Boo no response to above post. So I'll ask a different one. If the legendary qualities of the original weapon are the same as Radiance (upgradeable) should the player pick a different quality?
they should have Radiance WAY before attaining mythic power, so if they go with legendary item it should be Radiance (which is already upgraded throughout the AP)

If the PC isn't a Paladin, nothing happens, it's just a masterwork cold iron longsword.
If the PC hasn't been doing the upgrades, it's just a masterwork cold iron longsword.
If the PC didn't use it until now, Radiance specifically awakens when a mythic Paladin wields it. If the PC isn't a mythic Paladin, nothing happens.
James has stated that a PC may take Legendary Item for a different item. However, if you let your PC move their Legendary Item to Radiance, you're allowing them to backtrack 1-3 tiers and remake selections. Are you going to allow your other PCs to do so?

I hope this isn't too much of a derail, but I wasn't sure it qualified as a different thread.
I'm preparing to run this adventure path and I'd like to give Radiance some intelligence. Nothing big, certainly nothing powerful, but just enough to help guide the PCs. My group is a very combat oriented group, and I think it might help if the paladin gets a nudge from time to time that the intelligence in his sword is appalled by the destruction of a shrine, for example, and wants to see it fixed. Is there any reason I couldn't do something like that?

You could easily do something like this. You could make it so the consciousness of the sword awaken slowly just like the abilities of the sword unlocking as the wielder grows in power.

It doesn't even have to be "intelligent", just somewhat empathic. Warm feelings around things you want them to do, cold around things to avoid.
Now you could go the full intelligence route and maybe even give it 10 ranks of Knowledge (planes) if there's no scholar of note in the party, but it's not required or anything.

Cool!
Okay, next question.
It says that when the PCs discover Radiance, it is inert. What I can't decide is whether it would ping under a detect magic or not. I'm assuming yes, but would it be a faint magical aura, or the aura of a legendary? Or maybe it won't show at all? Thoughts?
The item description says that it registers as a Strong aura, but I think that while it's inert it should fall under GM purview. Which is why, despite having "Strong" as its defined aura, I had it register as Overwhelming, to the point that it momentarily stunned the person casting detect magic. They weren't in danger, so it was more of a cinematic "this thing is potentially really powerful" moment.
Though apparently I misread Radiance's description because I thought that unless it was in the hands of a Paladin it was simply a masterwork longsword, not a masterwork cold iron longsword. So I'll have to correct that.

I went the opposite route, and had it be completely inert magically until their paladin picked it up. The first person to pick it up was the magus, because their pally uses a greatsword. "Yeah, it's a pretty gold longsword, no magic aura." Then he gave it to the pally (because Aravashnial had relayed a portion of Yaniel's story to them) and wa-bang!

Sorry, I'm a little behind in all this. I've just started running this campaign, and ran into the issue that our main paladin is a Champion of Irori. Before you said that I could just make it hand wraps, but due to another thread ( http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2kxzf?Monk-Cestus-questions ) I'm worried about giving the monk an overpowered weapon, especially if he chooses it as his legendary weapon.

Radiance as a legendary enhancement to his unarmed attacks is not going to be any more unbalancing than Radiance as a Legendary Great Sword. Apart from the legendary powers it amounts to +5 to hit and Holy damage plus a dispel magic ability and magic resistance. That amounts to +2 better than he can get with an amulet of mighty fists it is nothing against the other bonuses at high level let alone the mythic stuff

I highly doubt there is much chance of getting a response from James again but my DM and I are interpreting this thread differently.
Here is the scenario.
My character already has Radiance and it is currently at a +2. We are in Drezen and I found
I would like to bond with that via Legendary item. My interpretation is that Radiance would still continue to grow in power, though not as powerful as it could have been. It would still eventually be a holy avenger just like James has said in this thread.
My DM is interpreting it as though Radiance reverts back to a +1 longsword as soon as I 'bond' with the other item. Because you can't be bonded to 2 legendary items at once.
So, does Radiance still grow in the hands of a mythic paladin if he takes the legendary item path ability for another item?

