Recruitment: Planescape using Pathfinder

"Listen cutter, don't you go calling us heroes now. Heroes are the kind of addle-coved berks who go off getting their names writ in the dead book over some other beings problem. We're adventurers, see?"

I want to run a game of Planescape centered on a small group of adventurers operating out of Sigil. The tone would involve a lot of the ironic black humor characteristic of the setting and I'm looking for PCs who are less heroic and more opportunistic. Good alignments are fine, but you need to be able to work well with others who do not share your morals and ethics.

This is going to be a very character-driven game so you'll need a character that is interesting on their own, independent of any plotline. You'll want a character who will be fun to roleplay and especially write dialogue for because that's most of what you'll be doing. You'll want to be capable of fighting when it comes to that, but combat will be rare (for a Pathfinder game, at least).

I'm looking for complex characters. If you can give a pretty decent description of your character by listing your race and class then I'm not interested. That doesn't mean just be different for it's own sake; be interesting. The kinds of people who become freelance adventurers usually do so because they don't fit into normal society (or what passes for normal society for their species) and I want to know why. You can play a member of a species that is "always" a certain alignment with a different (even opposite) alignment if you want (making your character an extreme outcast among their kind). A lot of DMs get upset and start ranting about Drizzt and special snowflakes when players make outside-the-species-box PCs; I am not one of those DMs.

Don't bother generating game statistics at first; I won't read them until I have assembled a group anyway. I'm only interesting in your character, not your sheet. I want everyone to have their characters firmly in mind as characters before pencil touches paper.

Part of the "setting" will be AD&D 2nd edition (since I don't like altering settings to fit rules), so I'm going to be restatting certain Pathfinder things (mostly monsters) so they fit better with their 2nd edition portrayal. So, for example, be prepared for things that legitimately cannot be hurt without magic weapons. None of this will be anything players have to keep track of (except in the sense of cataloging the weaknesses of your enemies).

Character Creation:
Level 8, Any core class except monks, Any core races, any of the half-outsider featured races (Teiflings and Ifrit et al) and you can even use CR as level for the purposes of making monstrous PCs (Outsiders only). Also stick to outsider types that were present in 2nd edition AD&D (feel free to ask me which ones). I'm also willing to look for or even create conversions of D&D specific outsiders without existent official Pathfinder versions. If you really want to play a Modron I'm sure we can make that work.

Humans and demi-humans can't take levels in any spontaneous arcane spellcasting class (since it's still 2nd edition so the way humans learn the Art is through memorization). If you're playing an outsider with spell-like abilities then you can take sorcerer levels as normal.

If you're playing a prime (a character from the prime material plane, aka a non-native) then you can be from any TSR-era D&D setting (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms (and greater Toril), Mystara, etc etc etc.) If you're an outsider you can be from any plane which has native outsiders of your type. Finally, any character can be a native of Sigil.

I will point out again not to stat your character until recruitment is closed because I will flatly not read any stat blocks until that time. I'm only providing this information in my opening post so people know what power level of outsiders are allowed.

I will consider allowing non-core classes on a case-by-case basis after the characters have been selected, but assume you'll have to be able to make your character using only core classes.

For Those Familiar with Planescape:
This is 2nd edition Planescape. The Faction War never happened. Die Vecna, Die never happened. No metaplot, no update, just baseline boxed-set Planescape.

For Those Unfamiliar with Planescape:
The setting is highly detailed and there is a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it. I'm happy to provide any relevant information on-the-fly to allow those unfamiliar with the setting to fully participate. Just let me know so I know.

It is currently Thursday at 1:40 p.m.. I will have open recruitment until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at which point I will select a party of three PCs. If you're interested in playing post a character idea and at least an overview of a backstory. You don't need to give me a complete narrative; just the sizzle is fine.

AD&D feel with Pathfinder rules?
I never played AD&D but I would have loved to.
I played Planescape:Torment and that's where my whole knowledge about the setting comes from.

Are Arbiters (the lowliest of the Inevitables) available in the setting? I would love to roleplay this little lawful automaton who had a short-circuit or something, and actually started to think using different path-ways. Due to him having questioned orders from superiors with the "why?" question, he had to flee so he wouldn't be caught and re-programmed. Think about the films "A.I." and "bicentennial man".
I envision him as an explorer-at-heart, he wants to see what the multiverse has to offer, and examine everything thoroughfully, trying to find a sense into what his superiors always called "chaos".

