Consider yourself fortunate: I have somehow lost the tutorial thread trying to evade the attacks of a dragon when I took a portal out of the tutorial area.
It's sort of confusing; there's like two tutorials. The first is basic movement, from the WASD stuff up to the dragon and escape. The second starts with binding to the lifestone in the start town - but you can't do that until getting past the dragon.
You might be able to recover the tutorial thread - there might be a circle with a star in it up near the left corner. It's a three-way toggle: Mostly hidden; one line of mission requirements; and a slightly more detailed explanation of the mission.

Consider yourself fortunate: I have somehow lost the tutorial thread trying to evade the attacks of a dragon when I took a portal out of the tutorial area. I'm in an almost empty home city without any directions to do anything at all. I read somewhere I was supposed to get a mount, but it looks like I missed out on such niceties. But I did figure out how to add prowess points to my skills... yet my primary spells are still grey.
I am wondering whether I should start over yet again. I have figured out how to harvest herbs stone and wood and am slowly gaining prowess. Also found some zombies to blast and gain some minor loot.
Any tips or advice would be welcome.
The white star in the top left corner of the UI, if left-clicking that does not bring back the 'tutorial thread' it may just be gone.
Do not despair. You may have a mount figurine in your bank anyway, and if not, well, I lost my original mount already ;p"Machts nichts" (it means nothing)
You can craft mounts from safe area resources.
That is what I will be doing tonite , until we get a group up and go do something foolish ; )
Tips: save a few weapons from the zombies (the dire zombie drops a staff for you casters. Haven't seen a bow yet).
Skin those graves, some crafting mats only come from 'skinning'.
Salvage all the extra weapons, they sell for 1gold each, you should ge t plenty of cash for crafting by direct loot.
Craft everything : make shields, armor and mounts , whatever you need so that you'll have spares to equip when you come home naked from the pvp zone. You'll earn prowess doing so.
Look at the link Gedichtewicht posted if you haven't already.

I'll check it through steam. But yeah the Darkfall site thinks we are in europe. Thanks guys.

I believe once you get past the Dragon, the Tutorial is over.
Once I got to Lyran, I spent several hours trying to familiarize myself with the UI. I then took the Feats as a check-list of things I should be doing.
I read somewhere I was supposed to get a mount...
You should see a Garmin (sp?) Figurine in your backpack. That's your mount. You can add it to your Quick Items (the 8 slots at the bottom of your Paperdoll) for quick access. Once you see it in the world (it looks like a hairless Bantha) walk up to it and hit 'F' to mount.
To dismount, point your target reticle down at it and hit 'F' again.
To put it back in your backpack, point your target reticle at it and hold 'F' until you get a radial menu - one of those options will put it away.
I am wondering whether I should start over yet again.
I would recommend you stick with the one you have. Whenever you're playing, get on the PFOFan TeamSpeak server in the Darkfall channel. Hopefully, there will be others of us there who can help.

Update from a Habitual Harvester:
Just some averages for people trying to achieve some of the earlier harvesting feats. Completing these provides much more prowess than just the slow accumulation from the harvesting itself.
Logging: In the time it took to achieve the 200 lumber achievement, I also had about 12 resin and larvae (enough for the minor achievements for 10 of each of those two less common items). My next achievement is for 3000 lumber...so it might be a while before I can tell you how that goes.
Herb Gathering: In the time it took to achieve the 200 cotton achievement, I also had 11 mandrake, 12 seeds, 3 steedgrass (enough for the 10 mandrake and 10 seed achievements). At least where I'm at, steedgrasses seem pretty rare.
Also whacked away at some rock and the ratios of less common items seems about the same for stone.
One big difference is encumbrance for each...naturally lumber and stone are much, much heavier.
As you use your tools, there's a small chance with each use that you get a durability hit message. In the time it took to get the 200 item achievements, the appropriate tool was about half used up. I haven't discovered where to get them fixed or how to buy new ones.
I also suggest hitting "H" to rest once your stamina has bottomed out from harvesting, since it returns about 3-4 times faster. I haven't noticed any benefit to success based on a higher stamina. Of course, I'm doing this in the safety of town, so you might want to avoid resting too much out in the wild.

