Dang! I saw this a while ago and wanted to add my hat to the ring, but i lost the thread :(
Still, i have 1 day to throw up what i can for this :)
I have lots of ideas that would be fun to play, but i am not sure which one i would want to play to lvl50.
What are your thoughts on crafting?
My main idea would be a golem crafter. Im thinking of a master craftsman dwarf whos dream is to create stone golems and such. In a pipe dream, he would eventually create a golem that he could wear around himself like an impeneratrable fortress, or a cannon golem to rain death from afar.
A large part of his core concept will be coming from here, building and modifying constructs.

Once per day, a ring of the beast can be activated as a standard action to unleash the primal spirit hidden inside even the most peaceful creatures. how she survives:
she uses her cap of human guise to appear like a lost child or to get herself into an orphanage. she then goes from family to family getting what she can from them and moving on. sometimes if they start to catch on there, is a fiery accident. she doesn't really like to kill like that, she would prefer to just run away and get back into the system.
on adventures or when she is bored playing that roll she does not look too much different. her fire elemental trait stand out a little more though.
her red hair seems to crackle like fire, she radiates an aura of heat. She can actually inflict fire damage to people near her if she want to.
How she got to where she is:
Annie has been watched by various outsiders (especially other fire elemental's as her uniqueness is a bit of a curiosity. they are not sure if she is a threat or not.
But also Asmodeous has taken an interest in her as well. despite the fact that she is not a divine character, Asmodeous has granted her a special boon. (she can use the alternate summoner tables like a follower of Asmodeous)
Summon II: Hell hound
Summon IV: Cerberi
Summon V: Bearded Devil
the story below is how she was noticed by Asmodeous in the first place.
"Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see! hehehe!" Annie giggled as she danced around with her toy bear Tibbers in the forest behind her home off the main trails around the northern Shudderwood. Annie plopped down on her small wooden chair her father had made for her and set Tibbers down in front of her. Annie set down her tea set on the tree stump in front of her.
"Look Tibbers!" Annie held the teapot in her hands and closed her eyes. "Mmmm WAH!" The teapot let out a friendly whistle as steam rose from the top. Annie poured herself and Tibbers a glass and smiled mischievously at her bear.
"Tibbeeeeers are you hiding the honey again?" Annie said with a smile. She reached behind her toy bear and brought out a small bottle of honey. "Oh you silly bear, don't worry I'll give you extra!"
Annie couldn't have been happier with her tea party and favorite guest Tibbers. As a matter of fact so happy she forgot how long she had been out.
"Oh Tibbers mommy is not going to be happy with us." Annie said looking worried. She quickly grabbed Tibbers and started running back to her house.
A Noxian Demon in the Heartlands? Not since the destruction of the Gray Order. The hooded and cloaked figure slowly walked amongst the settlements founded by the old Order slowly navigating themselves towards the unsavory area of town. The figure walked into a nearby tavern and took a seat at the bar.
"What'll it be stranger?" The bartender asked trying to peer under the patron’s hood to make out a face.
The stranger didn't say anything but just slipped the barkeep a note and an envelope.
"Ah alright." The bartender pocketed the envelope and beckoned over two mercenaries that were sitting in the corner of the tavern. The two got up and followed the stranger out of the tavern. Outside in the alleyway the mercenaries looked the hooded stranger up and down. Then they looked inside the envelope they were each handed. After smiling approvingly at the sum inside they walked off towards the Hastur residence.
"This is it man this is our big break." One mercenary said to the other nervously. "We just drop these summoning stones inside the house and no more scrappin’ for money."
"Shut up and cover your face!" The other said in a hushed whisper, "if that Gregori Hastur fellow is really as good as he's supposed to be we're DEAD MEN if they see us."
Night was already falling when they arrived on the hill with the Hastur residence. Only one light was on in the upper story window and the back gate was open. The mercenaries walked up along the side window and slowly lifted the latches.
"Hey Charles these void stones from that Demon feller will deal with the wizards inside so I got to thinkin that while they are busy with that why don't we see if we can get our hands on anything inside. These wizard folk always have all sorts of them magic items that we could sell off in the market ye?" The mercenary said excitedly.
"Alright we'll see throw those void stones inside and we'll sneak into the other window." The one called Charles instructed.
The two mercenaries dropped the two violet void stones they were given inside the window and ran to the far side of the house.
Gregori and Amoline were upstairs in the study reading from their collection of tomes and scrolls. They would have been too focused in their work to notice the crackling of summoning stones just one floor below them. Nor they would have noticed the demon that was lurching its way out of the temporary portal to the stones opened. They wouldn't have heard the beast dropping its clawed feet onto the wood floor and stretching its sickle hands into the air. Little did they know the foul stench of human only further enraged it and the taste of magic only empowered the being. The powerful mages would have been prepared for the beast crawling up the stairs. But that is the price of the endless pursuit of knowledge for the only things the mercenaries heard were the sounds of rippling bolts of magical energy and tearing of flesh; afterwards only the latter could be heard.