Mechanically, this would be a rogue/pathfinder chronicler, and the race would be arbiter (or any other appropriate lawful outsider/construct).
Alignment true neutral!

Quote:

If you could have familiarity with only one source of Planescape lore, that's probably the best one.

Quote:

Arbiters I think are new, and from the looks of them they're an attempt at a Pathfinder version of Modrons. If you want to play something virtually identical but much more in-setting you could play a Modron instead.

There's no official Pathfinder version but that's hardly an obstacle, we could make one to specifically suit your character.

I have stats for the cube Modrons! ^_^

EDIT: 3.5 Modron, but still!

That's ok for me! I liked that little Nordom... However my idea is not so extreme as to make the character chaotic. He's simply a neutral observer, if a pedantic one...
I just found this link, it's 3.0 but at least it's closer to PF than, say, AD&D. Hope it helps.
http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20010921a

EDIT:
Thanks Red Velvet!
I think a cube modron, with his average intellect, would be perfect actually. Having 4 arms might be useful in lock-picking and general item searching (I know I would like to have more arms while searching for my keys...)

You want me to provide the stats?

Also GM, are there any Factions we cannot join?

I have the same limited background Krinn has, and it's been a few years since I last played Torment, but I'm still quite interested.

How about a nobody turned sensate? Human. Not sure about class yet.

Spoiler:

Jephik looked over at the woman in his lean-to with a scowl. Having a Dusty for a girlfriend seemed nice at the start. He went over her good traits in his mind: she wasn't hard to look at, had low expectations, a healthy dose of ennui, and she never cared if he was out all night or spent all his jink on razorwine.

He'd thought this was the life. Thought he was content until about a week ago. He'd been heading back home from his shift bouncing at the dice hall when he saw one of those sensate loons light himself ablaze in the middle of the street for the fun of it. Jephik had seen plenty of berks die, but not like this. The old man sat there in the street quiet as can be, like the flames crawling over him weren't a bother at all. His eyes, though, they weren't quiet at all. They were fierce, hungry, alive. Until they weren't anymore.

That hunger was palpable. It was real. It made Jephik hungry. Since then he doesn't look at things the same way. He notices things. People. Things he used to not even be aware enough of to ignore.

He puts his hand on his knee and notices it's been shaking again. Legs wont keep still anymore. Things are about to change.

Red Velvet Tiger wrote:

If the GM is okay with those stats, I'm okay with anything. Medium sized is easier to play anyway and Modrons are tons of fun, for what I just read in the web enhancement.

Not sure on the Faction thing, but I guess Sensates would make the most sense for an explorer who likes to experiment everything.

EDIT
I fully intend to make the Modron interact in a very "artificial" way of thinking, with loopholes, if/then, "subroutines" and other fun stuff. He is easy to mislead...

"Hey, what do you think there might be under that dragon claw?"

[Processing]
"We don't know"
[Initialize Curiosity subroutine]
"We'll find the answer to that question in twenty-three seconds"[Initialize Search subroutine]
...
[Critical Interrupt - Initialize RUN subroutine NOW]
"We're afraid to report that no answer can be found for the time being. Now please, tell the dragon that he should continue his sleep and not try to eat us, Modrons aren't made of any draconic specific nutrients!"

Quote:
You want me to provide the stats?

I'd love to have a look but I can't promise that's what I'll use.

Quote:

Nope, but if you want to be a member of a faction I want it believable. I don't want them treated like second classes where everyone feels like they have to just pick one to have one. Which leads me to...

Quote:
Not sure on the Faction thing, but I guess Sensates

If you have to guess, you shouldn't join a faction. Being a member of a faction means you believe in something pretty fundamental. It's like a religion crossed with a political party. It's not something you pick a closest guess for just to have one.

Anyone who joins a faction is going to have responsibilities. Perhaps inconvenient ones. Even the Xaositekszxc or whatever they're calling themselves this conversation. It's a serious commitment.

That said, you can join any of them and they're cool. But make sure it's something you really want to explore.

