Instead of an edit I deleted it by accident... sorry.

Yes the Tailypo being a unique variant of Bauk would be sweet!

I said something like: The Tailypo (Being a freaky child bedtime story) suits really well in Bestiary 4 which has creatures like Grendel, Nosferatu and Bodysnatchers in it, all from books and movies!

I was obsessed by the Tailypo a couple of months ago and wished for it multiple times in the Bestiary 4 wish topic so there is a chance it may be in the Bestiary 4! I really hope so as Tailypo would be both scary, nostalgic and in for some awesome scenario's and stories!

...wait... is that the thing that wanted its tail back? I think I remember that from my childhood...

...I'm gonna go hide in the closet now.

You wrote 100% what I was thinking... especially with especially the Spawn of Tiamat! Yuck!

Well... the Spawn were interesting ideas, but man, they flooded the book too quickly, and many of them felt uninspired.

- Black, Green, Red and White got a playable race, but not Blue.
- Many of the designs looked like standard monsters with the half-dragon template.

Ikiryou!

Tailypo the movie

Especially for Evil Midnight Lurker!

And JiCi, the Dragonspawn are really my least favorite creatures of D&D ever, only the Hill Giant, Hobgoblin, Giff and Modrons are worse in my opinion.

That one was even in 1st edition Oriental Adventures, IIRC.

Things i want to see are:
- Fantastical animals and vermin that are categorized as animals and vermin and not as magical beasts and/or aberrations and are a little more than an unusually large version of a real animal.
- Moar dinosaurs, charcharodontosaurus and amphicoelias as the largest representatives of their respective genuses.
- Mogwai
- Actual Squirrels
- Squirrel swarms
- Carnivorous dire squirrels (i can even provide concept art, as i have a pretty good idea of what those should look like)
- Playable squirrel people
- Playable actual undead and construct races.
- Sentient dinosaur-themed races, including playable velociraptor people.

I do like me some squirrels.

Also wat would be nice is a short article on if and where each monster can be found on golarion. The later 3.5 monster manuals did this with Faerûn and Eberron.

The chance of getting carnivorous or evil squirrels is slim tho, I remember there were some black evil squirrels in one of the last Monster Manuals of D&D Skiriuds or something and they keep ending up on the worst-monsters-of-d&d-of-all-times-lists so I think Pathfinder won't make the same mistake.

I never minded these evil squirrels and they have my vote, but chances are slim after the fail of the D&D squirrels.

Yet they've brought back plenty of monsters that were on those lists, such as wolf-in-sheep's-clothings, flumphs, those rainbow colored wolfheaded bird things of which i forgot the name, etc.

What I want is more celestials (so I can contribute more to the Aasimar appearance thread) and cryptic mythological monsters. Like the stuff you'd find in Aboriginal or Hindu myths. The latter can also help prepare for the Vudra book whenever that comes up.

Dark Archive

how about some comepletly new stuff, no mythology related, not from other fantasy settings, give us something new!

You are a little late with this comment as all the overused stuff (Hydra, Minotaur) is already in the books, now you give creatures that never had a chance to shine a hard kick...

Then you must put your hope on a Misfit Monsters book 2! I know I do!

Dark Archive

actually I was asking for 1-3 new things, just so when one opens B5 they'll go "hey, I have no idea what that is"

I wouldn't mind seeing the Amanojaku, basically a goblin-analogue for Japan/ the Dragon Empires.

Oh also a species of hive type monsters, an analogue to Starcrafts Zerg, W40k's tyranids, Aliens's xenomorphs or MTG's slivers, that would be real nice.

Sincubus wrote:

Hill giants are your typical giant in many folklore.

Hobgoblins are the military part of the rather roguish goblins, which makes a good balance.
Giff... are awkward... were they the hippo-headed beings from SpaceJammer?
Modrons were decent, considering that Mechanus was filling with clockworks.