While the beast was quietly feasting on its new meal it did not smell the two mercenaries sneak into the house… but that is the price of an insatiable desire for flesh. But most importantly neither the beast nor the two now would be thieves noticed a little girl entering through the back door coming home after a long day of play.
As Annie slowly creaked her back door open she could sense something was amiss, "Mommy..." her call went unanswered, "Daddy?" silence. She clutched Tibbers tightly against her side. Annie let out a little whimper as she saw the entire first floor ransacked. The drawers were emptied and the shelves were all knocked over. The trembling little Annie flicked her finger to all lamps into the room lighting the area. Annie stood in place and looked around there were bloodied foot prints all around her some human some a shape she had never seen before.
"Mommy...?" Annie called. Then a single drop of blood fell from the floorboards above her and landed on Annie's cheek. The thing about frightened little children with immense power is that when their emotions are unstable so is their power. Annie's eyes lit up with flame and a molten sphere formed around her. She started giggling uncontrollably.
"Come out; come out where ever you are." Annie chirped as she hurled a fireball towards the closet door, blowing it off its hinges. As the smoke cleared Annie witnessed a man hunched over on the floor of the closet trembling as he tried to keep his partner from bleeding. There were vorpal spikes protruding from the mercenary lying on the floor, each infected wound bleeding profusely.
"Dammit Charles...ah jeez I'm so sorry man, just stop bleeding..." He looked up to Annie that was beaming as if she found a new toy.
"Have you seen my bear Tibbers?" She asked the mercenary and before he could answer a sickle claw burst through the side of the closet wall and dragged the screaming mercenary away. Annie giggled with glee thinking they were now playing hide and seek. Annie loved to play that game.
As Annie skipped over to the closet closer to the sound of gurgled screams she stepped over the dying mercenary and peered into the hole where the other one was just dragged through.
"I found you!" Annie said happily, "come out and play...heeheehee...don't make me hurt you!" Annie said in a sing song voice. Disappointed when nobody answered Annie rushed up the stairs to tell mommy about her new friends. When she opened the door to the study she didn't find her parents. What used to be a neat and orderly room was littered with scorch marks and blood. Annie slowly walked over to her mother's favorite chair and picked up the purple riding hood she always wore. Annie slowly started to sob. The child slowly came to the realization of what could have happened and this made her very angry.
Annie began to wail, kick and scream her tantrums causing the furniture around her to spontaneously combust.
"MOMMYYYY!!!" She yelled through her tears. Her cry did not fall on deaf ears, as she looked up she saw the beast staring right at her mouth agape from the door. Its glowing eyes and fangs dripping with blood hungered for her. Annie hurled a fireball at the beast which glanced off its plated back. The now irritated monster lunged for Annie and inches from her face let out a feral scream that would have silenced any normal human but Annie only screamed back at it. Almost on cue a Tibbers tore away from Annie's hand and grew into the feral bear. It lunged onto the beast and ferociously bit into the beast neck as the void creature tore into Tibbers with its own fangs and claws.
The louder Annie screamed the larger the flames emanating from Tibber’s body engulfed the two beasts, locked in a death struggle. Annie thinking the two were dancing wiped away her tears and skipped around the two as they tore at each other. In her delight Annie hurled balls of flame in all directions as her entire house was ablaze. She was the conductor of a fiery opera her hands waving madly as fire sprung from her palms and all around her.
"Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posies, ashes, ashes, Your all Gonna BURN!!!" Annie shouted gleefully as the burning house started crumbling about her.
The house burned through the moonlight with the roars of Tibbers and the beast slowly dying down as the night passed on. The fires slowly turned to ash when there was no more left to burn. The burnt wood and smoking embers were all that was left of the Hastur residence. A hooded and cloaked character, The markings of Asmodeous cleverly hidden among his clothing, walks up to the wreckage and surveys the damage.
As the cloaked figure walks up the charred steps, stops and stares, at an unfamiliar sight, in the middle of everything; There lying in the middle of the wreckage was a little girl quietly sleeping while sucking on her thumb and holding a burnt stuffed bear by her side. Behind her lies what was the charred remains of a giant beast with its arms and legs torn from its body.
The figure chuckles, what is this, he wondered. A little child had slain the mighty Cho'gath? He bent over and picked up a small violet riding hood that was next to the sleeping girl, then slowly placed it on Annie's head and brought down the ends and tied it in a neat bow under her chin. He then turned to go “It’s not your time yet dark child, but I will have my eyes on you. You have yet more tests to pass.
The figure was startled by the sound of approaching footsteps. “Your next test begins now dark Child” he whispered. And with a wave of his hand he vanished along with the remains of the Demon Cho’gath.
“There!” One of the approaching soldiers exclaimed, seeing the charred remains of the manor. The soldiers, looking over the wreckage, came across the same scene. But this time, Annie stirs slowly waking.

