Weird Question for you James.
I need to drop an earthquake onto my players for storyline purposes. After figuratively tearing apart my Core Rulebook and GameMastery Guide, I was shocked to learn that aside from the spell, there are absolutely no rules involving how to run an earthquake!
Any tips / ideas?

Oh oh what about saxophones?

Yeah; I've been vexed by the lack of earthquake rules as well.
You can use the spell effects to run one though.

Nope. Those push my anachronism alarms too far.

Ah oh well, thankies for the response though.

So far, so good on the long weekend, since it ends my one-week staycation. No plans for Memorial Day itself, and certainly no plans for BBQ since I'm on a pretty hard-core diet at the moment.
The stonelord's mount is weird and exotic, but if it dies, the paladin suffers the same way that any other paladin does.
Thanks James! Appreciate the feedback. Wish you the best on your diet!

Oh my bad, a Crossroads Devil is basically a creature (usually the Devil himself) in Blues and Country folklore one could sell their souls to, usually for incomparable musical ability or other things they desired.

Sorry if this has been asked before but what are some lesser known Mythos stories you would recommend ?
Also are their any stories you can think of that are in the same vein as Lovecraft's "The Outsider"?
There's some greats among Lovecraft's ghost writing projects, particularly "Out of the Aeons" and "The Mound."
Here's a few from non Lovecraft authors that I've particularly enjoyed:
"Notebook Found in a Deserted House" by Robert Bloch
"The Feaster From Afar" by Joseph Payne Brennan
"Jerusalem's Lot" by Stephen King
"The Tugging" by Ramsey Campbell
"The Terror from the Depths" by Fritz Leiber
"Black Man with a Horn," by T.E.D. Klein
"Fat Face," by Michael Shea
"The Last Feast of Harlequin," by Thomas Ligotti
"The Seven Geases," by Clark Ashton Smith
"The Black Stone," by Robert E. Howard
"The Salem Horror," by Henry Kuttner
"The Barrens," by F. Paul Wilson
"His Mouth will Taste of Wormwood," by Poppy Z. Brite
"Discovery of the Ghooric Zone," by Richard A. Lupoff
"The Space Eaters," by Frank Belknap Long.
"The Burrowers Beneath," by Brian Lumley
"The Return of the Lloigor," by Colin Wilson
"Sticks," by Karl Edward Wagner
As for stories in the vein of "The Outsider," there's been QUITE a few ghoul stories written by folks over the years that would qualify... depends what you're looking for, I guess, but nothing immediately comes to mind if you're looking for stories that have the same twist as that one.

would a ninja using levitation after making a long jump stop in mid air or keep going for a short distant flight due to the motion ninja was doing before hand and levitation???
He'd go as far as the jump would normally let him jump, but would remain floating in the air at the end of the horizontal distance traveled.

There's plenty of folks to sell your soul to in order to be better at music, but no one off the top of my head comes to mind as one in particular.

Awesome, many thankies.
As to the second question while the twist is nice I was looking for more stories that deal with the unknown rather than fear and insanity. The narrator's lack of self and knowing bit still constantly pressing onward was a great draw for me.

Okay, thankies for the continued responses :3 was just curious if their was one that specialized in that sort of deal or was really well known for it.

Sorry, I know I'm quoting something over a year old in this thread... but I just now came across this exchange while researching something else you said on certain Alignment and Faith topics. Just wanted to say: "If you're still considering this idea, my opinion on it is Hell Yes. I would buy this. Will gladly open up my wallet for it, please make this AP!"

Also, Centaur Werewolf, where in hybrid form the hooves split apart and become clawed paws as well, cool or no?
Not cool. The cool thing about werewolves is that they take humanity and turn it bestial. Centaurs are already bestial. A werewolf centaur is like pouring maple syrup on sugar cubes. It's overkill.

It absolutely is. Part of what defines Golarion is the fantastic elements we put into the setting, such as magic, clockworks, aliens, and robots. Saxes are hardly fantastic. They're anachronistic, in my opinion, just as are pith helmets and sneakers and rubber tires. A setting where everything is in it isn't a setting at all. It's just an anything-goes mess.
Golarion, and any fantasy world, is defined as much by what's not in it as it is by what IS in it. And there's no saxophones in it.

So the party in my campaign has become a little cumbersome. There are 5 players, but thanks to familiars, animal companions, cohorts and (the cohort's) eidolons there are 9 individuals in the party and two of them are usually large (the Roc AC and it's Druid master in his most common Dire Tiger form) so you can imagine, it gets crowded.
Any advice on how to handle such a big lot?

What would happen if the Tarrasque somehow made it into the Starstone Cathedral?
One suggestion at our table was that it comes back out with an indestructible chew toy - in a sense, a great treasure.
It would probably ruin the cathedral and then move on, leaving it broken, but the idea of it swallowing the starstone and wandering off with it is certainly intriguing.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Speaking of Tarry, when it goes on its rampages does it do so based on hunger and security reasons or being a Spawn of Rovagug is their any malevelonce in its thoughts and actions?
It's not because of hunger, but also not due to directed evil or chaos. It just does. It's like a volcano that walks.

Yeah; if you're not willing to just be patient and accept the fact that you'll be getting less done in a session since everyone's turns take so much longer, you might want to let the PCs know your concerns. If all of THEM are still having fun with the slower paced sessions, maybe there's no problem. If it's still unrewarding for you, though, it might be time for you to ask the players if they wouldn't mind leaving the cohorts at home and having the familiars take a more background role. Not much you can do about animal companions and eidolons and that means players will probably get frustrated at perceptions of favoritism. If it's REALLY bad, consider wrapping up the campaign and then next time limiting pet classes and Leadership if you have more than 4 players.
I had, for a while, a group of 9 players, one of whom was a summoner. It was taking forever to get through sessions, and folks were losing attention due to the crowded table, so at a natural break point in the campaign I split the group in half and now run two different groups of 5 players with no summoner.
That solution might not work for you, alas, with only 5 players.

Actually, ask the players about Animal Companions too. My Spell-less Ranger in RotRL leaves his Griffon AC outside any time we adventure in a closed environment. This way, I can still get some use out of its special abilities (fly and once Pounce) but it usually stays off the table. It works wonders for the Companion's life expectancy too ;-)
You might ask the Eidolon to leave its familiar (aka the Summoner PC) at home :-P

Huh. The tarrasque walking into Cathedral and coming back out with the Starstone itself in its belly was not the answer I was expecting at all. But that is cool.
Hmmm, a question.
How much involvement did you have with Chronicles of the Righteous?
Analysis |
You mentioned earlier that, as you envision it, a Mythic cleric character can have the demigod-like ability to grant spells to others, but still needs something else to be a priest of for their own spellcasting. This reminds me of how Great Cthulhu, definitely granting spells, is also said to be High Priest of the Outer Gods.
However, on that note, could a Mythic high-level oracle grant themselves spells and just be powered by their own innate divine nature? I somehow see Nyarlathotep (in the form of the Black Man of the Sabbath, the wanderer through time and space) as such an oracle (though the case could also arguably be made for Nyarlathotep as the cleric or herald of Azathoth...).
More specifically, can you see a Mythic oracle granting its own spells, on the premise that it has become a being of Mythic power?

EDIT: Actually... let's wait until the book's actually out to talk in detail about Mythic Adventures.