I am playing the paladin in a Wrath of the Righteous game.. and it has been challenging in that many of the foes we face are mortal and not fiends... so my paladin in vein of that has tried to give enemies the chance to surrender and shown mercy whenever possible...wages war on evil not with slaughter and destruction but defeating evil with mercy and compassion seeking the good in others and conquering evil with goodness.
One of the random encounters in Kenebras is Tiefling Looters ~ on the surface of that encounter in typical Adventurer ~ MURDER HOBO fashion.. your supposed to fight them. Unfortunately for the party... we all beat them on initiative and my paladin was our highest. So I walked up to them identified myself and asked the Tieflings if they needed any food or had injured that needed healing?
Completely floored the GM. Asked me why would you be nice to them? And my reply was.. "well are they hurting anyone?"
GM: 'Well no not currently..., but their looting the ruins.'
Me - Daryun Paladin of IOMEDAE: 'Just like we are doing... looking for food, supplies, weapons, armor; anything we can use to survive... what's the difference?'
GM: 'They could be evil?'
Me: 'So? Are you saying that all evil people are deserving of death weather they have done anything criminal that I can lawfully prove with no evidence that is deserving of a summary death sentence?'
GM: 'They are tieflings...'
Me: 'And again so? Are you saying ALL tieflings are evil and thus deserving of death?'
GM: 'You do have a point...'
Me: 'Demons are fiends ~ they have nature.. by their nature they can usually only be evil {now we know in extreme cases that can be incorrect as well ~ spoilers :)}, but mortals have the precious gift of choice..they can choose to be good or evil.. if we assume everyone is evil and unredeemable going right to violence.. how are we any better than the evil we profess to hate and oppose?'
...and this is how many encounters in the module have progressed when dealing with mortal agents..we have fought a lot of them. But always my paladin has sought a way to give strangers the benefit of doubt not slaughter everything we encounter. It has NOT been easy maintaining that or holding party back from wanting to kill everything we meet ~ and granted we've had to fight a lot of stuff anyways.. but the easy choice of violence is not a path my paladin walks. It has made for a VERY memorable game for all involved!

Sorry for the thread necro, but in my view, Roleplaying a Paladin well is fairly high up on the "high skill cap high reward" thing in terms of possible gameplay hooks etc.
Having to weigh the expedient vs the morally just (in terms of prisoners, whom you ally with, and the module has some really interesting aspects in this, doubt, benefit of doubt) can be pretty great.
Whom do you try to redeem? Is it justified to redeem one "named important character" when you could also spend the same time saving people who are not evil?
One could even, from the reverse, argue that Demons are lesser evil compared to Cultists, as the cultists have chosen their path while the demons have not.
Now, my group likes some court room drama, and does not neccesarily shy away from being on the opposite side of a courtroom.
We had, early act 5 gained a new somewhat unconventional ally (the group secured a full alliance, with credible military forces being committed by the new ally, including a small expeditionary force in Mendev, even with the equivalent of a "diplomatic marriage without any pretense of exclusivity whatsorever rofl").
The agreement included a full prisoner excahnge, all for all, between prisoners faithfull to either side, provided they were taken since the opening of the world wound.
What happened is that:
--Who counts as a worshipper? One who was captured by Iomedaens hundred years ago, converted to her service, and now has to move back into the Abyss?
--What about a Iomedean, captured by Dreskari forces, brought into the worldwound, sold to a Nocticulan Slaver, and turned into a chaotic evil mercenary who likes his new work enviroment. If he is to be released, should the slaver be compensated? If he, as a mercenary who is capable enough to survive in the abyss for decades, and is completely out of touch with material plane mores, even if he would wish to relearn them, commits atrocities after release, is the party to blame?
--If one adds a "only if the to be released consents to being released" clause, well, both Nocticula and Iomedae have ways of making people stay.
--Also, what if the prisoner is not one his "own side" would like to accept?
--If one promises adequate compensations to slavers for freeing their Golarion crusader slaves, well, my party did, the slavers immidiatly turned this into a massive scam with Golarionese slaves massively increasing in value (and a variety of not yet involved demon lords becoming suddenly itnerested in the continuiation of the Golarian slave trade), being demons after all.
