Looking for one replacement player for Jade Regent (towards the end of the first bok)

Recruitment

After our cleric had to drop because of time constraints we are right now down to 4 players and I would like to take on another player.
Note: This is not a dead or dying game, we would also go on with 4 if no replacement if found, but 5 is more comfortable.

The group is level 3 right now, so please build your application accordingly (you will be about 1 level higher than what the campaign expects for most of the time, encounters are adjusted).

Here the original BIG 16:

Spoiler:

1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?

Pathfinder

2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?

We'll play the Pathfinder Adventure Path "Jade Regent". With some old friends you make'll the long journey from Sandpoint to the distant land of Minkai to uncover an old conspiracy and save the kingdom from the rule of evil spirits.

3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?

One or if I really like what I see maybe two more players.

4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?

Paizo forum PbP with some added maps on googledocs.
I expect at least about one post per day on average.

5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?

The group is level 3 by now.

6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?

WBL = 3000

7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?

All Paizo is allowed, 3.5 material requires approval (but will most likely be allowed as long as it is reasonable converted/convertible). Not a big fan of homebrew, but if you REALY want something you can ask.

Try to build well working characters without going to cheesy levels as in the end I can and will veto anything that breaks the game or the other players fun. Should someone find himself loosing to much ground towards the other characters I might give him some boon, but don't expect me to artificially fix up your brokenly weak character and better ask for advise beforehand.

8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?

Nothing to exotic please, afterall you have to be somewhat accepted into human society.

9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?

Ability Scores: Let's try a 3d6+1, if you don't like it take 25 point buy. (Yes, I know it's high, but I don't like locking people out of MAD classes)

Hitpoints: Max for the first two hitdice, afterwards the better of a diceroll and half.

10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?

Basic rules on alignment, Be able to work together, Don't be a ****.

11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?

Standard pathfinder multi-classing rules.

12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?

You'll make most of your rolls in your posts, I'll take some of your passive checks to speed things up. I'll usually also roll most thinks open. No fudging for or against you, if you die, you die. While I'll let initiative decide things when it matters everyone if free to post once he can to speed things up.

13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.

Traits: You get two traits.

Caravan Rules: We are mostly not using them.

14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?

Something decent please, that gives me an idea of who your character is, what motivates them, and how they're connected to the world and the NPC's. You should pick one of the campaign traits and work it into your backstory or give me a good reason why you don't. Since you come in this late you might as well skip the campaign trait and be a stranger they meet. If you want you can still take one and say you stayed with the caravan so far. It doesn't have to be long, but it should answer those general points.

15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?

A mix of all as typical for an paizo adventure path.

16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?

See Question 7.

Also, to all those applying, please read the Jade Regent Player's Handbook.
And I would prefer if no one applies only to drop out after a few days or weeks.

This character is currently in a Jade Regent game - in the middle of book 1 (just finished with the swamp). But there hasn't been a post in the past 3 weeks, so I'm afraid the game has died. Would really like to keep playing. I can adjust the stats to what I roll or to 25 point buy (currently a 20 point buy)...

OOps, forgot to roll - here are my rolls:

3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 5) + 1 = 13
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) + 1 = 14
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) + 1 = 18

ok those could have been better, but I'll be happy with them as it is a 27 point buy... I would love to keep playing Jade Regent with this character. I will adjust the character, and build him with wbl if he's accepted. Until then, everything is in the profile - background and all.

I look forward to your selections.

Are there any roles that need to be filled in your gaming group? was thinking about doing a half elf bonded hedge witch and wanted to know if that would work in your group.
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 6, 4) + 1 = 15
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) + 1 = 18
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 1) + 1 = 11
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 6) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) + 1 = 11
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 5, 5) + 1 = 12

dotting for intrest

Dotting for interest...never played this one before and some of my campaigns are sluggish so I have time for another after all.
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 1) + 1 = 5
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1, 6) + 1 = 9
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 3) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 6) + 1 = 11
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) + 1 = 16

EDIT: Ouch. Yeah, I think I'd go for the 25 point set instead if allowed.

Dotting for interest before I go to bed.
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) + 1 = 14
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) + 1 = 16
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 3) + 1 = 13
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 4) + 1 = 17
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 5) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3, 2) + 1 = 11

Right now the group still consists off:

Elf Magus/Barbarian (don't ask...)
Elf Wizard
Human (Beastmorph/Vivisectionist)Alchemist/Monk
Oread (Menhir Savant) Druid (mostly melee)

So the 5th character could be pretty much everything.

Do you specifically only want a healer, because it looks like you could really use a skill monkey, too.... let me know if you'd rather I submit a healer, but I really want to continue running my rogue in this AP.

