If you're Cajun, does that mean your last name might have been spelled d'Aigle (of the Eagle) at some point in the past?

(Cause that'd be a pretty cool last name, if you ask me.)

Correct! The first d'Aigles in North America were a trio of brothers who came over to settle Nova Scotia before the expulsion. One of them was Chevalier d'Aigle (which is a pretty bad ass name!) I was enamored with it as a youngster.
You realize that's means "Eagle Knight" and the guy settled a place called Arcadia (in Latin) in our world (Golarion analogue...? Arcadia?). Doesn't Andoran have a colony in Arcadia?

Yep, I realize the meaning of the name. :) It's kind of a hard thing to not notice when you're an impressionable kid with a big imagination and your aunts and grandparents were good about tracking the family lines. (Even though an Italian map maker called it Arcadia and the French later dropped the "r" to make it Acadia [Acadian -> Cajun].)

And yes, Andoran is one of the few countries that supposedly have Arcadian colonies.

Given the number of new monsters from folklore and myth that could appear in Arcadia I think you would make an excellent head developer for that continent... Just sayin'

What's the scariest thing in Golarion's universe, in your opinion?

The preponderance of dimensions, planes, and outsiders. Outside of that, the negative elements of human nature.

Huh. I was thinking more in terms of a specific being, but that's actually a very good answer.

Okay, more specific question this time. What's the most adorable of the available familiars to arcane spellcasters? What's your favorite?

Hmm, that's tough. There are some pretty adorable critters a spellcaster could choose. I'd probably go with otter, sloth, goat, or platypus or some kind of bug for normal familiars. For Improved Familiar options, I'd probably go with a nosoi, faerie dragon, or brownie.

Yeah, that's what I imagined in my head, actually, the plush viruses and bacteria, at first. I think the plague mask is a nice hint of their RW origins, though, actually.

Adam, whats your thoughts on the concept of "a big class book" for pathfinder?

What do you mean?

Dark Archive

say you saw a 3pp book with a tone of new classes in it, what would you think?

Paizo Employee Developer

That depends on the classes and the folks producing them.

I'm woefully behind on trying new classes out. I meant to play something I've never played before in the newest game I'm in, but the party needed a cleric, so I went back to that old standby.

Why is the flag of Numeria a white mountain, as opposed to a Silver Mountain?

White is cheaper than silver and easier for people to produce.

If you could pic 10 monsters from movies/TV shows that you could use for pathfinder without legal issue, what would they be?

You can pic anything even if copyrighted.

Here's a crazy time-paradox question.

Let's say a party needed to go back in time for some reason, so they search out a Time Dragon. The Time Dragon can only use his Time Travel ability three times in its lifetime and the PCs use the dragon's last use.

If the PCs search out that same time dragon in the past, would its past-self still possesses one use, or would you pull a paradox? (You used its one remaining use in the past, so you could never use it in the present, so you could never have gone to the past and use its one remaining use in the past, so you actually do go to the past and use its one remaining use ....)

Although I suppose a better GM would be claim that the PCs use the dragon's third use to go to the past and its second use to go home to the future. ;-)

That's tough. First, I can't think of a single time I wanted to make a monster and couldn't because of legal issues. I get most of my monster inspiration from folklore and not TV or movies (unless of course they were dipping into the same well). Also, many of the creatures from popular media are already monsters in the game with minor flavor changes.

I tried to come up with a list of stuff from movies and only ended up with prawns from District 9, Clovie from Cloverfield (and the weird spawn critters), and Moya from Farscape. I'd love to have permission from the Burroughs estate to do a mugwump (which I guess technically counts as a movie monster because of the Cronenberg film), but that's the only thing I can really think of that I couldn't do otherwise, and then it's only for the name and appearance (the concept and mechanics are free and clear).

C): The attempt at creating a paradox creates a circumstance where (as mentioned in The Great Beyond) entities preventing paradoxes in the time-stream are summoned. Be they inevitables that police the laws of time itself, or an Aeon that prevents damage to the temporal continuum (think of the Aeons as the white blood cells of the cosmos, and the inevitables as planar police.)

The end result is one Time Dragon in a lot of trouble.

While brethedans sometimes use oma as starships, oma are far from the leviathans of Farscape.

Hi,

I already asked James Jacobs about that but i think i want to hear others opnions about the subject. What do you think about the lack of african looking divine beings like the Orishas from the Yoruba pantheon in Golarion ? I know that the Mwangi still haven't been completely explored, but at least some empyreal lords could appear in the future for them ? You have heard about the Yoruba before ?

I've certainly heard of Orishas and the Yoruba religion, though most of my contact with it was in a Caribbean or Cuban context more than west Africa. I could totally see something like this getting some love when we do more stuff with Garund (or maybe even Arcadia).

Yeah, totally. Check Pathfinder #39 for Mike Shel's article. It'd be fun to expand on that sometime in the future.

Going back to Orishas, it was a pleasant surprise to see William Gibson use them in his novel Spook Country.

I ll check about that, thanks. Speaking of Arcadia, as a Brazilian, i would love to see more from the culture from South America (aside from Incas). We had the Gaucho kit from the Red Steel setting and that was it.

More often than not, the native american culture only reach the amazon basin and stops there. The culture from the rest of south america is often forgotten.

We see very little from things like:

- The Tupi
- The Guarani
- and their mythology
- The Cangaçeiros
- The Capoeira
- And our monsters

I don't know about siege vehicles. I think they'd be weird flying vehicles and the two races could dogfight in the air in them!

Maybe.

Manfred Albrecht Flumpherr von Richthofen, reporting for Duty!

Dogfights are cool, but I still like the idea of a Lone Flumph taking on a group of Lunarma descending upon em, Invading if you will, in a very systematic fashion.

Cohort for sure. They are a bit too big to be familiars, and if we thought that was the right way to go we would have put it in the Bestiary entry. Plus, as a cohort, they can take class levels.

K, and now the tougher question:

Straight up Paladin Flumph or Inquisitor/Spherewalker of Desna...

I'd go bard or sorcerer, but considering their stats, your ideas are both probably more sound.
