I have some trust-earning to do. It starts with open, prompt dialog, and this forum is going to be part of that. In addition to being visible and responding to folks here, I have set up a Google Group mailing list for anyone who wants to opt-in to weekly updates: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/warlords-of-the-apocalyp se
Owen,
I'd like to disagree a little on this. This project specifically might have some bridges to unburn, I don't know I haven't been following it, but I doubt SGG or you personally have much trust to earn. SGG is one of a handful of publishers that is on my "just buy it" list, even if I'm not that interested in the content, and I've yet to be disappointed in any of those purchases. So, just keep the communications open and honest, as you generally do, and I'm sure you'll earn the trust.
Oh, and WANT!

Are you guys going to make use of your Anachronistic Adventures type products to help fuel this one?
That hasn't been decided for certain, but that is the direction I'm leaning. That said, the classes would be revised and updates, the archetype mechanism is likely to be renamed, and the whole thing adjusted to be fitting to a post apocalypse game setting.

Okay, fair enough and that's nice to hear. :D
But yes, the Warlords of the Apocalypse game (which sadly has nothing to do with warlords of the Accordlands btw, for those of you asking) has a troubled past. There are people who have had pre-orders for more than two years, and official information has often been scant, contradictory, and unhelpful.
So for fans of SGG, I can see that this is just exciting news of a big thing we are doing. But I wanted people who aren't already fans of SGG, people who have been watching the WotA project appear to go up in smoke (or fade like vapor, depending on your preferred analogy) to know that I understand and accept any and all skepticism. This project has some bad feeling attached to it by a lot of folks, and those are perfectly understandable.
So I want to go a mile farther than normal, let folks talk to the man behind the curtain, and be as open and up front as possible. I have a lot of faith that this is going to rock, but it's also going to be a lot of work.
I'm excited about this, because I am at heart a post-apocalyptic gaming goob. (Someday if you catch me at a convention, but me a drink and ask me about the Gamma World game I played with a 4-armed albino gorilla with an exoskeleton, a telepathic & telekenetic flying blue whale, and a pure strain human with a single bullet. It was epic.) But I'm also realistic. I have a long way to go before this is done, and I want to establish reasonable and honest expectations.
That said so far the overall response has been awesome, and you all can't possibly know how much I appreciate that.

Hey Owen, just putting out that if you need any consultation on psionics for WotA, you've got my contact info. :) I can't guarantee anything, since I'm still pretty much buried in Ultimate Psionics, but feel free to drop a line if you think I'd be of help.
I absolutely will!
An d folk, if any of you ever wonder why i talk about how great it is to work with Pathfinder 3pp... this is a good example. :D

So...
Post Apocalyptic.
Plus Pathfinder.
Plus Super Genius Games.
If this has rules for making it a zombie apocalypse rather than a nuclear one I belief I shall have to start using 'Shut up and take my money' gifs.
My hope is that we'll have a good, solid set of Post-Apocalypse rules, and then some examples of how to use those for lots of different settings, including (I hope) zombies.

If Warlords of the Apocalypse allows us to play mutants as crazy as a 4-armed albino gorilla with an exoskeleton or a telepathic & telekenetic flying blue whale you will have my undying gratitude :)

I am already looking at what it would take to have those as options. Mind you, those would be get-GM-approval options most likely, but the rules to handle them shouldn't be too tough.

if a kickstarter is started, will the buyers get a copy of the book after donating a certain amount? i didnt get to preorder but i really wanted to and now that this book will actually see the light of day and with the excellent quality of SGG, im ready to throw money at you now and would really like to get on board for getting this book.

We're a fair bit from knowing the details of any Kickstarter yet. That said, I strongly suspect we'll have one level of support that gets you a PDF of the final book, and a higher level of support that gets you a physical copy of the book 9for which you will need to add shipping).
People with pre-orders are going to get a physical book regardless of whether we do a Kickstarter, or whether they participate in one if we do.

Hi Owen- Will you be including any post-apocalyptic technology? Bizarre, often unreliable technology was one of my favorite parts of my old 1E Gamma World gaming sessions. Anyone remember the black ray gun, Mark V blaster, vibro blade, and powered assault armor? Ahhh...good times! I'd really like to see your take on this aspect of post-apocalyptic game settings.

I certainly hope to! While design decisions like that are still being made, I hope to both have some reasonable higher-progress-level gear (and rules for making more) and some "wonders of the ancients," with notes on how to gauge them as treasure.
Now we'll have to see if time, space, design development, and my hopes all line up, but that is what I'd *like* to do.

Owen, if there is a kickstarter for this, do you have any idea what the timing of it will be? The Razor Coast kickstarter (as you are likely aware) begins on Christmas Day. I will have a limited amount of post-holiday swag to invest in something, and with the announcement of a possible kickstarter for this project (which has me drooling), I now picture myself having nightmares where I begin mumbling "pirates or mutants, pirates or mutants, pirates or mutants..."
I guess this is what happens when you have an embarrassment of riches. :D

Really looking forward to the book, Owen. Thanks to SGG for picking this up. I had a few questions if that's okay...
• Are there plans for support beyond a core book?
• Will this be more sci-fi than fantasy or a blend?
• How close will this be to some of the info found in d20 Apocalypse?
Thanks again!