Here is my submission.
David sits in a large ornate office Referencing something on a monitor and scribbling some notes in a leather bound book. Silently a small red light embedded in his desk begins to glow. With a displeased smirk David presses the key to bring up a small window on his monitor connected to the hidden camera network he secretly installed in his section of the family home. Looking even more displeased at what he sees, David locks his monitor and rises from his chair. "Ug, Must I deal with this again?" He mutters to himself.
After retrieving a small revolver from his desk drawer and stowing it in a pocket, just in case, he quietly exits his office. Standing in the doorway of his foyer he quietly watches the intruder. The intruder is riffling through one of the large file cabinets that David always keeps locked. What the intruder doesn't know is that David doesn't keep anything important in those files or on paper for that matter. He merely keeps them well guarded so that others will think they're important.
After a short moment David says in a calm tone, "Is there something I can help you find, Felicia?"
Twirling around the intruder is startled for a moment, but quickly composes herself into her much practiced mask of innocence. Like all Noble Drow she's breathtakingly beautiful. More-so as her long white hair falls perfectly back into place. With a devious grin and a low sensuous voice "Hi, David. I was just..."
David cuts her off with a direct and level tone, "Save it. We both know I'm not interested in what you have to say. Is there a reason you've broken into my private area or is it just the usual snooping. I may have to defer to you in public due to those ridiculous traditions, but we both know that I'm not going to fall for any of you idiotic plotting. So save your breath and just tell me what you want."
Davids irritation only making her grin larger Felicia replies, "Mother wants to see you."
"That can't be anything good." David Thinks then responds to Felicia, "Fine. Tell her I'll be along shortly."
"Not Now. At dinner. She wants us to have a family meal together in the great hall like we used to. She commands all the males to dress in their finery. Make sure you wear the emblem." Felicia chides
"Even better." David says with a faux smile. "You can tell her I'll be there."
"I'm not your errand boy." Felicia says as she struts out of the room.
Waiting a moment for her to leave David looks at the still open file drawer and sighs in irritation. Returning to his desk David pens a short note with exquisite penmanship on equally exquisite stationary he folds it and seals it with wax and his signet ring. "She does lover her anachronisms." David thinks while rolling his eyes. "If she'd get a cell phone I could just text her, but no. She's far too important to bother carrying the smallest, lightest, thing that will make her life 1000X simpler. *Sigh* Whatever." Pressing an intercom button on his desk, "Send in Samuel." He says without waiting for a response.
Moments later a butler appears in the doorway, "You rang, Sir."
"Take this to my mother.", he says sliding the note to the far end of the desk not bothering to take his eyes from his computer monitor. Almost as an after thought David does look up and makes eye contact with Samuel, "and if she asks tell her I indicated I was looking forward to this evening."
"As you wish, Sir." With a nod Samuel takes the note and leaves.
With renewed determination David returns to his work on the computer. Opening a small chat window with his Lawyer, Barry Horowitz, David types:
David: "I'll agree to the last version of the sales contract if they sign it within the next hour and transfer the money within two."
Barry: "That's not much time, David. Since you just this moment finalized terms I haven't even finished writing the contract!"
