't use the stuff. It's just lying there, rotting away, probably till some grave robbers come and steal it and either suffer the curse, or manage to break it. Either way after that the stuff is gone and used for god knows what.

Why would Kassen's Ghost be "Ok, thank you for killing Asar and returning the undead back to their rest, but TAKE YOUR FILTHY HANDS OFF MY THINGS!!!"

Why wouldn't he say "Ok, I don't need that stuff anymore, and I wish for you to have it and put it to good use protecting my town" instead?

I'm almost tempted to leave Kassen's Ghost out of the story entirely, have them piece together what happened from Asar's ramblings, the dead tomb raiders and Dimira's report, just so I can avoid that problem.

Scarab Sages

They said he was good, not that he wasn't a dick. Does it happen to mention if he was a paladin when he was alive?

Stealing is stealing hence why its called grave robbing and he is a good ghost and view it as stealing as wrong hence the curse.
he may have cursed the items because they held greqt importance to him in life so much hes at rest having it with him. He is a ghost so he is somewhat aware of his body and pocessions.

You could do like i did and have the party ask if they could have or use his stuff and have the items scale to the players level until it caps out like it is when he was wearing it in real life or at the very least if they asked just have the ghost say he cannot because they were so important to him in life that he is somewhat bound to them and/or simply warn the players he cannot because the items are cursed and since dead cannot uncurse the items.

But honestly i think the whole reason why was bcause the moduke was written with the players being from that village and the ghost being an important person in their history and it was the writers way of basically teaching new players that just because stuff is shiney doesnt always mean u get to snatch it especially in a roleplaying game where taking this guys stuff woukd be the same as taking a foundy fathers items....

You gotta realize that this module really is, especially in PFS context. It is in essence a hazing ritual for low level players, the whole module should be treated as such.

Shadow Lodge

If you were a PC playing Kassen's Ghost and some adventurers came along wanting to loot your stuff, would you give it to them?

Grand Lodge

Perhaps aspects of Kassen personality linger in the afterlife...

Maybe he was very protective of his possessions in life and that pattern continues in death?

Maybe he was OCD and it's less about the items, and more about having them in the correct place (and facing the right way)?

Kassen is a venerated hero from that area. If you spend the time to convey this and his importance to the local region, maybe the players won't want to rob his grave.
