Need a low-level gender-bending spell!

Advice

Okay, some context.

our party is escorting a VIP with a bounty on her head. Due to the fact that she has been dressed as a man from the initial meeting onward and the rest of the party failed to see through her disguise everyone thinks she's a guy IC, except the cleric who put 2 and 2 together when healing a crossbow bolt through her shoulder (with mundane skills).

Now the wanted posters all had pictures of her male disguise so we figured that the best way to slip under the radar with her was for her to take off said disguise. As the group wizard I then decided to mess with the rest of the group and work with our contact to pretend that 'he' was turned into a she by my magic.

The catch is that I'm level 1 at this point and I need something up my sleeve in case called on to perform the same trick again!

Also, convinced some shmuck that I'd cast a Geas spell on him a bit later. that was fun.

Anyway, thoughts?

The nearest I can come up with is Disguise Self, but (as the description suggests) it is self-only.

For 1800 gold you can get a Hat of Disguise, but that requires you to have a spare 1800 gold at 1st level and be in a position to buy such an item.

Disguise Other is 2nd level. Or if you set it up right you could hide her somewhere then use Silent Image to create an illusion of her as whatever gender.

Uh. I don't see why Alter Self wouldn't work.

The OP states that he is level 1. Alter Self and Disguise Other are therefore out of reach for now.

"Ummm... I used a scroll. Yes, really."

With a +15 bluff, I might just be able to get away with that...

EDIT: Hmmm, how high a bluff would I need to convince someone I'd successfully cast such a spell on them?

If 3rd Party is allowed, a scroll or wand of Reverse Gender would do the trick.

That'd do the job, right enough.

I wonder, could a bestow curse variant do the job too?

How much money do you have?

Silent Image should cover it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd go with Bluff.

If questioned, you say: "I'm a wizard. It's magic. I would explain, but your mind is trapped by mundane concepts and could not grasp the esoteric concept."

Preferably in a tone of voice like Dr. Orpheus.

I'd also go with bluff and/or additional disguise skill checks, and I don't know that silent image would work or be recommended (it is a figment and thus cannot make something appear to be something else, plus it requires concentration or it ceases to exist).

Tell them not to meddle in the affairs of wizards, as they are subtle and quick to anger.

I think you could convince your party to not look to closely at the 'spell' by saying the only way they could truely understand it is by having it cast on THEM. Then being very willing to cast this 'gender reversal spell' on them.

If you pull it off, you know you have a bright future as a priest as Razmir.

about 25gp, give or take.

Ah.

I was going to suggest a Cap of Human Guise, which costs only 800gp.

Use another disguise? Buy some different clothes, use a few fake scars, have a good disguise skill check and you should be golden. Have her hunch over with a backpack under a cloak to give off the impression of a hunchback. It shouldn't be too hard to fool the average town guard.

Here are 2 lies you could use:

Say that they have to pass a psychological test so you are certain they can handle the physical and neural chemical changes that take place, in addition to the shock that could occur if they were to somehow forget that they changed. Then say that they failed and that it would be unsafe to cast the spell on them, and that their body might physically reject the spell against their will.

Or say that in an accident the spell page was ripped out of your spellbook, in addition to [list spells that you have never and will neve cast, to make it more plausible].