Owen, if there is a kickstarter for this, do you have any idea what the timing of it will be?
Largely the answer to that is "no." Because I felt I owed the pre-order customers a notice that they were now my customers as soon as the ink on the contract was dry, and I knew that would inevitably lead to news getting out about the acquisition, I made the announcement about this project even though I have not yet had a chance to form a firm plan and schedule for when things are going to happen.
However, by the very virtue of knowing I do not yet know, I can pretty safely say the Razor Coast Kickstarter (which I am very excited by) and any potential Warlords of the Apocalypse Kickstarter are not going to overlap. We'd warn people when we were moving up to a start date for WotA having a Kickstarter, and I just don't foresee that happening before March. I *could* be wrong (I'm guessing right now, not making announcements), but certainly we don't have a Kickstarter "about to launch," and these things take time to set up.
So no, I don't think you'll need to decide between mutants and pirates. :D

Absolutely. I welcome all questions, though I warn you now sometimes the answers will be "I can't say" or "I don't know yet."
• Are there plans for support beyond a core book?
There are not "plans." There are "hopes." I'd love to have enough success with WotA that we could do regular support for it, from adventures to additioinal settings to player books to bestiaries, and maybe even a fiction line. But I don't know for sure what form the final book is going to take just yet, and obviously I have no idea how popular it will be, which makes it impossible for me to be definitive on support products.
I very, very much want to do an ongoing line of support. I intend to base my plans on the assumption that will happen. I may not be able to justify it.
• Will this be more sci-fi than fantasy or a blend?
Since I plan for it to be 100% Pathfinder compatible, and indeed I have no intention of duplicating the core parts of the pathfinder rulebook that won't change (ability scores, character creation, most of the skills, feats, and combat chapter), most of the fantasy elements are covered already. I'll add some support for the cyborgs-and-sorcery style post-apocalyptic campaign, but most of the new content will be focused on the elements of post-apocalypse that aren't covered by pathfinder already (modern classes, mutations, laser guns, powered armor, psychic powers, cyborgs, androids, black ray guns... stuff like that).
• How close will this be to some of the info found in d20 Apocalypse?
I'll be using d20 Apocalypse as a starting point for much of the WotA expanded design. The existing WotA files already draw on it pretty heavily, and after all as one of the authors of d20 Apocalypse I think it's a well-done book. But that's just a starting point, and both the rules and style of Pathfinder is different from the rules and style of d20 modern, necessitating a total rethink and strong development pass of anything taken from the older srd.
Thanks again!
You are very welcome!

I preordered but it's been so long I can't remember if I cancelled it.
If so, can I reorder my cancelled preorder? :-)
I suspect you are far from the only one in that situation. In theory, everyone with a preorder has received an email from me -- but I've already run into a couple of cases where that didn't happen (in one I typed the email address wrong when sending the message, in the other the email changed from two years ago).
If you want me to check our records for you, drop me a line with your name and the email you used two years ago to owen@supergeniusgames.com, and I'll check for you.
We are not taking new preorders at this time. (We'll let everyone know when there's a way for new people to get in on our WotA book -- a Kickstarter seems most likely.) If you cancelled your preorder and now wish you hadn't, drop me a line. I'm not sure what we'll do about it, but I'll at least know who all is interested.

I've been wanting a post apocalyptic setting for a while now. I just hope you're not too constrained by taking this project on rather than starting your own project.
One of the reasons I took this on was that the early work looked to be a good match for what I had in mind.
One of the reasons I don't have any etas yet is that I plan to change anything that needs it in order to make the game book I want to create.
I see this as a boost, rather than a constraint, though I may have made myself as much work as I saved myself.

From some of the description so far it sound like a bit of a post-apoc tool kit for Pathfinder. Is that where things are headed or will there be a setting in the book as well? I really like some place to start with games and the lack of setting was the only issue I had with Atomic Highway.
That's an entirely reasonable question.
I don't know yet. What I *want* to have is a toolkit of rules, an assumed setting, a fleshing-out of that assumed setting, sketches of alternate settings (with notes on what rules they would and wouldn't use), and a short introductory adventure.
I don't yet know that I'll have room for all of that, or time to develop it all, or budget for art and maps to support it, or what form they'll take if I do.
I will have a better idea about these things before any Kickstarter or other option for people to give us money opens. Until then, all feedback (such as your comments above) are very welcome.

If you haven't seen Scrying Eye Games' "Welcome to Mortiston", you may want to take a gander.
It chronicles a single town in great detail from several days prior to the apocalypse out through 90 days following.
It is one of the only books of its kind that I've seen, especially since its "game system agnostic"; all NPCs have stats in multiple systems.
The maps are beautiful, to boot!

Take a look at Desolation, using the HEX engine, it give all the world details before it's cataclysm happened and pretty much leaves it up to the GM to decide how things spiral after the initial period after. Even the world map is pre-cataclysm so that the GM can decide how it has changed. One aspect I love about that book is it has salvage tables for every creature in the game so you can figure out after something is killed if it has a use. Little twisted, but pretty cool idea.
