The panorama artwork in Dungeoneer's Handbook deserves its own thread

For those that enjoy pleasant surprises and are picking up Dungeoneer's Handbook, you probably don't want to read this thread.

Otherwise:

Dungeoneer's Handbook features a strip of artwork spanning six pages featuring tiny portrayals of twelve of the iconics in a dungeon doing dungeon stuff. I couldn't find the art credits, but it looks like Wayne Reynolds' work.

It is very fun, and the concept opens up a lot of possibilities if this approach is ever taken again. There's a bit of a comicbook dynamic going on. Even though it's all one "panel", it tells a bit of a story, with the beginning of the piece having someone doing some very tentative "first steps inside" stuff and ending with the dungeon climax, further resolutions, and rewards. Each of the iconics portrayed gets a little scene of their own, some getting to shine and some getting into trouble, and some kicking trouble in the face.

If you have a 1028 X 18504 monitor, this would make for the perfect wallpaper. Whoever came up with the idea for that piece needs a pat on the back. :)

Check it out when you get a chance!

Nah, it's Ben Wootten. Yeah, I agree it's a fantastic feature of the book. I enjoyed the concept of panorama artwork in Varisia, Birthplace of Legends and Knights of the Inner Sea as well and I'm hoping the pieces from this book will be available online somewhere. It really is a marvelous illustration of a typical dungeon adventure.

This thread is the equivalent of asking "tell me how this tastes" and posting a picture of a delicious sangwich.

Dungeonscape, by some guy named Jason Bulmahn, had the same theme going on. If you looked at the art, it told the story of the party going through a dungeon. Except in that book, everyone but the Rogue eventually died.

Also, nice touch putting the LG paladin and the LE Magus on the same page.

Credit where credit's due then! Awesome work, Ben Wooten! If you ever sell this as a print, I'm buying!

(I have no idea about the logistics of making single-piece printings of this thing)

And yeah, loving these panoramas all around. :)

Feeling particularly sympathetic towards Amiri's part after our last game, and also appreciative of that barbarian DR that's helping her out htere.

There's going to be at least one part for everyone to go "Yeah, I've been there."

I think it's more like saying, "tell me how this tastes" and then not posting the picture at all.

Just saw this last night, and WOW! I love it! Kind of reminds me of some Erol Otus' pieces, like on the MM.

I was happy to see Valeros standing triumphant and not being the mook for once.

The spread on page 10 & 11 makes me say, "Huh. Those skeletons are going to have a bad day, because paladin."

Silver Crusade

And it's "Helmet On" Seelah, so she's not fooling around either! (plus it looks like Seltyiel is going to need her to bail him out)

YES. He also gets the most prominent facial expression with that big ol' happy grin.

Someone somewhere has to use this to line the walls of their game room. Srsly.

Grand Lodge

Yup.
This artwork really grabbed my attention.
Beautiful.

What are the hopes of a wallpaper of the panorama?

The old Hackmaster 4th Edition Hacklopedia of Beasts did something similar. The covert art across the volumes showed an adventuring party being picked off one at a time, until all that was left was a single torch-bearer.

And then came an Appendix volume where the adventuring party rose as undead and got the torch-bearer.

Good times.

Ha! Glad people are digging these. It was a kind of crazy scheme but I'm really glad with how they turned out.

As for Seelah and Seltyiel, ever since those two were teamed up in Council of Thieves, I've always liked to think that they've got a really good working relationship. They disagree on everything and the one is always trying to convert/tempt the other, but they're badass together. :)

Not yet, but you never know! ;)

Also, be on the lookout for a few easter eggs in those scenes... and a few secret passages leading elsewhere. ;)

Pretty much the first thing I did when I got the PDF was to copy-and-paste the six individual images to create a 1920x1200 desktop wallpaper made up of the three double-page spreads. You need to overlap the images in pairs by five pixels (before re-sizing), and the edges of the three two-page spreads wouldn't quite meet, but that's not obvious.

Odd couple roadmovie with these two, now! ;)

Dark Archive

My only disapointment was Lini wasent in it (but then she did get a cover to herself last companion.)

We thought they were pretty awesome too!

Okay, this series of images just proves that we need a side scroller like Symphony of the Night for Pathfinder/Golarion.

And for those wanting to see the thing in its full glory, Ben Wootten's put it up on his deviantart page.

Oh wow.

There's no desktop wide enough.

My friend disagrees. I will try to dig up their massive Screen they made.

Bastardhall: Orchestra of Groetus

I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

In other news, I JUST noticed that Valeros is not only standing victorious, he's poured himself a freaking drink right there next to the dragon corpse. Before retrieving his sword even.

Actually I think he is getting ready to take a swig while standing atop the dragon...

I think my favourite bit is Merisiel's reaction to the treasure horde. Wheeeeeeee! :-D

A toast to a valiant fallen foe! (And a celebration of the fact that he's made it through another combat). Seems legit to me ...

Maybe not a desktop, but the folks up at Boeing have a multi-display system in their customer demonstration area they use for several purposes.

It usually runs at 3xHD (5760x3240), but could easily be configured to be 7680 pixels wide.

I'm not sure if they were using that or just a normal HD system to drive the big display visible in the background for the initial 787 roll-out. That was showing a map of the world, with some combination of aircraft routes and scheduled positions overlaid on it (updated in real time rather like the displays typically found in aircraft seats).

Mine would be Seltyiel getting pulled back.

Castle Kronquist 3: Tiriac's Curse :)

Y'know...Inner Sea Bestiary did introduce a pretty effective analogue for Legion...

@Mikaze: What is it called?

@hogarth: You can say that again...

Charnel Colossus!

The Corpse Orgy from Tome of Horrors has some neat things to add to the mix too, and has even seen use in at least one Pathfinder AP. Charnel Colossus is closer to Legion's size and scope though.

Wow... Can't believe I missed that. The only problem is (IIRC) Legion is more of a Fiend than Undead...

Silver Crusade

Yeah, that and a number of other creatures require a bit of tweaking.

I tend to lean towards undead/fiendish shell, creamy aberrant/fiendish center. >:)

Giggity?

I'm not gonna judge.

Just think of the descriptions that come from that line...

I prefer to plant the seeds and let other folks think of 'em and be unable to unsee them. ;)

Why's no-one mentioned the goblins, yet?