The Spawn of Tiamat were just NOT well-designed. They could have been regular drakes and someone would have noticed.

I think the Dragonspawn were too-much-dragons, i'm not a dragon-addict like many people so that's why I probably didn't like them, I did like the Draconians and Drakkoths (Lizardmen/dragon centaurs) tho. I like those as leaders of the Lizardmen.

Hill Giants are bland and I use the smaller Ogres for that role, also Stone Giants are my earth-based giants.

Hobgoblins are just like Orcs and Gnolls in my opinion (but orcs and gnolls look better for me), just never liked that everybody adored them so much while I couldn't see the awesomness in them, I just saw a boring goblin/orc wannabee... Their war-organized stuff I use in Bugbears, their passion of taming and enslaving wild beasts goes to Troglodytes and Lizardmen, and also Bugbears.

I actually like Hobgoblins, but most of the other stuff you mentioned I agree with to an extent.

Aberration based playable race.
-forms a "shell" to look like the race it was raced by so it can look like any humanoid but same racial abilities.
-not a true shapeshifter so form is fixed at birth.
-+2 Con +2 Int -2 to Wis or Cha
-Immune to confusion and Insanity effects.
-Slam attack with tentacle that an arm can become.

More Plant player based races.
-tree based one.
-cactus based one.
-flower based one.

-one that fey touched human like aasimar, tiefling, etc. but fey.
-one that is small size full blooded fey.
-one that is medium size full blooded fey.

Monstrous humanoid playable races.

Giant blooded player race

More amphibians
We need more slick heros and more slimy enemys.

More Kami
Ihika (Tailed man or kami from wells and springs)
Iwaosiwake (Tailed Man or Kami from cave)
They are savants of First Emperor Jinmu.
Hiruko (Boneless Kami of Sea)
Magatsuhi (Kami of disaster)

I am wishing for more nature spirits. If they are made into more Kami with no specific cultural precedent, that would be just as well. The Ward ability is something that almost all spirits should have, including nymphs and dryads.

Also, a great thing would be a lot more "fictional wildlife". There is already a good amount with dire animals, giant vermin, dinosaurs, and megafauna, but I think there easily is room for a lot more. Most monsters are either humanoid or really big and powerful. But in a fictional ecosystem, there would also be lots of new lizards, birds, herbivores, rodents, fish, and even other things that have no real world equivalent at all.

(Yes, I am wishing for everything that would be of great use for a prehistoric campaign world.)

More familiars
-tiny to small size dragons, one that looks like an imperial dragon, one that has a drake/wyvern body shape that breaths fire, one that looks like a linnorm, etc.
-Ooze that is not acidic so you can carry it with you.
-Monstrous humanoid ones
-Aberration based ones, maybe one blue/green with tentacles, flying jellyfish, starfish like one, symbiotic ones, etc.
-Some plant based ones, some humanoid in shape, some not.
-More fey type ones.
-Some undead ones, skeletal bats, ghostly rats, etc.
-Some more types of Homunculi, tiny constructs, robots, etc.
-Adding Atomie, Soulbound Doll, and some of the Leshy to the improved familiar list would be nice.

How about super Kaiju! The Kaiju that makes other Kaiju seem like ants! Lol!

Too big?

Is it ever big enough for you guys? :-P

I'd like to see a quadrupedal player race which isn't tauric. Perhaps a medium-sized species of sauropod which can wield weapons in it's mouth and tail, instead of arms. Mechanically no different, but rich in flavor.

On the outsider front, I want to more varieties of Asuras, Kytons, and Proteans.

I also agree with Ulgulanoth about making some brand new monsters. I'd love to see some really out there stuff in the next one.

On the subject of Kaiju and super Kaiju...

How about some sort of clinging rules for monsters that are Huge/Gargantuan/Colossal sized?

I mean...think like Shadow of the Colossus game...why can't I cling to a scale on the back of an Ancient Wyrm?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Quadrupedal non tauric race...so magical talking ponies...well kidding aside we don't have a playable tauric race.