I have about 300G so far, those chaos chests are useful. Now if I can just work out how to add friends in game I should be able to find you and hand it over - or is there a working mail system?
Oh, and first thing PfO should learn from DF? How not to design a UI!
All I've been doing is harvesting, so I only have my initial 5g. What are you doing to make that kind of coin?

Anyone: how can I save my keybindings? I'm left-handed, so I re-map essentially everything, but I'm having to re-do it *every* time I enter the game.
If this is working-as-designed, Darkfall's going into the wasted-electrons bin :-).
EDIT: on my most-recent entry into the game, the feat-assigning star in the upper-left-hand corner of the GUI has gone blank (probably as Being experienced), when it had been suggesting I "Complete 3 Feats". How do I re-activate it? I'm thinking something went badly wrong, as all my quick-slotted items were un-slotted as well.

...I only have my initial 5g.
How do you have even that much? Following the star-suggestions, I spent gold to buy a woodaxe and a skinning knife, and to create some wood from timber.
Now I have zero gold, the merchants offer nothing for my gathered timber, nor for meat, hide, and bile from spiders near my starting town. I need gold to craft, and to buy other tools...
Still much to learn.

AH/Market can be looked at from an "anchor" looking icon on the right hand vertical edge of screen.
If you want gold quicker, get nekkid, run through open PVP areas, and look for chaos chests. get close and use with "f". Find a semi-hidden spot and recall to town. They are random. I have been lucky twice and not killed while searching. Total 490 gold. Half of that spent refining gatherings.
Bank is iron box near bind point in my city. Myrrfar, or something. The Alvvar city.
There are some chests that spawn tools, food, weapons/armor, magic mats around the city also. All can also be bought at vendors.
Anyone need some simple stuff like an extra bag or tools, list on here and I will get it together and do some area shouts for Goblins in area chat and gladly give to you.
I am Kodakhan Hammerhand.

I'll try to verify that my key bindings are getting saved, because I made some significant changes. For now, make sure you don't hit the "Reset to Defaults" button that looks like a Refresh button.
How do I re-activate it?
Click the white star. It's a three-way toggle.
Also, I think 'J' brings up the full list of Feats.

Made that mistake first day. I know I didn't do it twice, though :-).

Yah, knew about the three-way; all three are blank. I'll see whether anything changes next time I go in.

That's what it had shown me before I quit, and I'd set up a few to track. The next goal was "Complete 3 Feats", and I stopped there.
When I came back, both the suggestion and my tracked Feats were blank. Do you remember whether there were other suggested goals after you hit that one?

Wow--this is setting a new bar for unintuitive interface design. I can't do anything--not even basic stuff like sell.
It took me quite a while, but I eventually started to be able to find things like how to Sell my stuff (look for a very tiny button to the left of the "shelf") and how to craft.
For what it's worth, you can Summon a friend (once an hour, I think) so we might be able to congregate somewhere without having to travel to do it. As a side note, even if you cancel out of the Summons, you will still be on the 1 hour cooldown.
I think the UI might be more intuitive to FPS players, but I really don't know. I see some features that I've heard others asking for - things like Forced 1st Person perspective (at least when I have my Staff out and can cast spells).

...Forced 1st Person perspective (at least when I have my Staff out and can cast spells).
I found that when I had my staff out and was in 1st-person view, that I could hit the "Switch" key and be in 3rd-person with the staff out. If I recall, it remembers that choice when you put away and pull out the staff later on.

First of all many thanks for the TS server (though I'm not quite sure where I should be directing them). Had a chat with Being and Mbando earlier on, it's good to be able to put some ... well, voices to avatars at least.
Good to meet you guys, and nice not to feel quite so "isolated" here in Yurp :)

What was the "Switch" key? I repeatedly tried hitting F7 and F8 since they sounded vaguely camera-specific.