Liberty's Edge

I think a bard would be fantastic for this group! pick up a few healing spells, some battlefield control spells, and can make a party face for this CHA dump team lol

3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 3) + 1 = 123d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 3) + 1 = 143d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) + 1 = 93d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) + 1 = 113d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) + 1 = 113d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 3) + 1 = 10

And I think I'll go with 25 point buy lol. Tomorrow I'll update Yix, but if you want you can check out the flavor in his profile. He's had a few other games fall out from under him at various stages so he's been re-created quite a few times

Also, is catfolk ok?

I have a concept for a support Cleric of Desna. Friendly older man who after having given his word to accompany the mission finds himself adventuring again after many years of a tame life. The build I have in mind is rather mad so let's ask the dice gods if they want to support it.

3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 6, 1) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2, 6) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 3) + 1 = 12
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) + 1 = 13
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) + 1 = 10

Edit: Guess not...25 pt buy it is then...

Thus skill monkey is ok.

I' a bit wary of catfolk, but also have no problem with them as long as it is played well.

I have a 2 characters I would like to submit for consideration.

As a question about the cleric do you allow variant channeling? If not I would just change it. I just find regular channeling fairly limited at higher levels.

Backgound:

Ayaka is a young, happy and most would say reckless young man.

He remebers not when he was born nor much of his childhood. What he does remember of it was not happy times.

He knows he was an orphan, found in the streets by a wandering riest of Desna. That moment is the only clear memory he has of his childhood. That nice elderly man stopping to give him a few coins to buy food with. When Ayaka looked up at the man to thank him Ayaka was stunned when the man gasped.

Ayaka was used to people gasping when they saw him. He was a very handsome child bright eyes clean skin with a pleasing shape and look. His appearance was marred only by a small birthmark that had started to appear on his forehead. What at first was a formless mass seemed to be cleare every day.

Yet when Ayaka looked into this mans eyes it was not revulsion at the birthmark that marred his otherwise beautiful face. It was a look of reverence. It was not until afew years later that Ayaka would learn from that same kindly old man that took him what it meant. It was the mark of Desna.

Ayaka spent about 5 years with father Zantus in Sandoint. He learned the way of Desna and what it meant to be a cleric bringing that wod to the people.

Ayaka eventually grew bored with his time in the temple and went to tell father Zantus of his wish to leave. He was shocked again by the kindly old man who merely smiled and said "It is about time you spread your wings." With that Ayaka resolved to travel the world helping where he could and seeing as much as he could.

He still liked to stop by and visit his mentor no matter where he was. It was one of these visits to Sandpoint where Ayaka first met Ameiko. He quickly became freinds with her sensing a kinderd spirit in her. He would often regale her with tales of his travels to far off lands. He knew that she was frustrated with her life in the small town but only stayed because of her family.

Thus it was no surprise to him that when he returned to Sandpoint that she was gone. However, he was shocked and saddend to hear of the events that had plagued the town and her since his last visit.

Ayaka decided to see if he could catch up to Ameiko. It would be fun to travel with a freind if only for awhile.

However, it was shortly after that when Ayaka started to dream at night. These were not the usual happy dreams Desna sent to him. He dreamed of Ameiko wrapped in a shroud of darkness growing ever tighter. He must hurry.

Background
Dear Sister

My dear sister it pains me to tell you our father is dead.

It happened a ornight ago and I only now have the strength to relate the events to you as they were related. to me.

It all started after the death of Lord Huei. That pig of a son of his, Amaya, had taken over before his fathers body was cold. He had changed most of his councillors and banished most of them with the exception of father.

Though there was no way he could, father was the leader of his army and a most respected and loyal man. That all changed the night father was summoned to the trial of one of his lords peasants.

It is here where the detail becomes sketchy but from what I have learned. The man was accused of striknig out against one of the new "Lords" cronies. Amaya ordered his execution but father wanted to know why he struck the man.

The man plead with father saying he had only struck the man because he was attempting to accost his daughter. Father being who he was would never allow this man to be executed for that. He apparently challenged the ruling of Amaya. When he would not stand down weapons were apparently drawn. Father struck down three of his guards before being killed himself.

I know no more of what happened other then that father had struck a blow against Amaya in self defense that eventually led to Amaya's death. I take no small comfort in the death of the man that would betray his honor as a lord to his people.

I learned of this when I was summoned back from a diplomatic mission. Amaya's younger brother was not shy in relating the detals to me. He then asked me to take over for my father as his new general. A role father has groomed me for years to take.

Sister I have refused him. I broke my sword before his eyes and tossed the scraps on the seps before his shocked face. I told him that the honor of this family was broken and that I could not serve loyally that which I do not believe in. I left his hall never to return.

So now I am Ronin. I feel an emptiness that must be filled. I wil take with me my fathers loyalty to the people and to the friends I find along the way. Maybe someday dear sister I will find something of meaning for me. Do not look for me as my status is a boil on the name of our family.

Until I see you again worry not for me. I can take care of myself.

Your Humblest brother Chun.

