I seem to recall hearing that the Iconics for the Advanced class guide have already been decided on. Assuming it will be close to a 50/50 split for Gender how is it split between races?

Also not sure if you can answer this but are these new Iconics or reworkings of the current Iconics? (Since I'm not clear if these new classes are actually new classes or more an advanced form of multiclassing.

So Jason, I have a rather odd question and I thought you might be able to help me out because you mentioned that you were an architect before being hired by Paizo.

My GM is running his in the jungle. It heavily uses the Downtime and Kingdom Building rules, and now our new colony is fast approaching its first year of existence. Both my character and his cohort have a good number of ranks in Knowledge (engineering) and because my PC is both the kingdom's ruler and a kitsune with a heavy appreciation for artistic qualities and style, I've been trying to figure out what kinds of building aesthetics he would set for the colony's structures.

So, without further adieu, here are some weird architecture and engineering questions for you!

#1 — My first question is about keeping the building cool. Because heat rises, my current plan was to have tall ceilings with fine netting lining the edges that possessed window-like slits at the top. Not only would this give a natural source of lightning during the day, but my thinking is that it would help cool the building because the heat would rise up and be able to escape out of the slits. In addition, because we have the manpower I was thinking about building down rather than up. Having bedrooms and the like in the "basement" would be cooler than on ground level, correct?

#2 — Several different areas of Ultimate Campaign reference in-door pluming (Sewer Access and Sewer Kingdom Improvement) and I was trying to figure out how to make that happen in my settlement. My current thoughts are to run an aqueduct from a lake we found in some nearby mountains down to the settlement. Would that work, or is there a better way to pull off in-door pluming? As an aside, I might do an aqueduct anyway because I feel like only the most prosperous civilizations of the olden eras would have been able to pull them off. They're one of those things that just screams, "Cool," especially a jungle aqueduct.

#3 Is there any efficient way to keep stone housing cool? Because we live in the jungle, insulation is the absolute bottom of our construction priorities, after all.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Optional PC races from the Bestiary, such as Aasimar, Hobgoblins, Orcs, Tengu and Tieflings are part of the setting-independent core rules, and not the setting specific stuff (like Suli or Gillmen or Androids).

Would it be possible for one or more of the new 10 'Iconics' in the Advanced Class Guide to be from one of these Golarion-independent Bestiary races?

'Cause Wayne Reynolds hobgoblin or orc or tiefling art could be way, way cool...

you might be able to hang out with pseudo-daenerys, though.

Question for Jason:

What does your workspace look like? I mean, how big is your desk? Presumably you use a computer, laptop? Desktop? Whats on the wall, what else is on your desk? Do you keep paper and pencil on hand? What books/tablets/other tools and resources do you keep on hand developing for pathfinder?

Also, what kind of nicknacks do you have about? Any action figures? 6ft tall dragon bigatures? Do you have music playing? Movies?

Hey Jason.

Just wanted to say thanks for the upcoming ACG.
But, could you reconsider some of hybrid classes names, just asking?

After all the votes for swashbuckler, and finding out that it is the sixth ACG class revealed, I have to ask: what does Mr. Jacobs think of the class as designed, considering his long-held desire to see such a class in the official rules? It seems natural that his opinion be asked - was it? Or did you already know his preference and surprise him?

You could, ah, ask James that too.

Jason, cookies, or biscuits?

Did you know whiskey is always a solution?

Yeah, but I'm about 11000 posts behind on his thread and it will be November before I can read his answer. Because I'm obsessive like that.

1. That seems like a good plan. Most buildings in hot climates have holes in the roof in one way or the other to let the heat out. Anything below surface level will be cooler, but air movement is a big part of that too. In a tropical environment, that will be paramount in fact, to avoid the buildup of moisture, mold, and bugs.

2. Aqueducts are probably the best way that you can accomplish indoor plumbing, but with the addition of magic, there are a lot of ways you could pull this off. Items that create water would certainly do the trick. But if you are looking to go low magic, you either have to go with an aqueduct, or wells that pump up to some sort of water tower so that you have the pressure necessary to do plumbing.

