Golarion Candy

Is there a PFS legal source for 'candy' in Golorian?

Hard candy, soft candy, taffy, any old type of sweets.

3/5

Taldan chocolate is in a scenario.

5/5

Ultimate Equipment has chocolate, honey, ice cream, and cake mix in the food & drink chapter.

Grand Lodge 5/5

After the adventure captin sent me to the kellids with 20 pounds of chocolate, my armor is really tite now.

I don't think they have the word count for this sort of thing.
But we can imagine!

Chelish Scarlet Drops (cherry flavoured!)
Grampa Droskar's Toffees (caramel, soothes the throat)
Gnome-Gnubes (Jubes that can taste of any food such as scone, lamb and mint sauce, curried eggs, etc)
Fizzle Dust (Gnomish popping sherbet that pops in the mouth for 2 minutes. Probably would grant a -2 to perception for listening in that time, but maybe a +1 to auditory based saves?)
Besmaran Rum Ball (contains one standard drink per candy)
Cinder Block (Tiefling liquorice ball made of aniseed, pulped rat's blood, and ash)
Kaer Magan Gumball (produces a gum so sticky the eaters mouth is welded shut. Great for child hostages!)
Thassilonian Pleasure Stick (ancient rod of peanut brittle so strong that it will render you toothless)
Quester's Gobstoppers (Dwarven gobstoppers that last as long as the sky citadels! Each pack includes a trading card of a REAL Dwarven Ancestor hero! Collect all 6,578!)
Sovyrian Brandy Snap (This delicate wafer is so fragile that even an errant breeze could destroy it's perfect texture. Truly a connoisseur's choice.)
Gnoll Trust Slave Treat (Just one bar a year keeps the slaves locked in fear)
Tengu Dumplings (filled with red bean and fuzzy caterpillars)

CAKE MIX????

People piss and moan about gun slingers in pulp fantasy destroying their suspension if disbelief, and paizo has cake mix in the items list? What's next, canned tuna?

(Okay, it probably isn't really worth being that indignant, but really...)

You say that as if cake mix was a modern invention only.

And as for canned tuna; what do you think oak barrels, glass and earthen-wear containers sealed to preserve foods are for.

Also, I recommend you learn a little about the kingdom with a SPACE SHIP crashed into the middle of it! (I'm talking about you NUMARIA!!!)
Feel free to mock the space ship and the Technic league.
And the gearsmen...
And the andriods...

Lantern Lodge 3/5

The source books for Golarion should really include more information on food.

Coming from a country that prizes food, I really find the lack of detail into food a little of a let down in terms of world building.

Taking about Numaria, what are the chances you would find cans of Coke among the debris.

Shadow Lodge 2/5

Who knows? Some of the things that come out of there are down-right Outer Limits/Twilight Zone material.

Not to mention the boatload of H.P. Lovecraft based scariness...
Bestiary 4 has Cathullu in it. Need I say more?

Uh, cake mix is a modern invention, at least compared to guns. It first started showing up in the 1930s. And by canned tuna he doesn't mean preserved tuna, he means actually canned tuna, which was first produced in 1903.

Shadow Lodge 2/5

I swear, if I see an ancient red dragon with cybernetics and a multi-layer vocal augment to use six voices at once to tell me it's going to eat me, I might consider leaving Golarion alone for a while until the writers come to their senses... :)

I'm sure there were some cooks in ancient times that just decided to pack ingredients together for ease of cooking later. Not commercially, mind you. Just because they found it convenient. Mostly nomadic cultures who had to bring what they ate with them for long periods of time. Fresh baked food on the move is not a modern invention.

No, but a ready made, store bought, consistent product is definitely a modern invention, and that's what's in Ultimate Equipment.

Ok, I re-read the "Travel Cake Mix". Yeah, it's freakn' Bisquick. :(

My answer for that: THE ALCHEMIST DID IT!

Shadow Lodge 2/5

Yep. If it's magical and hard to justify, a wizard did it.
If it's chemical or oddly modern in origin, the alchemist did it.
:P

Lantern Lodge 3/5

I'm still waiting for the source books on supermarts of Golarion. Where you can get CLW wands with bulk discounts.

Shadow Lodge 2/5

Katapesh. Supposedly, you can find just about anything there for the right price...

Lantern Lodge 3/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

But I want products neatly displayed in different clearly labeled aisles.
With air-conditioning.

Also no haggling over prices and tons of freebies. :P

+ Nice music played in the background while you shop.

Silver Crusade 2/5

There are greeters outside many stores. Bards with Charm Person...

Yeah, Cake mix is not only modern, it is also a product of abundance. It was created because someone needed to sell a lot of people a lot of molasses because they had too much. It's not that earlier societies couldn't make it, (though making it and preserving it are two very different things.) It is that it is a product (as you say) of supermarkets and bulk grocers. Things that if they were common in Golarion would radically change the setting.

Ditto Canned Tuna. The presence of canned tuna implies commercial fishing fleets, bulk canneries, etc. Not that you couldn't do it. But you probably wouldn't bother unless you needed a way to deal with more tuna coming in than your city could possibly eat.

That goes way beyond gun slingers toting hand manufactured guns that jam every ten to twenty shots.

Lantern Lodge 3/5

Mass marketing is invading the Grand Lodge!!!

On topic. Would it be far-fetch for someone to open a supermarket style shop in a large city like Absalom?
Would people, from rich to poor folk be happy for the convenience of buying goods all under one roof?

It does not even have to be by a single shop. It could be a cluster of shops under 1 roof.

My sorcerer, oops, I mean Razmiran Priest, found one in Eto, where he bought a Pathfinder Pouch for a 25% discount.

Spoiler:
Actually, I used a boon he had earned that gave him that discount...

Not too far fetched. In the dark ages some shops shared roof as they needed to use the same resources the buildings provided. Altough there were no real grocery shops back then, I could see a fishmonger and a butcher sharing a building as they both need to use a deep cellar to keep their wares cool.

The Exchange 4/5

5 gold for chocolate bar might be a little too much though. might have to put some in as treasure in my home game.

Grand Lodge

With JJ's confirmation of cocaine in Golarion, what about Cocaine Toothache Drops?

3/5

cocaine leads to coca cola
coca cola leads to fear
fear leads to anger
anger leads to empty calories....

That particular mission was great. That 18 pounds of chocolate was probably the most useful bit of gear we ever took on a mission.

We know from one Season 4 scenario that Dragons love cake.

Grand Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, California—Sacramento

That was what went wrong last thursday! We didn't know about the cake! So we had to kill the dragon instead. (Season 3 scenario.)