OK. Partied up with Pino Bloodaxe, Urman Urmanson, Lucas Silvertusk, and Kodakhan Hammerhand. Friended up Mbando, Pino and a couple of others, but the list seems to disappear often for some reason.
Magdhir and Idawoll are next to each other, and there are monster spawn points for practice. Difficulties are for starting characters:
Zombies (easy)
Spiders (most easy, black spiders hard)
Trolls, same as spiders
Bears (medium, you can outrun them with Shf +W)
Wisps and Spirits (hard)
Got killed by a wisp afk mining in the zombie dungeon of Maghdir (was doing dishes).
Don't be afraid to explore the green areas, but check your map often "M". If outmatched by a monster, don't be afraid to run. You can outrun most creatures, but run soon enough so their missiles don't get you. Running is smart! Most of the monsters and animals have a defensible perimeter. Run outside of that area and recoup. Don't run into PvP areas unless you have to, but hope you banked your gold and loot.
While working on your interface skills, be in town and gather something. Ore veins are uncommon and almost always tapped out. If you find one, mine it out right away.
You can buy and put extra gathering tools in your toolkit. Losing your pick far from town is a pain. Have spares.
There are chaos chests around that drop abt 150 gold if not empty.
Use "F" key to interact, including roots, fruit trees, chests, anything with a hand icon.
If you wish to specialize, save your prowess for those particular skills. The first 50 points or so are a 1 for 1 gain. As you get higher (say 75/100 in a level 1 skill) you are now spending 20 prowess per gain. I have abt 1100 prowess and spend them all. Got little to show for it as I was spreading them around. :(
Crafting costs gold. IF you don't need to spend it, hang on 'til we get the clan started. Getting close. Then we can learn together, faster I think.
For new characters, imho the UI takes a week or so to learn. Sounds nuts but the controls seem like an alien language. Even the chat window seems much more complicated than it should be. Be patient and try to get registered for Team speak (Andius linked it somewhere else).
If you need to find someone, play with the friends menu. Again, not intuitive, but there is a search tool that seems to work when it wants to.
Hang in there everyone! We can do this!!

A suggestion...when we get a big group going again (that was fun, and maybe we crashed it!) we might take a little time to go through some drill practicing the little things we have learned so we can teach each other how things work. Trading for example...strange, as there is no "right click" menu.
The magic wheels are another thing that takes some practice. While in the Army it was taught you could get familiar with a drill (say, loading a magazine into your M-16) by doing it 100 tomes, but you couldn't do it reflexively until you had done it at least 1000 times. So all the things you know how to do will come easily, as you do them over and over. You'll hit your 1000 quickly. Doing the things you can't do or don't know how to do don't get practiced (magic wheels, chat boxes, crafting) and you don't know you can't do it until it's too late. We need to help train one another.
And post some motto and charter ideas. Microsoft Word has a character count in the tools menu (do a word count, it counts characters too). I don't want to pick a rotten motto unless it's crowdforged rottenness. (Although the "We be Goblins..." one was cute.)

I had 5 gold, because I never left the town and had been spending all my time harvesting. Then I stumbled upon a chaos chest sitting right in the middle of town. Besides spell components and a minor healing potion, I also found a pile of gold. I now have 700 to contribute to the clan thingy if you still need it.
All you big adventurous types go out there and get killed. I'm staying within the safety of town to make my fortune. :)

Any details on the PVP system forthcoming?
Do you have to be a certain level to PVP?
Did you guys role on a PVP server?
What are some of the features of PVP (Mounted Combat, Formation Combat, Siege Combat, Structure Capture?}?
Is there a death penalty?
Are there consequences for griefing?
Are there consequences for attacking someone not flagged for PVP?

For PVP learn the UI and you can also make your own keybindings.
Any lvl is open for PVP.
Unknown yet. I saw a battle between 2 clans today (I think), and it looked like old school cluster f&+!.
There is full loot on your corpse. Respawn at your bind point. No apparent "prowess" or skill penalties.
The general chat is nasty, though I saw some talking about a person banned for "chat Grief". I don't think there are any rules in the PVP areas.
No.

Andius has the most info on the PvP...I don't know of any of us so far that have PvP'd. The UI is taking all week to learn to use...
There are only 2 servers, North America and Europe. Both are full PvP with full looting rights. Safe zones near starter cities and some surrounding areas (enough for noobs to learn some skills, but that's about it).
There is mounted combat and siege combat. There is settlement construction and siege, settlement capture, Point of Interest Capture, and theft from enemy controlled villages. Not sure of the mechanics, but there are patch notes on the website.
Death penalty is modest in PvE...killer must apply a "Killing Blow" which NPCs don't so. PvP will get you fully dead and looted.
Apparently no consequences for greifing except those that other players and player organizations are willing to inflict.
Uncertain, but apparently no consequences for attacking a non-flagged player in the PvP zones except for you getting flagged as well.
Most Clans are small (under 25 players), the largest has about 225, next below that is one with 165 (all this is for the NA server, not a clue for the European).
Bad Horse; The game costs $40 with 30 days. You can opt for $15 per month after the first 30 days. It took me between 2-3 hours to download. Expect it to take the better part of a week to learn to use the interface well enough to function.

