Wait for new print of CRB?

Product Discussion

Hi,

I just checked the shop to buy myself a copy of the Core Rulebook, but it seems they are temporarily out of print. I did find an available copy on another webstore however.

Should I wait for the Paizo-shop to restock? Will the newly printed books have corrected rules, errata, added content, etc? Or will it be the same book and is there no reason for me to wait?

Also, is the quality of the binding and the paper still as bad as it was several years ago? I read a lot of comments complaining about that. I wouldn't keep me from buying the book, I'm just asking out of interest.. and not to get my hopes up too high :)

Oo I didn't notice that, thanks.

Fwiw, I'd wait and get it from here (since the sixth printing is likely to have a few corrected typos/errata and so forth - it won't have any additional content though). It's not a great drama anyway, since they always produce an update document for each print run showing any changes between previous printings and the most recent.

The binding seemed much worse in the first couple of printings. I've had no issues with the third, fourth or fifth print runs. It's unclear whether that's a real thing though or just luck of the draw - after all, not many people feel compelled to start threads declaring "my book hasn't fallen apart".

Ask the shop to place an order with its distributor.

If the distributor doesn't have copies, the distributor can order more from Paizo.

It's possible that your shop's distributor may have run out, or is running low and is waiting on another order from Paizo to fill up their stock before sending any out to stores.

I think Zergaloth is saying that the Paizo web-store itself was out of stock, or at least seemed to be. I just checked, and I do not see any issues with it here.

Yeah, I checked that page and it was showing as a back order. Presumably a glitch, by the sounds.

The 5th printing (current one) had quite a few important updates. I don't think the 6th will have all that much different. I'd aim for a 5th if you can though. However, as Steve says, you can just download the errata sheets for whichever printing you get.

Alright, thanks everyone. Seems the Paizo Webshop has been updated and the book is back on the shelves. I just thought maybe there was a new printing coming out... Buying now!

Liberty's Edge

I still have my first printing and it's fine. Binding issues are all about luck of the draw and how well you take care of your books. Sometimes you just get the book that got less glue or something.

We haven't seen a new printing in a while. I think sales are slowing down a little. Plus the 5th printing was a large one. No one knows when the 6th printing will happen.

Shadow Lodge

Will the new printing have the updated rules for stealth?

Ha ha, just joking

Actually, it might. Jason hinted at upcoming errata regarding Steath in his "ask Jason any question" thread. And considering Paizo's errata policy, that would probably mean a new printing, too.

Sorry, you'll have to get up earlier then! :)

"Updated rules for stealth...." I didn't see that coming.

Thank you! I'm here all week! Try the veal!

Is a 6th printing actually on the horizon?

They're not going to tell until it's out.

Just dreaming, but, what if Paizo push the boat out, and -

2013 :- we get a 6th Printing with errata, (i.e. Stealth, Grapple etc), now that would be great.

2014 :- On the anniversary of Pathfinder 1st print run, we get a Leather Bound copy printed on Premium Paper - Not that would be something!

Or at least a copy, with a 1 off new cover, to celebrate.

Y'know, I really do like the idea of alternate covers (or even just a different color) when the time comes to reprint.

That'd be pretty swanky.
