I start this thread foreseeing incoming flow of not so serious comments and vague complaints of dedicated voters.
I'll start with noting that the fourth item I saw was veiled spell in a can. It was... Quick.
More spells-in-a-can. Decent in general but lacking that spark that would make them super star.
Oh, look. A joke item.
:|
Have I seen this one before?
Actually I think that last year we spread our voting joy between three or four threads...
Saw an item from last year. I think it was reworked though.
I saw a humorous item already but I liked it and it wasn't totally joke item.

Saw my item already. Huh.
And then for the first time two items I liked at the same time.

At least the kvetching might be somewhat contained this year. ;)
As long as people keep it classy.
Then a bad item against one that seemed to be intentionally mocking the advice threads. I had to vote for the bad one. Sigh.

3 votes in, and there's a 24-hour attunement period. Everybody, take a drink!

Lots of straight SIAC and SAK items. Also lots of very vanilla items, have not yet run into one I have saved, however, I have found many fewer joke and troll items so far.
It seems like there are many people attempting this for the first time. To that I say, "Awesome! Good on you for entering. Lets all get together after voting closes and do the item critique thread."
Good luck to everyone.

"I know what I can do... I'll fix that rule I disagree with by making an item that circumvents it! Brilliant!"

Have run into an item that should have been DQ'd twice now. Wasn't there a "report this item..." button last year?
Was there no auto wordcount DQ mechanism?
Honestly, the next anime-themed item I see...
/sigh

For every easy choice there are three pairings that involve difficult decisions. Maybe more.
So, is anyone else hitting the neutral button a bit more than they would like?

Mr. Whatever wrote: So, is anyone else hitting the neutral button a bit more than they would like? I've only done it once so far. I really try to find a tie-breaking element. It's more helpful in the long run.
Thanks, Drejk. I was just about to start one, but I'll go ahead and use yours.
The quality of writing, so far as I can tell from the first half dozen pairs, seems to have improved. Granted, the items in every pair were either SAK or SIAC, one cursed item, and one cellphone-disguised-as-a-wondrous-item, but they were easy to read and understand.
I think the neutral button is the mathematical equivalent to not voting. I've had several that are both very bad, but you should pick the better one anyway.
I did see a few items that were either first time entries who did not read any of the suggestions or were trying to break every suggestion possible while still being a Wondrous Item....

As I recall hitting the neither button puts them back into your voting queue for pairing and voting again. Might be the same this year.
Making a definite decision as to which of the two is better is better for ordering the items than registering a non vote. With a non vote, the system cannot determine if you didn't vote because both items were bad or both items were good.
Remember
You are voting on two items as to which is better, you are not saying either is the best or worst of the bunch - just those 2.
As pairs come up before other voters, those items consistently voted better than others will avoid the cull and bubble up to the judges view top 100. So be determined to say which of the two items is best of those two to ensure the best items get voted consistently.
One that has left me speechless!
The biggest issue, as always, is just a lack of excitement in the items.
No strong keeps so far, but a few weak keeps.
I've voted for no ties yet. There's always a difference, and even if I end up voting for the "less weak of two weak items", I figure they'll eventually come up against a good item and get ranked where they belong.
First monster-in-a-can...
Item that gives you an ability from another class...
Not too far in, the item that spends more time on it's backstory over what it does.
Edit: Also 2 things that aren't wondrous items now. They don't even use Craft Wondrous Item.
Trying to avoid the neutral button from now on.

Some folks are really eager to have their character be dead (or deadlike).
First modern item disguised as a magic item that's not a cellphone...
Yeah I am noticing a lot of that as well Adam.

Left, left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left, left.
My first few pairs were really hard to decide between, both were fairly good (not necessarily Superstar).
Kerney wrote: Andrew Marlowe wrote: One that has left me speechless! Is this a good thing, or bad? Maybe it's a silencing item and this is a clever pun!
Also, seen a few mythic items around. The first one was a bit blah, the second one was appropriately epic (or should I say mythic). Incredibly cinematic.

Oooh, that's a cool idea! Not executed in the best way, but still a cool idea.
Two-thirds of the word count used for description, ultimately leading to disappointment, because it was really decent description leading to a really bland magical effect.
I just saw an item that had a crafting price of a few thousand gp, and actual price of nearly 100.000 gp.

I'm noticing a definitely nonsmall number of alcohol-themed items.
Be careful not to provide too many specifics about a particular item you voted on. That's a no-no.
Just saw an item that might have been Superstar if it had been submitted back in 2009-2010.
One that was almost an entire paragraph of back story.