I just reread the factions summary, I just remembered a couple and so I was not sure if the Sensates were the most appropriate.
Given what I wrote in my first post

Quote:
I envision him as an explorer-at-heart, he wants to see what the multiverse has to offer, and examine everything thoroughfully, trying to find a sense into what his superiors always called "chaos".

I really think that's the embodiment of the Sensates' phylosophy. The little Modron might not have had a chance to join the faction already, but I'd like him to at least have a goal to ultimately be let in. Perhaps the Sensates gave him a quest of finding 5 important experiences (one for each sense), and those he brought to scrutiny already were not enoguh.

This would be yet another reason for him to become an adventurer.

Greetings.
We are the Modron Wanar.
Hierarch Modrons have a habit to call those like us who do not directly follow their orders "Rogue Modrons". We do not see their reasoning as the truth, for without comprehension, there cannot be real truth, and Hierarchs too often fail to understand the underlying reasons for any diversity and just issue orders.
Therefore, we claim that we are not a rogue. Assessing self-awareness is important if we wish to truly be aware of what happens outside of ourselves. Instead of endlessly claiming our nature like a mantra, we chose to give ourselves a short acronym, so that anyone who calls us with our name will reinforce our very existence.
We are the Modron Wanar, for we are not a Rogue.

Funnily enough, Wanar will have levels in the rogue class.

I'd like to play a Psionicist from the Dark Sun setting, but my character could be one of the wizard classes. An alternative is an Ali Baba type rogue exceptionally skilled in Use Magic Device. My PC is on a quest to learn the true name of a Djinni - any Djinni - and capture it. Of course, one can't advertise this kind of quest in a place like Sigil and expect to live very long; therefore, my PC must be a master of misdirection in regards to his purpose and motives.

I can't say exactly what drives my PC to want a Djinni; certainly not fame, fortune, or power. Not even the desire for wishes, really. You might think revenge, except he is not looking for any particular Djinni. Maybe it is an "I Dream of Genie" type fantasy.

I actually don't know much about Planescape, or Dark Sun either. I will have to read up on this faction thing, but my first guess is that my character would be too independent to form any permanent alliances. He is an opportunist, and will join any group on any mission that might lead him further along his quest.

As for alignment, he is lawful in that he holds to a mercenary code of conduct; not lawful in that local laws mean nothing when they hinder fulfillment of a contract. Should the contractor breach....

EDIT: A two minute glance at the Players Guide suggests that my PC is an Outsider.

Dot : )

I'm not terribly familiar with planescape, but the glimpses I've caught from Planescape Torment & BG II is enough for me to know I want to give this a shot!

I'll have to start pondering on a concept right away!

Edit: Considering the setting, and the opportunity presented, I'd probably wouldn't mind rolling up one of the aligned outsiders - Am I correct to assume my PCs alignment doesn't necessary need to line up with the base creature? (ie, I could play a good succubus, like Whats-Her-Name the succubus cleric from Torment? [will probably not go that exact route however!])

Fall-from-Grace :)

That's it all right!

Was thinking something similar, but I couldn't figure out why she would be called that when she actually - well - got into Grace... : )

I love planescape. Allow my character submission to speak for himself:

About Bronan:

Whadda ya want from me berk? My life story? All right then, but listen good, cause I'm only telling you once. No mimir here. I was born (or so I was told) on some backwater prime. The reason I had to be told, mind, is when I was just a babe, a score of tentacle head mindnicks come round and grab the lot of us. 'Cording to my ma and da were Thains or some such and they put up a fight. Not that it did them any good. Their names are in the book for their troubles.

Anywho, where was I? Growing up in the mines. It stunk. Back breaking, bone tearing labor. But as a wise man once said, If they don't kill you, then you'll be strong enough to kill them back. That's how I became the rorty basher you see before you. But all the muscle in the planes ain't nothing when they got your brain in a birdcage. But that brings me to my second virtue. When the chips are down, I always seem to come up trumps. See, one day a troupe of yellow skins with their flashy silver pig stickers show up. Now if you know anything about the gith, you know that they've been running a black one against the flayers for a turn or three. Well, they sliced and diced em into calamari quick, then turned their attentions to yours truly. Now, the other you got to know about the gith, they ain't in the business of charity. So away I was from birdcage to the next.

