Weirdest moment for me during this contest

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Champion Voter Season 8, Marathon Voter Season 9 aka GM_Solspiral

When I found out about RPG Superstar this year, I was excited and had a great idea for an item off the back. After some second guessing and allot of consideration I dropped the idea in favor of another item that was playtested by my group and something of a fan favorite.

Fast forward to voting rounds and I see not one but 2 versions of my idea with slightly different executions. One is definately superstar quality the other was rife with formatting errors and less elegantly designed. I would have been exactly in the middle of the 2.

Reading Clarks post I strongly suspect I know the "fire" based submission he liked and it lead to a weird thought. I had a top 32 idea, but my version lacked the execution that made it shine. I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere.

6.5 hrs to know if my other safer idea was the right move, somehow I think I just answered my own question.

Star Voter Season 6

For me, the weird part will be if I even register within the top 100 items.

After submitting my item and seeing the competition I became quite sure my item was terrible.

Don't forget, what you consider "safe" others might not have thought of, and may even think as exciting.

You were confident enough to enter it, so you have already won - you have defeated that big CR monster called self doubt.

Enjoy the competition to the full whatever happens, if you don't make the top 32, you can still review, vote, cheer on your favorites and learn from their public feedback and missteps as you follow along.

That's one of the beauties of this contest.

Joining in...

My strangest moment; after having my item ready a month prior to the contest, I started reading through the old contests and stumbled across an item that was way too similar - to add insult to injury, it got great reviews. So I dumped my original idea for a new one and then started working on my archetype (being an optimist).

Two days ago I spotted my archetype in a supplement! The name was different, of course, but the flavor and even some of the abilities were nearly identical. I take comfort in the thought that my ideas were good enough for other authors, but sheesh!

I saw at least two items this year that were very much like a concept I wrote up for last year, and then discarded at the last minute in favor something else. While my item didn't make the cut last year (one weak keep from a judge, if I recall correctly) I was reassured about my decision, because neither similar item really wowed me.
