Three more days to know all the finalists...

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

I've got this strange feeling that the finalists know that they are finalists.....

I can attest that I had no prior knowledge. Seeing my monster up on the front page took me completely by surprise.

Another strong contender today. I like the idea of an intelligent plant, especially a malicious one. Great flavor text as well.

Cool, because then I still have a shot, even though I did notice a mistake in my entry (grmbl)

Yeah, we can still delude ourselve hope that we got into the final five.

Who knew slaadi could be so darned helpful?

I get the feeling the finalists' monsters are being revealed alphabetically. Given my monster's name, that means I likely won't have any release from the anticipation until the end of the week.

Delusion, illusion, straws, I'll take it!

I'm glad I decided to switch from my first choice of name: Zzzzznax. :P

If alphabetical order is in place then I am already out :(

Slaadi and badgers get along surprisingly well. After a badger rips your face off, you tend to not focus as much on the slaadi egg that one of us just implanted. :)

So am I, for it is a silly name. Well, unless it conducted an electric current through its strangling vines and that was an onomatopoeic name based on the sound it made when it zapped you...

Well, not every critter can have a name as snazzy as zloty.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hehehe well if it is alphabetic that throws me out too! But congrats to the 2 revealed so far!

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Today we have the Echo Demon, which is very cool.

Also, this means that the alphabetic presentation is not happening, all bets are off.

Linkified - a very cool entry by Eric Hindley. We're seeing some serious Superstar talent in this contest.

Two more chances...

I really liked this one. I thought it had an engaging style which felt fresh.

Wow, I'm honoured to be chosen for the contest, hope you like my humble demon.

I could be wrong, but I suspect the author of that monster might have been trying to appeal to my interests by 1) using something from folklore and 2) making it a div.

Totally trying to bribe the judges. Totally.

I just found out today that my mean little div made the finalist list. Very honored to have been selected, and greatful to be placed beside some amazing talent. The green strangler and echo demon are simply stellar (not to talk up the other finalists, but yeah, a bit surprised I'm on this list with them.)

Eric, you really have some monster creation ability, kudos.

Low CR demon. Always handy. I'm liking it. And now that my alphabetical reveal theory has been shot down, I'll resume my anxious hand-wringing.

RPG Superstar 2012

Wow, the competition is fierce this year. I'm excited to see the remaining two finalists, and I'm glad those who seemed out due to the no-longer-alphabetical arrangement are back in.

Trust me to go and bugger up alphabetical theories...

The echo demon must have killed today's monster....

Maybe it nodded off from a sleep hex?

It has even greater invisibility.

Saw your post, didn't know what an earworm was, but now I know

Ah the Paizo boards, showing me something new everyday.

Fourth competitor is Mask Wight.

Still one chance left...

And as you might notice, this is one of the 13th Age entries. It's also by Sersa Victory, who won the Valhalla Calling contest a while back.

Okay, I'm not familiar with the 13th Age mechanics, but the mask wight has some wicked cool flavor to it.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Yep that is one super cool monster.

So who is converting Mask Wight to Pathfinder? :D

These are awesome folks!
No surprise that I recognize these names is it :)
Alphabet or not, I know I am out of the running as there are 3 that I would vote for over my own.

Each entry is fantastic.

Woot! For a Friday the 13th, this is turning out to be a really good day. There's stiff competition in this entire lineup, but I'm grateful to be in the running.

*sigh*

Congratulations to all the five finalists.

*grumble-grumble* Now I will have to think whose monster I will vote for.

After initial browsing I think it will be the fire-fey, despite a bit overpowered IMO power that can easily be death sentence with just a touch (personally I would add more ways of removing that beyond remove curse/break enchantment).

Notice that finalist entries are skewed toward middle CRs - 5, 5, 8, 10 and ~13/14 (as 13th Age level seven corresponds to that number in PF).

Good catch. Might have to do with that supposed "sweet spot" in levels. Looking at mine retrospectively, I think I could have gone CR9 or even 10, but hindsight and all that. And of course the first thing I did when I reread my entry was catch a grammatical error in the description.

Still, it's better than the winter-themed fey I had as my first concept, before I thought "Really? You're going to try to place with yet another cold-based fey? Try something different."

My own submission was CR 7 arcane aberration.

Dark Archive

I went with a CR 2 aberration, myself.

There were tons of great entries this year, and the judges had a strong bench of contenders to choose from. Congrats to everyone who made the finals.

Voting starts tomorrow, I believe.

Amusingly, while this entry wound up at CR 5 for me, it actually shuffled around a bit, from about 4-8, before it settled. My entry into last year's contest, The Margreve Backpack Gecko was a lowly CR 3, so I wanted to shoot for something higher this year.

P.S., you'll notice that link is to a Monster Monday, so there's still hope for some additional monsters to see the light if day;)

The doppelrat and metoprana ended up being Monday Monsters from entries I submitted for previous contests, and the doppelrat enjoyed a continued existence in the Midgard Bestiary, so your creations may see publication. You never know...

I think that I initially I planned mine to be CR 5 but it slowly grew to 6 and finally 7.