Now this particular bunch of gith had some kind of rule o' sevens about keeping slaves, on account of their founder's circumstances. But they've got no objections to jink it seemed, so they dumped me and the rest to some 'loth for a pile o' gelt and were on their merry way. Now heres the rub. Most poor sods in the blood war are there because they got themselves skinned. Their own damned fault if you get my drift. Me, I was slippery goods, never signed nothing. Not that the 'loth figured it would matter, we were fodder irregulars with the life expectancy of a void mephit. 'Cept it didn't go down like they planned. I told you I was lucky. We won. Only two greens and the fhorge was clear to Elysium. And the 'loth, he's jangled six ways from Vita. So we keep fighting, and we keep winning. And I gets to thinking (cause that ain't a spire climb no more without the flayers in my head) that maybe there's better lots if I can get out o' this outfit. And I don't mean as a deader. So I waited until the fighting got thick. Real bloody. Then I diced a blitz through a gate. See, now unlike all those other sodding berks on the fields of Baator, I wasn't contracted. They've got no hooks on me. Way I see it, I'm in the free and clear till they dead-book me. Not that I'm going to make it easy for em.

Been scrabbling the cage ever since. The jink ain't the best, but hey, there's worse places to be. Hooked up with the Sinkers. From the bloody dung heaps I've seen, they've got things figured right proper. Good cutters though. The 'verse might be going to the chaosmen in a handbasket, but at least you've got someone to watch your back and try the taps with as the city burns. Now you may think I'm spinning slaad-stories over here for my own amusement, but as The Lady is my witness, the whole thing's lily.

Arise ye character from an AD&D campaign long ago

Lissom Goatal
Tiefling Warrior.
Lissom is a member of the Sign of One, with his own personal interpretation of their philosophy (as does every other Sign of One member).
Lissom believes that he is the central character of a story (or possibly a game) about himself. He has a firm belief that he cannot die (or at least not permanently), as that would cause the story to end, but if he puts himself at unbelievable risk it ruins the story, so he does act with a modicum of sense.
His absolute belief in the power of plot leads him to be altogether too trusting, believing that if he is to be betrayed it will happen regardless of how suspicious he is, as it's to further the plot.

The class isn't so important, I can build him to fit any particular class, I do have a rather fondness of Tieflings though.

History:
Lissom was an orphan boy on the streets of Plague-Mort, recruited by Abyssal press-gangs into the Bloodwar.
Working his way into the press-ganger teams themselves, Lissom recruited many tieflings and other degenerates into the Abyssal ranks.
Eventually after a number of years, he realised that no-one was watching and simply wandered off. He spent a time wandering the planes before finding his way (as many often do) in Sigil.

Lissom's mind was perhaps a little broken by working for fiends and the way he wandered and ended up were he wanted to go anyway gave him a great deal of belief in himself. Over the years this has adjusted to his current self-as centre of the universe belief.

Are psionics an option?

Now what's the berk posted here, some et about life on the spike a,
I know a blood who would see chink in this, old brainbox is a thinking.
May have to put some cutters in the book, and no Lemmon but that's life.

PC idea
Thinking plane touched celestial
Cleric/healer with a bit of medic skills monkey
LN or NG GMs call.
she's a street healer, come dentist.

Arura Blake-kipples

Back story,
one of 4 triplets [Ye a know right but it's the spike] she was fostered into a home go a gnome healer, living and growing in the chemists lab. She spent a lot of her time out delivering and leaning the true. Now a teen she's struck out on her own but keeps close linked to her gnome faster family and 3 siblings.

As a person she's away up beat, some of that gnome rubbed off, off thing is she's got wings but can't fly. Golden eyes and she's tall, she's street smart so don't think that jolly blood makes her all goody goody, she will cut ya if you get on her dark side.

Dot. If we decide to make an outsider pc can we change the feats listed in the monster stat block?

I'm considering a Mephit character - Ice Mephit to be specific. But sadly, nothing is concrete yet : )

Lessah: In planescape, sending mephits is sometimes used as a means of communication. When you send someone an Ice Mephit, you are telling them to stay away from your house.

Quote:

Exactly. You can be an evil Angel or a good demon or a lawful slaad or whatever.

Quote:
Are psionics an option?

They were in AD&D, so sure.

Quote:

Most definitely. You can roll HP too if you want (or just keep the average).