D: "Remember who you're talking to. I already took the latest copy off your desktop and changed the terms to reflect what I would settle for. I printed, signed with a notary, and had a courier bring it to your office about an hour ago. It's probably sitting on your secretaries desk. Now, get off your ass and take the contract to them. In order to encourage them Tell them I've got the same offer prepared for their competitors. If they don't sign it in the next hour I'm selling my software to their competitors. We both know whomever gets my algorithm will revolutionize the industry and leave the rest in the dust. Now Go!"
B: "You're a difficult man to work for, but you know I'll get it done."
D: "That's why I hired you. 58 Min remaining"
Switching to a new window:
//Filerun: Bugout.exe
Hitting enter the screen goes blank. With several unhealthy mechanical popping sounds the CPU begins to smoke slightly.
Thinking to himself again, "I can't sit through another dinner with my Mother. I'm leaving tonight."
Leaving a pre-written letter on the desk sealed with wax, David picks up a laptop bag and slings it over a shoulder.
Exiting the room in time to see Samuel send a runner with the note for the Matron Mother, David withdraws an envelope full of cash and hands it to Samuel. Samuel reaches for the envelope, but looks up when David doesn't release it. Making eye contact David says quietly to Samuel, "To the best of your knowledge I'm still in my office. You assume I've gotten caught up in my studies and lost track of time again. Understood?"
"Perfectly understood, sir."
With that David goes through the Butlers pantry and through the little-used servants hallway to a side entrance. Hailing and getting into a cab, David says to the Driver, "Airport. I'll give you an extra hundred if we make it there in 30 min."
...
-I'm leaning heavily towards taking improved familiar next level. The familiar will have the same name though to keep with the theme. Also to keep with the theme I'm thinking of having a Homonculus (possibly with improvements). We'll see how things play out.
-I took the Spell Finess feat so my Cleric spells will be based off of Int. However, I built this with Hero builder and the below does not reflect that yet. I'll have to make the adjustments manually unless I can figure out how to give myself a spell casting only Wisdom bonus within Herobuilder.
-I still need to pick spells and gear, though that's more to finish up the character and may take some time. I wanted to present what I had and if I get picked I'll flesh out the character more.
-David is from a noble family of Drow. This is in the Modern world so it's a bit different, but like any other Drow they are petty and backstabbing (Alternately if Modern Drow aren't all trying to kill each other He just gets tired of the petty power plays that i'm sure even real life nobles do). Frankly these stupid little games annoy him greatly. He's not interested in playing them or having to perpetually watch his back. So, he decided he had to get out from under his family. Knowing that they'd use their wealth as leverage and being a mathematical and programming prodigy, he created a few very useful programs and sold them to the highest bidder. For this reason In the modern world he's very independently wealthy and left his family remorselessly and made his own way in the world. (Insert relevant plot points that connect him to the current party. I'll need to know more about those who are chosen to fill this part in.)
He made some non-Drow friends, had some laughs, and sometime later he was pulled into a Inter-dimensional vortex. That was a most interesting Tuesday.
In the Golariaon (or whatever world we're in) David quickly discovered magic and became obsessed. As it turns out Magic used many of the same principle as programming. Also, everything is based on math. He discovered it was much like playing with the code of physics and never has he felt more alive!