PS. Do not worry about fathers sword. I have it with me. One of his freinds who held honor higher then the needs of a corrupt lord smuggled it out to me. I carry it now with me and hope that I can honor the tradition forged into the blade like father did. Farewell.

Appearance: Tall lean young man who has clearly trained for many years already even at such a young age. He keps his hair tied back tighly in the fashion of a samurai.

Habits: Meditates every mornig to calm himself for the coming day.

Personality: Even tempered and a calm decision maker. Has been labeled a born leader as well as a master of the sword like his father. He will defend the meek or the rich provided it is just to do so. He does not believe in or follow laws that he would consider corrupt or self serving.

Liberty's Edge

Yix is one of my characters that's more focused on role playing than anything else. He tries to talk his way through most situations

edit: I think I've got him mostly updated to lv 3. I probably have some of my skill modifiers skrewed up since bards skill modifiers are so volatile per level, i'll look into that in detail tonight

Here's my proposed character Marlon 'Brother' Bear. I haven't finalized his equipment but I' likely spend most of my cash on a few more wands and scrolls to have something for every occasion.

Background:

Marlon was born as the son of a merchant from Korsova almost 40 years ago. From an early age onward he would travel the untamed wilds of Varisia with his parents. As the travelling folk of Korvosa are always friendly among one another this was the first time he encountered the Mvashti. Back then Koya was still an attractive young lady who greatly impressed the young Marlon with her divine powers and enthralled him with tales of Desna.
Times were dangerous for travelers then, even more so than they are today. And one night during a Goblin raid Marlon’s parents were killed. Marlon who had just turned 10 managed to escape into the woods but had to watch his parents caravan being burned out. The wilds were no good place for a young boy on his lonesome but fortunately a caravan of traveling Halfling entertainers found the young lad and took him along. Seeing that he was all on his own and had no better place to go, staying with the cheerful smallfolk seemed as good a place as any. Of course his new family tried to teach him tricks and songs, but it appeared Marlon had little talent. Whenever they gave a show they stuck the broad youth into a bear costume and let him be the bear that was too dumb to dance, which is how he received his last name.
Incidentally his band of halflings was also befriended with the Mvashti family and travelled with them from time to time. During these travels Niska and Koya saw a special gift for the divine in the young Marlon and sought to bring closer to him the teachings of Desna. Seeing the young man’s talents the Mvashti’s advised him to join the temple in Korvosa and begin training as a priest.
After having spent many years on the road with this Halfling family Marlon reluctantly settled back down in Korsova and began to train as a priest. His adventuring days came to an end as he was assigned as the bodyguard of Father Zestoran an older priest and instructed cadets on the training grounds. He also found a lovely and caring with with whom has three children. Whenever his Halfling family or the Mvashti came to town he would gladly host them and share tales of old times but has only rarely left Korvosa for the last 20 years. But now father Zestoran has passed away and a certain priestess whom he greatly admired was setting out on a grand adventure, a grand adventure Marlon had sworn her late mother he would accompany her on.

[Appearance]
Marlon is tall man, broad of shoulder and especially of waist. His face is round and friendly but few would consider him comely. The fact that only a few thin hairs adorn his pate does not make him any more attractive. He tends to prefer the simple robes of a monk to better hide his sizable belly and bushy black body hair wish indicates his varisian heritage. But now that he is setting out for adventure he has again suited up his finely made breastplate which so prominently displays the symbol of Desna on his chest.
[/Appearance]
[Personality]
Marlon is a simple man and a happy man. He does not need much in life. He has his three lovable children and his good natured wife, a home and important responsibilities in the church. Due to his diligence and loyalty he is a very valued member of Desna’s small clergy in Korvosa which serves as a landing station for all the traveling priests throughout Varisia.
But now that he is nearing his fortieth name day things are changing. For better or for worse he cannot say yet. But he knows he is excited, as excited as he has been for many years. And the curiosity and wanderlust that once drove him to travel all across the country seems to not have completely died down just yet.

Teller - have you got a date in mind for a deadline for submissions?

Let see what the dice give me, thinking of a "brute" rogue/cleric gish, aiming for the Divine Assessor or Dissident of Dawn PrC if that is okay with you

3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 6) + 1 = 14
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) + 1 = 11
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 1, 1) + 1 = 8
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) + 1 = 10
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5, 2) + 1 = 13
3d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 5, 4) + 1 = 14

25 point buy it is :)

There's already quite a number of applications, so let's say tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12 pm GMT-5 (midnight, so in about 20 hours).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here is Inventor Skivven for your viewing pleasure, I'll get the background up as soon as I can!

Ok, from now its closed for new applications.
Since I suddenly don't have the time to go through everyone in detail right now, I'll announce my choice tomorrow.

Just couldn't finish my fluff and crunch in time to my satisfaction. Have fun everyone.