Quote:
I'd like to play a Psionicist from the Dark Sun setting

Normally Arthas is cut off from the rest of the multiverse, in both Planescape and Spelljammer, so while I'm not necessarily against someone from Dark Sun you'd need a backstory with some weird ass s!%& going on that explains how you got out of that particular crystal sphere. Dark Sun isn't a place you WHOOPS your way free of.

Edit: That reminds me, Spelljammer exists too. I highly doubt any Spelljamming will occur in the campaign (you never know...) but it can be part of backstories.

Don't take this as a discouragement of the idea, just pointing out what you'll need for it to fit in my fussy little faux AD&D universe.

Quote:

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective. She's a demoness and has a demon's name. From the perspective of the demons she did, indeed, fall from grace. Her name might be inappropriate for a reformed evil human, but it fits a good succubus perfectly.

For a CR appropriate creature acting as a PC would the CR limit be 8 since the characters are starting at level 8?

@Bronan: I did not know that! I'll just have to make sure he/she got ways to get that message across then ^^

@Fall-from-Grace name: True, but the the abyss is usually downstairs. Falling upward from the lower planes always seems funky to me :P

Other ideas I've been toying with are Shadow Demons. They are fun, and I think I could do a decent hissy old demon free from war, now hanging out in bars. Of course, being incorporeal he would be unable to enjoy the goods and as such mainly annoy people instead. But I'm not sure an incorporeal PC is worth the hassle.

And I've always wanted a Lillend : )

Jah.

That's why it's an ironic metaphor :P

PC
Cecidit Filia an Baatezu, Erinyes.

Background

I have fought in the blood war long and hard and in all that time I have never questioned my overlords, but recent actions have changed my mind. I have seen the great waste that is going on in these wars as all seek power and prestige instead of wanting the destruction of Tanar'ri. The fools still follow the old rules and hierarchy as if they mean anything. I shall gain the power needed to take over the Baatezu, and finally end this war for good, but I shall not be able to gain the power here. The blood war is to much a way of our life for any to accept my decision. They will all think me power hungry instead of wanting to finally end this war so that we can focus upon our real problems. I shall travel across the land until I find others who can aid me while I grow in power. I will return to the blood war one day and when I do both sides shall feel my wrath, but only the Baatezu will survive it. This is my oath as one of the Furies that I will succeed in my quest.

I'd still like to play a Psion, doesn't have to be from the Dark Sun. IIRC, Psionics exists in Eberron, too. Hold while I verify...

Hmmm... A 30 second web survey suggests that Psionics exists in 3rd edition Eberron. I will have to delve deeper....

According to this page psionics did exist in 2nd edtion outside of the Dark Sun setting. Not sure if that helps, but I hope it does.

I loved Planescape: Torment, and have always wanted to play a Planescape campaign.

Character concept:

Name: Ofir of the Opaline Vault
Race: Oread (half Shaitan genie/half human)
Alignment: True Neutral
Class: Spellsword/Eldrich Knight(Fighter 1/Wizard (Transmuter) 5/EK 2)

Basic Backstory (to be fleshed out if chosen):

The bastard son of his Shaitan father's relationship with a human slave girl, Ofir was raised to be a guard for one of his father's caravans of precious gemstones mined from the Plane of Earth. Ofir was a respected member of the caravan, and all was well until a trip to the Elemental Plane of Air to trade gems with the Djinn in exchange for a mystical book of knowledge.

During the trade, Ofir laid eyes on the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. A djinn girl, the daughter of the Noble Djinn buyer. Ofir tried to talk to her, and she flirted with him sweetly, but let him know that she only had eyes for other Djinn. Ofir, however, stubborn as the stone coursing through his blood, was not dissuaded. He determined then and there that he would win her hand, and to do so, he needed to be a Djinn.

After the sale was done and the caravan was traveling between planes, Ofir stole the book of knowledge, abandoned the only family he had ever known, and fled to Sigil. He studied the book, sold it and bought more magical texts, all in a quest to find some way that he could change himself into his true love's desire.

Ofir now sells his services as a mercenary spellsword to the highest bidder, both in Sigil and for trips to the various planes, all to pay for his research. He has not seen his true love since that fateful day three year ago, but pines for her still.

Will Ofir ever succeed in becoming a Djinn?
Are there things more important than this dream, or will he pay any price to achieve it?
Will he ever be happy with who he is?
Will he ultimately realize that while he can change his body, he can't change his nature?

