Sample NPCs for the ACG Playtest

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is a collection of sample Level 1 non-player characters for the ACG Playtest. There is one for each class, and every npc is a different race. If this set is well received I'll finish up the Level 7 batch that I was working on. These NPCs use the classes as they were presented in the playtest document with comments regarding changes that were in the first post of the class threads.

I think your Kobold Arcanist's 1st level spells in his book are a little offence heavy, I'd trade out a spell in the book or two for mage armor or some other utility spell.

Liberty's Edge

I did that somewhat on purpose because I had it stuck in my mind that the kobold was a twisted little bugger. But if it would help to even the npc out some I'm not opposed to swapping some things around.

My thoughts are that if he wanted to have full offensive options he can prep all offensive spells, but having some other types of spells in his book makes him more useful to a group.

Liberty's Edge

ah good point. the level seven version that i have prepared already is more along those lines.

Hey man it is all about a second set of eyes on something. I can't tell you the number of times I've asked someone to look at something to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Looking forward to the lvl 7 writeups.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for looking it over. :)

The remaining level 7 write-ups that I have left to do are:

Dwarf Investigator 7
Hobgoblin Shaman 7
Nagaji Skald 7
Human Slayer 7
Samsaran Swashbuckler 7
Sylph Warpriest 7

The level 7's that are complete are:

Oread Arcanist 7
Half-Orc Bloodrager 7
Elf Brawler 7
Orc Hunter 7

Liberty's Edge

So as I started working on the Investigator 7 earlier, which is done now, I noticed that I forgot to give the Investigator 1 their extracts. I'll be including them when I upload the new file with all ten level seven builds.

On a side note, would anyone like this to look a little better than just a drab white background? I can dress it up a little if people want.

I am curious why you didn't just advance the previous characters, but good shot to start with.

I don't find the white background to be bad. Can you post up the lvl sevens?

Liberty's Edge

I have 5 - Level 7's left to do, and will get them up after that. Should be too long if I can get them done quickly. I wanted them to all be of a different race to see how the classes would handle.

Liberty's Edge

As promised here's all twenty of my planned sample non-player characters for the Advanced Class Guide. It contains a few fixes to the prior file that I posted so you'll want to grab this on.

Thanks for this! It should help with limited time jump into a playtest more quickly. :)

These are excellent! Well-done! Any specific reason you picked the races that you did? or was it a dice-roll on which race went to which class?

You're most welcome! That's part of why I did them.

It was a random die roll to see what race went with a class at either level that I did npcs for. That would be the other part of why I did them. I wanted to see how the new classes would react to races beyond the core rulebook. The races not in the core rules are from the Advanced Race Guide, and can also be found on the PRD.

I hope people enjoy them and that they let me know how they handled for them.

Here's a single named non-player character that I've created for the playtest that was inspired by a character of mine from a MMO.

Haryn Nailo - Male Elf Hunter of Erastil 10

You may also want to consider switching around the stats of the two Arcanist NPCs, since both of them have crappy Charisma, and it's more important now than it was before. :)

Liberty's Edge

Sonofa Tarrasque.... I didn't see that thank you for pointing it out. I'll definitely be looking in to that later today.

Liberty's Edge

The changes below have been uploaded to the prior link.

Kobold Arcanist 1: Dex 10, Cha 14; AC 12, Touch 11, Flat-Footed 12; Ref +0; CMD 8; Stealth +8; Exploit Save DC 12.

Oread Arcanist 7: Changes Wis 14, Cha 12; Will +7; Perception +9, UMD +11; Exploit Save DC 14.

Updated!

I've updated Haryn's statblock to the Revised ACG Playtest information, and thrown in his animal companion's statblock as well. You can find them both here

Liberty's Edge

I'd update the generics but I'm afraid that I'll miss something and they'll be useless for playtesting all of their abilities.

It really isn't. It pretty much just applies to the blasts which remain pretty terrible. It can apply to the School and Bloodline abilities but as you only get the level 1 abilities and the best ones are always on anyway it still doesn't matter.

I have the following playtest character which people are free to use. I shall be running him through Eyes of the Ten later this week to see how well a poorly optimised Arcanist can do.

Horden Hammerhand:

Horden was always considered a strange one amongst his people. He spent much of his youth exploring far off caverns, delving into old ruins and scrabbling after bits of paper. Some whisper that he is a traitor to his race, that he has made bargains with the Orcs in the deep places of the world. Damn them all to hell, he cares nothing for the whispers of people too close minded to understand his work. He will show them all, yes one day they will all see!

I've taken down the generic npc file as they are out of date with the revised acg playtest document. Haryn, however, has been updated to the new information and has had his animal companion included.

Thanks again for posting these. :)

You're most well, Mr. Reynolds. It makes me very happy to hear that.
