DM Frogfoot |
Hi all, I'm Frogfoot. I'm currently DMing a Dungeon World campaign on these boards, titled "A Stitch in Time Saves Everyone". I've been loving the system and its simple rules and emphasis on storytelling, but I have the itch to be a player too.
I know this is a long shot - these boards aren't even about Dungeon World - but if someone would be willing to DM a campaign for me, or let me join one that's running, you can be assured I'd be an active, interesting player who keeps you on your toes as only a former GM could.
I should note that I had only played DW once in a one-shot IRL campaign before starting up DMing one. DMing DW is really quite easy - the DM never has to roll any dice, monster and loot management is really intuitive, and you have lots of options to screw with your players in really fun ways.
Basically the way it works is this: it's a 2d6 based system rather than 1d20. You have the stats that all PnP RPGs have - Str/Dex/Con/Wis/Int/Cha - and they give you a -2 to +3 bonus on your 2d6 roll.
On a 10+ you succeed at whatever you set out to do, with few consequences - though on an attack roll for example, you can add extra damage at the cost of extra risk of retaliation from the DM.
On a 7-9 you get a partial success - you basically achieve what you set out to do, but there's a snag or complication that happens that is up to the GM's whim.
On a 6-, you earn an XP and fail whatever you set out to do.
Anyway, that's the system in a nutshell, everything is built around that and making tough choices in the fiction. Message me if you've got any questions.
In case you're curious about my DW campaign so far, you're welcome to read it here.

Hey Frogfoot, I've been toying with the idea of GMing a Dungeon World campaign. I wouldn't be able to for atleast a few weeks, but I've been pondering the possibility of a pirate themed game.
Would you still be interested in such a setting? Likewise, are there others that might be interested as well?

The more I think about it, the more I'd like to do it. I'll get a recruitment thread up on Friday and see if I can garner interest from a couple others. I have a friend who will be joining us, and Aubster if you're still interested as well.
I won't be able to start the game for at least another week, but if we have the players there's a lot of discussion beforehand about what connects you - as well as several questions I would like to ask in order to shape the first adventure.
Would you like to lay claim to any specific class, Aubster, as there may only be one of each to begin with. In addition to the core classes (which would need a little re-flavoring to be more 'pirate-y') I also have access to some other classes:
- The Alchemist, who drinks potions and breathes liquid flame.
- The Avatar, INCOMPLETE who calls their god into them and smites unbelievers.
- The Barbarian, who is loud and wild in everything he does.
- The Bombardier, who blows stuff up with slightly more precision than the average maniac.
- The Brute, who smashes puny things and swings people.
- The Dashing Hero, who does impressive things and looks smashing doing them.
- The Fanatic, who turns people and mobs into weapons.
- The Gallant, who pursues justice and inspires hope.
- The Pirate, who makes everything explode and insults people
- The Princess, who optimistically weilds femininity, power, and grace.
- The Reefmonger, INCOMPLETE who summons eldritch nightmares at the cost of their sanity.
- The Witch Doctor, who guides spirits by devouring their corpses
That gives a lot of choices, but the 3rd party options naturally have much more pirate flavor than the core. You'll notice, as well, that 2 are incomplete--the creator only has initial moves and setup, no advanced moves as of yet.
I'm also open to other 3rd party classes, just don't have access to them myself.

Helping someone new to the format along isn't a problem for me at all. I've started a recruitment thread for it, but had already closed it with the 5 we have. I didn't mention anything here, so why don't you head over and joing the conversation. If someone drops we'll have 5 players, if not then I'll work with 6 :)
Here's the recruitment thread: Link

And with that, I'm locking it down.
Oops, Captain Fremont ninja'd me. Well played. More than 6 would be a bit much for me to keep track of. But if you don't mind I'll keep you on an available list if we need spots filled. Someone that knows the system is perfect for jumping in should we find the need.