Eberron is a 3rd edition setting; it's the winner of the create a setting contest.

I've always assumed there are an infinite variety of other prime worlds. You don't have to confine yourself to published ones.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Never did more than skim through the Setting Books when Planescape initially came out.

Interesting idea, will have to consider. Am I correct in concluding that races/classes which have no close approximation in the original campaign will not be allowed? I.E. Changelings/Alchemists, etc...

edit: Am I further correct in guessing that neither Halflings nor Dwarves will be allowed to take levels in any arcane casting class?

You can use Eberron when you run Planescape; I'm limiting the game to settings that existing during AD&D. Eberron is everything about third edition that I'm trying to avoid.

Looks like you never did more than skim my recruitment post either:

Hey, look, if you don't want me to make jokes at your expense don't set me up like that. I'm only human.

Hmmm... I have a few ideas that could prove... interesting

Cute as a button Tiefling child with psionics powers as out of control as her temper and her multiple personalities. A staunch member of the Xaositects, because she likes all the fluffy, colorful chaos, as well as some of the random dismemberings that occur sometimes at Faction meetings! 'Chaos is soooooooo cool! It's all shiny and happy and fluffy and... why are you looking at me like that, berk? Keep it up and I'll TEAR YOUR SODDING EYES OUT AND FEED THEM TO THE TANAR'RI! Now, how would you like some tea? Nothing like some warm tea amongst friends!'.

Highly intelligent but utterly humorless Zenythri member of the Fraternity of Order. Speaks of everything in the terms of law and logic. Although considered something of a running joke in Sigil, he is something of a visionary. He once convinced a Slaad to go through a gate to the Far Realm. What came out of the portal resembled the Slaad, but was a creature of pure order. When asked how that happened, he simply replies 'Mathematical principles apply to all things. Two negatives multiplied together equate to a positive. Simple fact, berk. Perhaps you would benefit from brushing up on your reading?'.

Shameless Aasimar woman who runs A Taste of Heaven, a high end tavern and brothel serving clientele whose tastes run to the celestial. She is charming and pleasant, but utterly without scruples and often insinuates subtle innuendos into every conversation. She is almost never seen without her chubby pet Imp, whom she dresses up and calls her little 'Schmoopie-Whoopie'. She is a Sensate through and through, once even taking a commission from a group of Kyton tourists. As she likes to say, 'There isn't anything in this life that should not be experienced, berk. Why were we given these forms in the first place, that can experience all these things, otherwise? Speaking of forms... what are you doing tonight, sugar? I know you have to represent the Demodands at that function tonight, but you DESERVE to treat yourself. I'll even give you a discount because of how handsome you are, Ambassador Slimeroll!'.

Bipolar Githyanki that is part of the Bleakers. Always dresses in black and writes what she thinks is masterful poetry (It's all rubbish!). She wears a LOT of makeup and sports dozens of piercings. Sometimes called 'The Gothyanki' by people throughout Sigil. One should beware through, because her shrill tirades and enchanted lute-tar can send thunderous shockwaves of sonic energy through the air whenever she gets in a mood. 'Like those Dead guys, I totally get them, man. But like, who cares, because none of it has any meaning. It makes me, like seriously need to play my lute-tar, to sooth my soul, because it's like deeper and darker than... the deepest and darkest thing you can think of. Let me read you some poetry berk, it'll totally open your eyes to things!'.

Red Velvet Tiger, you've inspired me to put in a second submission:

Nook:

Nook is a hyperactive little ball of light. For millenia, it worked tirelessly on one of the lower slopes of Mount Celestia, herding petitioners and answering their questions about the afterlife. Now, an ordinary archon would be content with this, but something was slightly wrong with Nook. A lack of impulse control often left the ball of light making poorly thought out decisions. While its fellows ascended to hound hood or better, this defect and the periodic debacles it kept getting it into kept it unchanged throughout his time.

One day, its erratic nature induced the little archon to fly through a shimmering portal, something utterly forbidden to its kind. It found itself in a city, Sigil in fact. The place resonated with the archon in a way it had never felt before. Unlike the the unending bliss of its home, this place had a rhythm. Curiosity getting the better of Nook, and it flew around, exploring this new and interesting place. It wasn't long (in fact, they did it immediately, without thinking) before Nook was recruited into the Transcendent Order. Without need for sustenance or coin, Nook now spends his years wandering Sigil, going where his whims take him and happier than ever.