A monster made of liquid metal like the T1000.

Incorporeal creatures that do not energy drain, magically age, or cause ability damage. some with ghost touch natural attacks would be nice, use cha instead str for damage.

A incorporeal element would be interesting and other incorporeal non-undead.

More non-animal/vermin swarms, particularly aberrations, magical beast, plants, constructs, and elementals. A pigmy dragon swarm, full grown tiny(or fine) size dragons that do extra energy damage based on color, I would say 1 damage per 1 or 2 HD.
Dragon color
Red(fire)
Orange(Acid)
Yellow(Electricity)
green(Poison)
Blue(Cold)
Indigo(Sonic)
Violet(Force)

Monster who's severed heads become animate, can fly, and attack.

Creatures that feed off of emotions other then fear such as love, hate, anger, joy, etc.

More non-outsider sin based monsters.

Creature that only attacks those that is senses negative emotions from.

More monsters that use good luck abilities instead of causing bad luck.

Shadow of the Colossus creatures are actually a lot more like living dungeons than creatures within the d20 rules. You need Acrobatics and Climb to get at their weak point and don't grapple them, and they are also invulnerable to regular attacks anywhere on their bodies.

For creatures from the Adventure Paths, I rather propose an "Adventure Path Creature Compendium" than stuffing them into the Bestiaries. That way people who don't have the APs can buy that and have the creatures in print, and those people who already do have them don't need to buy it.

Undead fossils.

Superhero-like monsters or templates.

Dire skunks (not scary in combat, but with a ranged touch that causes stench, and gives opponents a perception check to smell the affected character from a distance).

Monsters from the future (from a possible future at least). There was a PF adventuring featuring soldiers from WWI, why not goblin or orc soldiers with WWI or other era weaponry? Either travelling back to conquer the world, obtain magic items that are rare in the future, or prevent a catastraphe.

The heroic Longcat!

And of course, the dread counterpart, Tacgnol.

I think Pazio should revisit the common house cat stat block...it is sorely does not reflect the true power of the common feline.

I mean previous edition we could kill a 1st level wizard...now we can't.

We have never been given anything to represent our towering intellects, our abilities to influence weak willed creature(like humans), or our abilty to always jump out and scare people.

It is like Pazio is runned by those poor confused humans who like dogs or something.

Sorry about that folks my cat jumped on my computer while I was away.

I would like to see some good creatures of the night.

Also converslky more evil creatures of Light.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Construct creature(s) that cannot stand the presence of organic life.

More creatures from the positive energy plane that can...
-channel positive like a cleric.
-natural attacks act as disruption weapons.
-can lay on hands like a paladin.
-can "steal" healing spells and abilities from nearby enemies to heal itself.
-has an aura that grants allies fast healing.

More non-evil aberrations.

More non-evil light based creatures.

Creatures from the dimension of dreams that can...
-grant boons to those who's dreams it enters.
-takes the forms of child hood toys and imaginary friends.
-can harm evil dream creatures like night hags, animate dreams, etc.
-can physical manifest in the "real world".

Creatures from the dimension of time that can...
-aura that acts as a slow spell.
-can manipulate time such as time travel, stopping time, etc.
-can teleport as a move action.
-can see into the past, present, or future with clarity.
-can age a creature or make them young.

More monsters that alter matter, baleful polymorph, petrification, turn lead into gold, etc.

Creatures that can create specific types of magic items without feats, spells, etc. something like a fey that can make X amount of potions or an outsider that can forge any weapon, etc.

More monsters with alchemist related abilities.

A monster with an animal companion or familiar without class levels.

A monster with X-ray vision.

More supernaturally quick monsters with base land speeds at a 100+

A creature that can see in infra-red like predator.

A creature who pretends to be in danger, rewards those that help it but curses those that ignore it or try to hurt it.

Magical book worm that gains knowledge and power by eating books.

