Now is a good time to get some sleep and spend time with the girlfriend, friends and family, I guess. :P
Neil Spicer always talks about how you need to plan your schedule to meet the deadlines of RPG Superstar... in my case, I had to cut a LOT of sleeping time (combined with the works of a building being erected right outside my bedroom's window, which starts really early, that's an average of 5 hours of sleep each night).
Bottom line is, I'm really tired right now and kind of glad I don't have to obsess about my submission anymore. :)

Yikes! Just got that under the wire and I noticed a small mistake right as I pushed the button. My son graduated from Space Camp today and I went to attend that, not leaving as much time as I hoped to make the final edits. I had forgotten that was coming up.
Obviously, I should have planned better. I can see they are trying to select people that can work well under time pressure and meet deadlines. Well, good luck everyone.

Happy birthday, Clark.
Since we're a few days away from seeing the round 4 entries, I thought I'd share what I was working on for that round.
I was going to use the iceroot devourer as the monster.
Here's a link to a rough draft. It's in need of a lot of rewriting and polishing, but you can get the general idea of what I was going for.

Very neat setting :) I really like the visual of the frozen garden. The monsters have low enough HP that an 8d6 fireball could be a significant problem at that CR but the Lady of Rime is a great idea, and I'm intrigued to find out what's on the other side of that portal.

Thank you. That CR was just a quick calculation by the total XP value of the encounter, with it falling between CR 7 and 8. If the GM wants it to be more challenging, then the party should be somewhere around 5 or 6, since its supposed to be the boss fight for that area. The trap and iceroot devourer's silence ability might also make the fireball use a bit more difficult.
Edit: I forgot the trap, with it it's exactly on the CR 8 budget.

I was going to use the iceroot devourer as the monster.
That was my selection as well and the frost wight. get out of my head
Just a small comment on the trap, it is a little messy. You have multiple conditions and effects, my suggestion would be to list multiple effects.

Heh, great minds and so forth.
Yeah, that was just the first gathering of ideas on the trap, I would have done a bunch of rewriting on it to make it more clear etc.

Here's the CR-and-Round-3-monster breakdown of the entries:
CR 05, caliban
CR 07, blackwood drake
CR 08, egelsee cocktail
CR 08, egelsee cocktail
CR 08, thoughtstealer ooze
CR 09, leechroot
CR 10, argopelter
CR 11, egelsee cocktail
The above summary doesn't list any other monsters used.
I need to put some documentation together for the R5 twist, which I hope to have a chance to post about this evening.

Meh, I'll summarize it right now:
In past years, we've run into a problem where at least one R5 entry is similar to something Paizo has recently published or will be publishing close to the date when the RPG Superstar module would be published. This is a concern, not because of any fears of plagiarism, but because we don't want two products with the same theme to come out within a few months of each other. For example, Tom Phillips's proposal The Scarlet God featured a monastery overtaken by giants led by a crazed spellcaster and a trip to the plane of Leng... as does one of the adventures in the Shattered Star AP. If Tom had won RPG Superstar last year, his adventure would have to be heavily revised so it didn't parallel the AP--and that would have been lame for Tom, because I'm sure he was excited about his adventure proposal, and it would have been lame for the people who voted for Tom, because they really wanted to see that adventure (instead of whatever it would have to be changed to).
This year, we're adding a step for the competitors where they have to submit a "pitch document"--a very short summary of what they'd like to do for their adventure proposal. James Jacobs will read these pitches and determine if anything about the pitch needs to be changed so as to avoid conflict with future products or any other issues. For example, James might say "don't use giants or Leng," or "don't go to the Plane of Fire," or even "goblins in Golarion wouldn't do that."
Based on James's comments, the competitors can proceed with writing their full proposal for Round 5.
I don't have deadlines set for when these pitch documents will go out, or the deadline for the competitors to turn them in, or James's deadline to give responses, but the competitors will definitely get James's comments before we announce the Top 4 on March 12 (because the Top 4 should have all the info they need when the R5 design period officially starts on March 12).

So would the pitch document be visible to the public? I'm guessing no. We'd get feedback without spoiling any concepts ahead of time to anyone outside the competition (we need to learn to keep mum about projects anyway).
But we'd get spoilers in a roundabout way, right?
The pitch doc won't be public.
Yes, roundabout spoilers. :)

Got my Snows of Summer PDF printed out today... Haven't gotten too deep yet, but so far, it's Spicerific and Irrisensational!
I've got Steven, Nicholas, Sam and Landon slated to play. I think we'll keep it at that so far. But I'd love to try PbP first with one of the R4 entries - and I'd really appreciate if somebody else GM'd, so I can get the feel for PbP playing. Any takers?
I'm assuming Sam and Landon want in; I'm also assuming Steven and Nicholas, as active participants, won't be taking part in publicly-posted contest-related games (unless the PbP is locked somehow? I have not looked into this yet).

Jacob W. Michaels RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Dedicated Voter Season 9 aka motteditor |

Let me take a look at them tonight. Assuming they don't look *too* complicated, adding one more PBP for a week shouldn't kill me (assuming you all don't mind if being an "oldtimer" and not a current year contestant). I had a lot of fun doing that last year and actually am now regularly playing with three or four of my gamers from one of my test runs.
Why not start at 8th level, since that seems like it'll cover most of these? 20-point buy; full HP at first, then average afterward; and WBL. I'd say if people want to allow the Round 2 archetypes, that's fine with me. Ziv can be in and I guess I'll take first-come, first-served after that. I'll set up a proper PBP thread after taking a look at the encounters tonight.

Also, the shrine is correctly spelled as "Ssel Asha" everywhere except the link. Some voters might consider mis-spelling your entry a big whiff, so making sure it's known we spelled it correctly and fixing the link would be great.
And, you know, someone could always fix the spelling of "Tulsa" while they're at it.
But hey, we don't want any wrath from the Postmonster, so if it be done, it be done. :b

If anyone besides Ziv is interested, I am willing to play-test one or two of the encounters. If three more people give me a holler, I'll set up a thread. (Though I like Curaigh's idea elsewhere of using PFS pre-gens to save ourselves some time, if you want to do that. Could also pull them from the NPC Codex.)

Didn't work :P - I'm reworking my notes after some guidance and Map Fu'ing the maps - 5 down, 3 to go :D
On a serious side, it's most likely because we are all playtesting like billy-oh.