Bronan, maybe you could replace the Imp? ^_^

While I'm not entirely opposed to the idea, dressing up an intangible ball of energy seems impractical.

We could put a ribbon on it! Or drape a tiny cape around it and put a tiny hat on it! ^_^

After some pondering I've realized I might be in over my head should I join another pbp at this time. And there seems to be plenty of good submissions already ^^

Good luck and have fun!

Aaand I miss my own deadline. But I'm the DM so who's going to call me on it? Nobody, that's who.

I wish I could take more players since there's so much interest, but I really shouldn't be running another game in the first place and promised myself I'd keep it small so I'm going to still limit myself to three. I couldn't give sufficient attention to more PCs anyway. There were a lot of great characters so I used posting a lot in this thread as a tie-breaker.

The PCs will be Cecidit Filia an Baatezu, Bronan and the unnamed Shameless Aasimar woman who runs A Taste of Heaven.

Thanks to everyone who submitted.

The three chosen players can start working up stats and fleshing out backstories. Feel free to ask my any questions, I'm sure you all know the drill.

Yay! ^_^

What classes are allowed?

Consider this: the group is a debauched Aasimar, a hyperactive and probably irreverent Lantern Archon, and an Erinyes, who in old D&D were listed as fallen celestials! Coincidence or design lol?

EDIT: I meant what class ARCHETYPES are allowed!

Pretty much whatever, I'm easy. Please just don't take advantage of my laissez-faire DMing style to make stupid power builds from 4chan. Anyway, you sound like you know what you're doing.

I like that your character owns a brothel, that gives you a nice weird base of operations. How does this sound to you: you can own the property without spending any starting gold on it, but you borrowed a lot of money from some unsavory individuals to buy it and that's why you have to go adventuring with your two unrefined associates. You need to raise money to keep up with the payments.

Actually I went with his other character, the sort of Sigil-cockney Odysseus, representative as he is of mortals.

But your suspicions are utterly unfounded.

I should also point out that, instead of DR 5/Good, the Erinyes can only be damaged by magic or magic weapons. Don't worry though, most of your enemies will have those so you're fine.

With this in mind, everyone else should seriously consider buying a magic weapon of some description. If only so you can't be bullied by Cicidit.

Either that or she's simply indulging her nature as a Sensate and the money generated by the brothel is what pays off the debtors. I would imagine that sort of establishment would generate a LOT of gold, especially with some pervy Tieflings around! ^_^ And ah, my mistake lol!

I should have something up by tomorrow.

Thank you for picking me. I will have an alias up sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Cool. So now the usual questions:

How do you want to do ability scores?
Traits?
You said level 8? Average Wealth?

Perhaps you could make a discussion thread.

You insult me sir. I assure you, all of my stupid power builds are entirely original. ;-)

You can either roll or use 20 point buy. If you're using a CR creature you have to stick with those stats (although you can do level-up stat boosts normally).

Yep, yep, yep.

We can discuss threads here until the gameplay thread goes up.

Mechanics
Going to focus on fighting up close and personal, preferred weapons will be some combination of armor spikes, cestus or boulder helmet
I’m thinking either Fighter 6 / Horizon Walker 2
GM, Would you consider DR 6/- to be too unbalancing?

Fluff
Red Velvet Tiger, My Suggestion on how we met:

Bronan and a couple of his Doomguard cronies got it in their brain boxes that it was time to burn down the Aasimar’s establishment. Not being completely heartless, it was Bronan’s intention to kick in the front door and loudly declare his intention first so the patrons would have a chance to flee. As fate would have it, the tavern was in the middle of (a robbery in progress/dissatisfied customer threatening the staff/tax shakedown by the Takers/etc). Belligerent natures collided and a fight broke out. In the aftermath, she offered him a drink and they got to talking. Unwilling to give up on destroying the Taste of Heaven, the owner convinces the dwarf that she be allowed a cycle to get her affairs in order, and that he should return next peak to finish the job. Each time he returns, the Aasimar comes up with a new reason why the destruction should be delayed. This has been going on for years nows.