3. When it comes to cooling structures naturally, mass is your friend. Thick stone walls are usually a good thing when it comes to keeping the interior cool.

Both my work and home spaces are quite similar.

Desk, desktop, surrounded by books, toys, and reference material. Surrounded by art, weapons, and other inspiration. Music plays on occasion, but rarely anything with lyrics. I find it interferes with my work.

Yeah, Conventions, a twisted ankle, and a lot of catching up to do has kept me away.

As for drinks... yes, for everyone. Unless they get near me, then they shall be consumed.

I apologize in advance if this is too much of a rule question but in Castles of the Inner Sea how would you break down the crafting and costs of Cvotgar Haas' clockwork augmentations?

Also what is your favorite type of castle or fortress?

To piggy back on Rysky...

Do you enjoy crafting in your games? I personally like it.

Do you want or think we could use an update to the crafting rules?

Liberty's Edge

This is a generic design question, not rukes or ACG specific.

Did you like the Marshal and Dragon Shaman? Is their aura system something you like and could see in a Pathfinder base or prestige class one day?

Dark Archive

Jason, why was there no mythic version of planar binding/planar ally?

Not sure on the Castles of the Inner Sea question, I did not work on that book.

As for my favorite style of castle, I will go with Norman, although I enjoy most of the early european styles. When I picture a castle, that tends to be what pops into my head.

I dont use the crafting rules overmuch in my games, as they are generally about heroes and not craftspeople.

That said.. I do have some ideas about making the system better.

No particular reason, other than the spells are already very complicated.

Ooo! Do you feel satisfied with Mythic for now...or are there more ideas you have and want to publish? Like an Advanced Players Mythic or some such?

Heroes (and villains) crafting their own legendary weapons?

What would you say your opinions of Josepth Campbell's Monomyth, or Hero's Journey, are? I think I recall someone on these boards mentioning that it was involved in the writing of Wrath of the Righteous, and I think I can see the patterns it describes in Rise of the Runelords. The attack on Sandpoint's the Call to Adventure, Skinsaw Murders are the "Refusal of the Call" in the sense that the PCs are now thoroughly involved in fighting Karzoug's minions, Ascension in Sins of the Saviors where their spiritual strengths and shortcomings influence the weapons they gain to defeat Karzoug, etc.

I think it's pretty cool!

I like it as a construct.. it feels familiar. It is also one of those things that once you see it, you cant un-see it and notice it every time it occurs.

Just like this!

Jason from a design philosphy, what is Paizo's take on non-combat focused classes? basically non-martial, non-casters?

Jason, where would want to live in Golarion and why? What would you do, adventure, commoner, or other?

Basically, if you were to make yourself as a character (fantasized of course, not exactly you in real life) what would it be. The Jason Bulmahn AP, if you will.

Mix between Bard and Inquisitor (Bard with divine power/spells, etc)?

With the Leadership feat and monster cohorts from the bestiaries, the cohort level for such monsters are usually grossly above the monsters' individual CRs. I was wondering what exactly the idea was behind that design decision.

Is it simply to give the option but discourage taking it because monsters should stay exotic, or is it an actual power level balance issue?

(I can see how a part of the CR of an NPC with class levels comes from gear, while with a monster all the CR comes from the monster itself, so the gear that an NPC would need is calculated into that CR)

I hope this doesn't count as a rules question. Since inquisitors go after cultists so much, why isn't Knowledge (local) a class skill for them?

Dark Archive

Jason if you saw a 3pp book that was effectively a giant book of new classes for pathfinder, what would you think?

I'm not Jason, but I would think "Does this add anything that is actually need? How many of these could have been archetypes instead of full classes?"

;)

We try to ensure that every class has a role to play in combat, in one form or another. From buffing other characters, to swinging a weapon, to casting a spell. Combat is an important part of the game and we try to ensure that everyone can participate.

Ha... um, I would probably live somewhere in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. Its got my kinda people and my kinda climate. As for what I would do... I'd probably want to be a raider... that sounds like a fun life (and I really enjoyed the show Vikings... )
