Alchemist Prestige Class options

Advice

Hi all,

I've started playing an Alchemist and I'm enjoying it so far. I was wondering, with the exception of Master Chymist, what Prestige Class options are available to me?

My alignment is Chaotic Neutral.

Thanks in advance!

For the alchemist specifically? Only the master chymist. Unless there's something from a 3rd party book I am not aware of.

If you mean just any prestige classes, then any you would qualify for. From pathfinder books alone there must be over 3 dozen prestige classes out there. Though I doubt any of them would progress your alchemist abilities.

There's also the Daggermark Poisoner aka the Guild Poisoner.

Check it out here.

What about the Alchemist appeals to you? I ask because you might not want or need to take a Prestige Class at all.

Which Prestige Classes are available to you depends on whether your GM rules that being able to use a Nth level extract fulfills the requirement of being able to cast a Nth level spell, and also whether you want to dip another class to get into the Prestige Class.

There is always Wizard/Alchemist(Vivisectionist)/Arcane Trickster

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll look into your suggestions. :)

Well, since they have good INT score, I'd say that either duelist or assassin would be good for melee focuses alchemists. Duelist would let you put 1 points of your INT modifier to AC per class level, and the death strike you gain from assassin has an INT based save DC.

Can't be an assassin, they have to be evil and he is CN. You could take a dip in Fighter and go into Eldrich Knight. Buff yourself then use a mutagen?

Can't be an Eldritch Knight either, they require you to be able to cast 3rd lv arcane spells. And extracts are neither arcane, nor are they spells.

Note that some GMs are kind enough to say that extracts are close enough to spells to count.

Vivisectionist basically opens up a bunch of rogue type PrCs based around sneak attack. All would be a horrible choice compared to advancing mutagens, discoveries, and extracts. But they are options. Just really bad options.

Wiz 3 /Mindchemist Viv. Alchemist 3 / AT 10 is probably the strongest AT build (that or drop 2 Alchemist levels and add a level of wizard and assassin to save 1 more wizard CL), and is sort of valid as a "good" PrC option.

Yeah, besides Master Chymist, there's really no PrC that improves your alchemist-iness.

Evoker/Mindchemist Vivisectionist/Arcane Trickster sounded like so much fun that I built one for fun, but I doubt I'll ever get to play him. He's also hard to really call an alchemist, because the mutagen is really the only part of the base alchemist he retains.

I found that as a vivisectionist there weren't a lot of discoveries (or higher level extracts) that I wanted, so I started in as a noble scion after level 7. Probably not an optimized choice as far as the PC is concerned, but it's been a lot of fun to RP and getting Improved Leadership definitely supported the hybrid healer/sneak attacker/dex tank role I'd been playing in the party, since the cohort can take one of those roles and let me focus on others.

Mummification, Greater and Grand Mutagen, Eternal Potion... all are good high level discoveries for a Viv. Alchemist. In any case, there's so many good lower level ones, you likely are still playing catch-up with those discovery slots when you reach high level anyway, unless you burned a bunch of feats on Extra Discovery.
