I played a chaos gnome dragon shaman from level 1 to 14 or so. A really good meatshield, with lots of neat tricks. Not a big damage dealer, but a decent party buffer, and eventually a decent healer. I would definitely play one again. Just not a slow-speed or Small-sized one. :-P

Good combos for vestiges?

Chupoclops plus any of the other Vestiges that give you natural attacks - Ipos for claws, Amon for gore, etc. - can make a good pounce charger. Toss in Karsus for the boost to UMD and ability to use wands, and pick up a wand of (greater) magic fang ASAP.

If you want to tank/frontline fighter, pick up Aym for medium armor proficiency until you can get Savnok for heavy (and free armor that upgrades with you!). At higher levels Eligor gives you proficiency so if you find better equipment than Savnok's armor you can swap it in.

Grab Andras (free Smite Good/Evil) and Tenebrous (free rebuke undead) for semi-unlimited fuel for Smite-based/Turn-based feats. (Complete Warrior, Complete Divine, Complete Champion, and the Fiendish Codex books are good sources for these.)

The best class of 3.5 in my view. Okay, I'm biased, but it has to be the Shaper side of the Psion. Here are the reasons why -- really. It isn't silly. Although the Wizard could also count for the reasons below for those who think that a line between Fantasy and Science Fiction shouldn't be crossed -- but the Wizard is a cop out compared to the Shaper side of the Psion.

What the Bleep do we know?

The Secret -- the book is better than the movie.

Abraham Hicks -- the books are highly recommended.

Think and Grow Rich -- not as much "mysticism," but it contains the same. (as an aside: Mysticism is the art of blaming others for your problems, not a professed knowledge in something supernatural)

When it comes right down to it, if you are looking for a class that replicates our REAL LIFE(tm), you can't really get too far from a Shaper psion. The shaper psion represents the quintessence of what it means to be alive. :)

now for pure martial art coolness, the Fighter is the best class out of all of them. For absolute cool on the other end of the spectrum, the Artificer from Eberron is the most resourceful class built for 3.5. But the most thematic class of all 3.5 has to be the Barbarian from the Conan RPG 2nd Edition.

I am a big fan of the knight, and the scout like Smilo.

I'll be 20th level, so I'll have access to all the vestiges.

The one with the Large axe or hammer + Savnok sounds fun.

Is anyone keeping track? What's the tally at?

Eurynome, yeah she's pretty awesome. Note that at higher levels her hammer becomes Anarchic, so if you're not Chaotic-aligned or have the Ordered Chaos feat from Fiendish Codex I you'll take penalties for using it.

Savnok + Eurynome + Andras can make a pretty good front-line smasher, so long as your enemies are either Good or Evil and thus smitable. Toss anyone you like into the last slot - Tenebrous is good if you have a lot of turn-based feats, Eligor is a general good choice for frontline fighter and gives you a STR boost and extra elemental damage, or Chupoclops will let you Pounce and hit your enemies with a debuff aura and give you a secondary Bite attack with poison.

Another good combination is Malphas + Marchiosas + Chupoclops. The sneak attack dice from the first two stack, and between their stealth boosts, Malphas's Invisibility, and Chupoclops's Lifesense and Pounce, you can make a pretty good scout and ambush rogue. Again, fill the last slot with anyone you like. I'd go with Ipos for the Cold Iron Claws, in that suggestion.

I'm liking Balam: +5 to AC, Reflex Saves, and Initiative, Weapon Finesse, and a re-roll every 5 rounds.

Malphas + Marchiosas = 11d6 sneak attack/sudden attack. Add Tenebrous, and you are in the center of deeper darkness with see-in-darkness.

Ah yes, those four are an awesome set of ambush potential, yes. I always forget about Balam, I never used her much.

I love re-rolls, so she'll probably be a favorite of mine.

I loved the Ultimate Magus just for the sheer 'legs' it gave an arcane spell user.

Objectively I advocate for the druid in 3.5 though.

Warlock/Dragonfire Adept are really nifty classes that can't be replicated in PF.

For flavor one of my favorites is the Warforged Juggernaut. My favorite, or at least most played PrCs from 3.0/3.5 was the Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5. Red Wizard was a lot of fun as well.

Silver Crusade

Number 1 for me has to be Warblade; it makes melee far more interesting for me and my group. We can't go back to fighters after it.

Scout: I loved the flavor for this, it always seemed so much cooler than the rogue, and if it could have gotten a full attack on move, probably would have been one of my fave classes ever.

Duskblade: While I like the Magus more, the progenitor to it was a blast to play, and was a great out of the box gish type fighter.

Warmage: My first character ever was one, and for someone who just wants to blast, it's a great simple character to just let loose with.

I never got to play one but I always liked the idea of the marshal class

Yes. The idea. Warblade or Crusader with White Raven, splash Bard to taste, could actually do the job that the marshall claimed to do.

Factotum
because why pick one class

My first character was an Orc Warmage named Drago Hellmane. We made it through half a session because no one knew how to use spells and I used his "spell list" with brief spell descriptions to try and cast spells. The Dwarf Monk based off Ang Bahk made me look really crappy.

Check out the invoker for a good PF Warlock update.

I had a brutal Goliath Fighter(Dungeoncrasher)/Barbarian(RSL-MountainRage).

When he raged, Mountain Rage made him actually large giving him the reach bonus, he used a spiked chain for a 20' reach, and just smashed people into walls with knockback getting the 8d6+3xStr bonus for a total of 10d6+4.5str+PA per hit once he trapped someone on a wall. With Combat reflexes and a 20' reach he dominated the area.

Factotum, Warlock, Archivist. As for prestige classes...MALCONVOKER! I've always been a big fan of the "use evil for a good cause" trope.

I would LOVE to play a gestalt scout//warlock.

have I mentioned the geomancer yet?

Silver Crusade

The Incantatrix PrC from the Players Guide to the Forgotton Realms.

I enjoyed the flavor both the binder and the warlock.

As far as prestige classes go, I've always been a fan of Initiative of the Seven Fold Veil--a focus on my favorite part of arcane magic.
Also, the Combat Trapsmith from Complete Scoundrel--I like traps in D&D, and that class allows me to use them in combat.