Oh—how modern is this world? I was going with "alchemical high-tech fantasy radioactive sewer" in my character's backstory, but it could fit just as well as "actual radioactive sewer"
I wasn't really clear on that either. I imagined it as a mirror copy of our current world, but with different intelligent humanoid species. Kind of a Shadow run-ish vibe to it.
My backstory leaves plenty of wriggle room to fit within whatever genre the DM decides is correct.

Originally, we were in a more or less modern world from an alternate Earth around 2016. Then we were transported to a more LotR type world which was probably a few hundred years earlier or something.

Moneez |

You forgot mine :)
Mine was upthread, by ...
My submission is missing :( ???
Umm i think my post got eaten, here is a rehash if its not too late
This is Gobo Horde, i am changing my submission from a dwarven crafter to a goblin feral gnasher barbarian
When the packs get too big or too brave, the locals will load up their weapons and "thin the herd" till its a more manageable size.
Moneez knew none of this, instead, his small world consisted of a small pit where he was forced to eat other creatures while a crowd of onlookers watched. He knew little about the reason why, except for a few words; "cockfight" and "illegal" and "money".
The first ment food. Cause every time they said it, he was fed another creature that he got to eat. He was pretty sure the second one was a bad man, his masters were sure scared of him, thats for sure! And of course he was Money, for money ment greens and goblins were green!
One day, when he went out to eat at the sound of the dinner bell, he found out that his dinner had a bigger bite than him! And he was quicker! Before he knew it, Moneez was bit in half, and sure he was dead.
Yet he woke up. Aching and sore all over, Moneez found himself on the hard ground near some trees. Confuzed, he started counting his scars, a sure way to make sure he was in one piece!
One, two, plate, four, spoon, tree... Fifteen!! yup, he was ok he thought proudly, but wait! There wa a ring of old scars ringing his body that were not there before...
Well nothing he could do about that now, instead he decided to explore his new life, set on making his life better than it was before.
Moneez is a decidedly neutral goblin, a slave to the illegal underground fighting rings of today. When he mysteriously gets sent back in time he finds himself free for the first time.
He is uneducated, but not stupid and is drinking up his new world like a sponge. Moneez is a collector (read kleptomaniac), never knowing what you might need, so bring it all! He distrusts technology as that was what held him captive in the past life but he doesnt realize the difference between technology and magic, both are beyond his comprehension. He is ok with potions tho!
What, this? This is super water! Its like gatorade and makes you grow bigger, Stoopid!
I think it would be a great challenge to try and have a goblin survive up to the high 40s! I think it would be great fun for sure :) and i would be more of a light hearted addition to the group :)
He is mostly done except for equipment and skills, but it shouldnt take me much more time to finish things.

I've been checking like a crackhead looking for a fix. :-)
Same here. Mind flayers and doppelgangers are my all time favorite monsters, and psion by far my favorite class. There isn't to many opportunities you get to play a mind flayer so this would be like a dream come true for me lol.

Ha! Awesome

Everyone's so impatient or just really excited to use 3rd party stuff, it's not often you see a game where anything goes.
I'll probably be watching this one even if my last minute sub doesn't get picked.
That's the thing, you don't get a chance that often, so its easy to get excited when you do. I dont usually use 3p material myself because it often seems to lack balance, but DSP has done a pretty remarkable job, and I love psionic to much to leave them out.

I've actually been telling people for years that I want to play in or run an entirely-mindflayer campaign, but it never goes anywhere since it's hard to get enough interest. Maybe someday when I have a better understanding of the tools that work well for PbP I'll try to GM one here.

It's difficult to get into the alien mindset of the mind flayers. They're not just evil, they're almost a hive mind though not quite.
I'd be up for the challenge, though I don't know what class I'd want to play. Caster probably with some heavily muscled mind slaves to act as meat shields.

Okay after some careful looking I have decided the additional party members who shall be joining us on this quest. It was a hard decision since I was only willing to take up to 4 new party members so not all of the interesting characters I saw could play.
Here in no particular order.
Gnome Sorcerer 3/Summoner 4 / Edward Sobel
Male Drow, Noble Cleric of Nethys 1/Mystic Theurge 3/Wizard 2 / Tiny Coffee Golem
Were-Snow Leopard Human Gladiator 1/Pious Sentinel 3/Child of Bast 3 / thunderbeard
Goblin Barbarian 8 / Gobo Horrde
For those who didn't get picked I wish you the best of luck and if anyone drops out again I will PM you if you want. For those who did get in please finish up anything not done with your character and dot this thread to get the campaign into your profile.
