Aside from body bags, any serious suggestions on protective Magic Items?
ANY 3.5 material will do, non-SRD, etc.

How about offensive items?

Rings of sustanance...

The Exchange

The ring of sustenance is a good idea since you definitely don't want to ingest any matter there. Some way to provide your own air supply is likely to be helpful too.

The fact that the GM doesn't want to kill your characters in a stupid anticlimactic way is really your only sure defense. If it's not rude to ask, why are you going there? It may have an impact on what you're liable to encounter.

Great advice on the ring! How about the insanity thing.

Good question,...I think it's GM smut. My PC (nor any PC) should never ever want to go there. The general answer to why, is for the PCS to follow clues that lead to FR with zero pretense on what might happen. Kind of like going to a sushi restaurant in Zimbabwe - I have no idea what to expect - probably some fighting, some running, lots of screaming.

Are you crossing over at some safe point? Is there a 'home base'? If so be sure to always have Word of Recall ready to go.

Do not bring goggles/gems of True Seeing! That being said, all aberrations have darkvision so don't depend on any external light sources.

Anything you can get your hands on to boost your Will save is good.

Edit: One more thing. You should have your character write a letter to a relative/friend/etc. telling them of the journey you plan to take. In true Call of Cthulhu fashion, this can allow the recipient of the letter to be your replacement character when you go insane or are eaten.

::depressing::

Good point about the Word of Recall in case DM decides to decimate the entire party, the Cthulhu advice is good too.

Will save booster will have to be rings/cloaks/etc. Any one know of insanity blockers?

On a facetious note, it can be helpful to wear a sock puppet and consult it regularly, referring to it as "Glorious Master." The Things that dwell there will assume that you are already insane and may pass you by in favor of saner minds.

However, if you find afterward that the sock puppet really is your master now, you were a little too convincing.

Wellington boots. The ground is likely to be...gooey. And rubber gloves.

Mind Blank. Anything that boosts Will saves. Anything that prevents being polymorphed (since you don't want to turn into a mass of tentacles). Anything that lets you Plane Shift out really really fast. And very dark goggles, because you don't want to see anything.

Liberty's Edge

That sword of planes, I think.

Every buff potion you can get your hands on.

A copy of your Last Will and Testament, which you should have made before you left.

I disdain how much the ring of sustenance is praised. I say get everlasting rations and one or two everfull mugs. Both can be found in the Magic item compendium, recently reprinted.

Shadow Lodge

Ioun stone (iridescent spindle)of survive with air (implanted in skin), ioun stone (clear spindle) of survive without food or drink. Wayfinder to slot the second ioun stone (clear spindle) into for constant no dominate as per protection from evil. Necklace of Adaptation.

Not sure about the insanity thing except for mind blank and heal spells.

Those sunglasses from They Live.

Brilliant.

OBEY.
STAY ASLEEP.

Welly boots! Okay okay, that's hilarity, esp. 'Glorious Master' sock puppet and the Roddy Piper glasses. Imagine the look! It'll get all the natives saying "WTF...?"

From Saltband's advice, great suggestions, unfortunately Prot Evil wouldn't help on Far Relam using Planescape rules.

Thread now open for all jokes.

Shadow Lodge

Neck braced. drool cup for hands free drool capture for those times insanity cant be avoided.

'Depends' to avoid soiling your under garments after encountering Far Realm inhabitants.

Shadow Lodge

Bump

A towel.

Duh.

Miser's Mask is the most amazing item that people never buy.

A child's red tricycle. In crazy town, its the fastest thing on three wheels.

It's a cool item, but if you're in the Far Realm, you should be more concerned with survival than with getting a bonus to Appraisal.