Nice :)

The Shota from Castrovel. The Blood Boar and Emerald Owls from Razmiran.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

-Plant creature template to make other creatures like animals, vermin, magical beast, humanoids, etc. into plant versions and the template is not mold/fungi based but green leafy type plants.

-Swanmay as a 0HD playable race.

-Creatures that always know when someone is lying.

-Creature that can sense sinners/sin as if it had blindsight and scent.

-Creature that see through the eyes of it's spawn or lesser creatures like rats, bats, ants, etc.

-More magic eating monsters.

-More monsters that are weapon immune but are not swarms.

-Natural predator for Oozes, maybe a non-evil aberration or magical beast.

-Creature whose touch is destructive to constructs and inorganic life in general.

-Creature that fools people into thinking it can and has granted them wishes.

-Creature who can disrupt telepathy and psychical harm those that are actively using telepathy.

-Creature that can sense that something will teleport near it and can act to disrupt it or attack the teleporting target(s).

-Creature that feeds on the water in living things.

-Corporeal creature that can phase through objects/matter like Shadow Cat of X-men.

-A creature that has power over animals, animals will not attack it, it can change into any animal, and is part many animals. Maybe even the ability to inflict a random type of lyconthropy on humanoids.

- Kyuubi. I love the Kitsune as the mischievous tricksters they are, but would love to see something more based on the darker sort of myths and lore they are just as often associated with. The soul-sucking, demonic, fox creatures that charm humanoids for very evil reasons.

This would be the Nogitsune Oni from one of the Pathfinder AP's Bestiaries.

I wish for a Kitsune that isn't so humanoid. Kumiho or Kyuubi could be use for this rule, just a 9-tailed fox that is unable to take humanoid forum, maybe with illusions tho, but he art must be 9-tailed fox.

Okami's Ninetails... that is all :)

-The various lizard mounts the Lashunta use and more creatures from Distant Worlds in general.

-Creature that feeds off of minerals/metals(salt, iron, etc.) from a living creature.

-Creature that can only shapeshift into inanimate objects such as weapons, armor, furniture, etc.

-Construct who has a magic ring or wondrous magic item as a key component in it's creation(and also benefits from the item) and when destroyed it always leaves this item as treasure.

-Monster that can control any construct creature.

-Aberration that spits out oozes and is immune to there abilities.

-More creatures from the Conan books.

-Mudmen, Ravid, Eye of the Deep, and Arrow Hawk(if they do not make it into the Bestiary 4 of course).

-More monsters that can turn themselves into swarms and/or made of swarms.

-Monster that can transform someone into a tiny doll as a curse.

I think the Conan RPG Bestiary is rather underwhelming. There's not much creatures in it that I'd want to use in a pathfinder game. Most are simply demon-ghouls or demon-monkeys.

IIRC Erik or James did say that Eye of the Deep was a bit too close for comfort to Beholder and won't be used again.

Well, it IS a variant beholder and has always been very clear about it. They are about as doubious as neothelids, except that WotC actually put those into the SRD, giving legal clearity. Still an odd thing to have neothelids but not illithids in a world.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Yeah, but neothelids are totally different from illithids in appearance, whereas EotD is just a beholder with claws, and it's really hard to do an artwork of one and making it NOT resemble a beholder.

Weren't Neothelids overgrown Mind Flayer tadpoles?

Yeah they were just overgrown mutated tadpoles but in pathfinder they are lot cooler then that.

Gorbacz, were did you hear that one about the eye of the deep?

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

It's buried somewhere in the LoF forum, IIRC. Basically James said they wanted to make an EoD that didn't look beholderish, that didn't exactly work, and in the end decided that it's pretty much not in line with their "we're not going to make Eyestalk Orbs, Teleportation Cats or other almost-but-not-quite copies of WotC IP" policy.

I'm sad we can't see the Coeurl reprinted for Pathfinder. I loved the displacer beast.