The PVP system allows you to attack anyone, anywhere, for any reason outside safe zones. Those zones are much bigger than pre-UW and block PVP completely it seems.
Anyone who leaves the safe zones can engage, and be engaged in PVP.
There is no such thing as a PVE server.
There is mounted combat but it seems just as unuseable as it was in the original. Formation combat will be unique to PFO unless someone rips it off. There were seiges and city capture mechanics in the original. Given there are still player owned cities we can only assume there still is. There is also naval combat. I would look up some PVP videos on YouTube to get a feel for the game.
Unless things have changed, the death penalty is getting sent back to your bind point and losing everything you had on you

So far it appears to me Darkfall Unholy Wars is not at all PvP: it is in fact PvGUI.
I cannot cast a spell yet. I can self-heal with a right-click but attempting to cast a spell with a left click only results in a staff bolt. I rerolled (again) thinking I missed something in the tutorial (and to get out of 'water' specialization), lost all that prowess I had built up and all my resources, etc. and lo: I didn't miss anything: it is simply a very poor GUI that I am still wrestling with. I think the GUI designer is very long on theory but short on experience, too wrapped up in how brilliant his product is to recognize that his product is instead impenetrable.
This from someone known throughout the lands as an optimistic fanboi-type. Frustration debuffs intelligence quite effectively and needs a nerf.

Being, Hang in there. A few of us have send friend requests, and it should be far easier to share our experiences with the GUI verbally. It is tough, but to what Chief Dan George told Josie Wales, "Strive to endeavor to persevere."
Some things I am decent at, most I am not (I can mine stone and metal like a big dog, but casting is tricky).
The primary toggle is Action or GUI. If you get flustered, open backpack with B so you can more your cursor without moving your view. Most all the buttons on the far right side have a corresponding letter command in the keybinds, but they seem to differ depending on what version you downloaded. Steam is one way, the Darkfall site is another.
To chat, stop moving and open pack (b) to get GUI working, click on "Social" search on social to find any one of us (Lhan is European so on mornings in NA, I think Torrbron is too but have not contacted him yet). Most of us are on in evenings NA Had a 10 many party going on killing zombies and spiders on the 20th. Pretty chaotic, and even with that load the server lagged a lot, and I died far away from any nasties.
Hang in there Goblin! As soon as we get consensus on our motto and charter the Goblin Squad is up. We might be goblins, but don't need to act like them!

This morning there appears to have been a reset of some kind on data: I had to repopulate both my quickbars and radial wheel. Once I had done so I was able to cast a spell.
A key combination (e.g. Alt & 1) appears to be required before using a mouse click to activate a primary skill. That choice then resets, requiring spell selection and subsequent mouse click to use. Imagining how this will work in PvP combat is intimidating. I do NOT recommend this schema for PFO as it is (all manner of abusive words propose themselves as appropriate adjectives) cumbersome. Primary skills must be readily useful and not require prestidigitation of the player to use.

Decius has been involved in PvP at least once, and I think about three times.
That's not to say he "engaged" in PvP, just that he was "involved" in PvP :)

LOL! Indeed!

This is totally unnecessary. You can switch Roles at any time, and you can respec to different specializations within a Role just as easily.

I believe ESC is the preferred method of toggling between GUI mode and Action mode.

Per the manual ECS is the preferred method. But the key is in an awkward position when you are used to being a "Home Row" typist. They do have a GUI that must work, but they certainly didn't spend any time on the ergonomics of the hand, or the mind. (Note that "Sprint" uses Shift + "W". It's rare the old man finger gets action, but there you go.)
Not being able to directly interact with other players is maddening, as is the technique they finally used. Getting very close to another player you can hit the "F" key (truly an invasion of their personal space, even in a virtual world, and both toons are looking askew while the controller fiddles wit the overly sensitive trade panel, or whatever you are working on.
Honestly, it's so bad is almost funny (if I have just dropped $55 on it). But I'll learn it. Damn, if toddlers can text surely I can figure this awful thing out.
